They do it because its harder to get equal sound from 2 kicks, so this way its faster but they keep the image of 2 kick drums.

I prefer drummset with one bass drum and double kick pedal. 100% but one channel sound for kicking drum.

There might be some triggering but this one is recorded with a recorder close to the kit at the stage so at least on this video you hear the actual acoustic sound of the drums
