      Most animals need a buddy or sibling--it's conceit to think you can be their everything. I had a dog that really seemed to prefer adult humans...that is, until I insisted we find him a brother. I saw the separation anxiety, and we could not take him everywhere we went. He ignored the other dog for several weeks, but he never tried to hurt it, where he had been mean to a few friends' dogs. Then one evening we got home from a day of errands, and those dogs began chasing each other around the house. They'd reverse every so often and the chase would become the chaser. They did this for hours, not wanting their dinner until late. After that, they were the best of friends. No one wants to be alone always and forever. Just let them pick their buddy. It happened with another dog, years later...he played with the new puppy for SEVEN HOURS! Stopped only for water, to go outside.

      My bird has us as friends when we are out of sight he calls us when we go down town we tell him we’re we are going and say we will be back and he’s happy we get a lovely greeting when we get home. @@nolajeanspiers4668 A human isn't a good replacement for another bird though. You leave to do human things (Work? Seeing friends? Getting food?), and you don't provide the understanding and kind of support another bird could provide.
      Having a good human friend helps, but it is important to have another bird or two around. Think - if your bird gets stressed when you're just out of sight, imagine if he had another bird there so he has someone to support him.

    I love when pets are actually properly trained and house free-range like this ❤
    A LOT of "cage" ones can actually be trained to chill in the whole house, as most pets are pack / group species.
    Once they establish home is their nest and you pet-proof what you need, you just chill with them. They'll potty where you train them too, and are happy to be and explore with you.

    • @lumini3172
      @lumini3172 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I wish nothing more than to allow my conures to roam the house freely but unfortunately I have quite a few safety concerns. The main ones being cats, large dogs, and fish tanks. And also family members who lack self control and think that shoving their hands in the birds’ faces will help “tame them”. So I do what I can for them when I let them out in my room-usually twice a day, 2-3 hours each time.

    • @xXJade_AssassinXx
      @xXJade_AssassinXx ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lumini3172 For sure - a home is a habitat for humans not animals really, so it is a bit of work to animal and lol family-proof it - well at least the animal's space. We can never give them full range like in nature (rats can live in mile long networks lol,) but its usually just more space than a cage / small room thats enough.
      Quite sweetly, they're happy to just be near you. My rats never went more than 10-15ft from me ❤️ humans are like the parent / leader so once they get an idea of boundaries (no chewing the house or using their cage to waste,) they just, hang out lol.

      Barbnbirds....I had a chihuahua puppy I'd turn loose in a huge soccer field. I told my older lady friend about the zoomies outside. She said aren't you afraid a hawk will get her? I said no,thinking she was nuts. Well I was at my apartment a few weeks later and had her out by the front door. And an enormous bird, waaay bigger than a hawk dropped down with a noise 6 feet away. It saw me and flew away as soon as it hit the ground. I called my friend and apologized for thinking she was nuts. I put my puppy permanently on a leash when I took her outdoors after that.. never knew this could happen. Scarred me for life.

      My friend had a little Quaker parrot that flew out of her window.She actually saw a hawk grab it in mid air and fly away with it.She had a nervous breakdown afterwards.

      @@PupchippI use to raise puppies and didn't let them out alone. I would only let a couple out with me at a time and when I seen birds of prey I took them in. At some point, I brought a kennel that a bird couldn't enter! Just think a chihuahua is no bigger than some rabbits and other animals that get scooped up and eaten.

      My neighbor's son was feeding a blue jay he'd gotten to know when a hawk swooped down right in front of him and snatched the blue jay. Really shook them up. This is a busy corner, lotsa traffic, and the hawk came out of nowhere to grab that poor bird by their front door....

      To free flight train a bird takes time and patience, anywhere between 3-6 months for a flighted bird. It’s a lot of desensitisation, positive reinforcement, a bunch of recall training, a great diet etc. Every bird, every owner, every location is different. There are courses which give you hours worth of knowledge and there are professional free flight trainers and experienced mentors who can help.
      This video will help you find the best trainer/mentor for you, most do online Skype courses, some do in person th-cam.com/video/kBCiUwtcORA/w-d-xo.html
      Most people learn with online courses.
      Or there are a few new trainers since this was made

      Gone free flying - Downloadable video course @gonefreeflying
      Chucky - London - In person @chucky_bw
