I worked for a promoter in California in 1976-77 with this version of the BBQ. I met your dad, Jimmy, Cecil, James, Big Ken Turner. I actually spent a lot of time with the group, mostly with the boss Cecil, and with Big Ken. This one time, at Melodyland Church in Anaheim, I was at the merch table and they ran out of the Blackwood Brothers Bibles that they sold, and Cecil made me pile into a car with your dad and Jimmy Blackwood to fetch more Bibles from the bus, then Cecil GAVE ME one of the Bibles! That was a GREAT lineup. Your dad was such a great natural tenor.

      Hi Rene',
You have every right in this world to be so proud of your daddy. Just make sure that you live your life for the Lord so you can be with him again when Jesus comes back to take His children home. I have really enjoyed listening to your daddy and the Blackwood Brothers on UTube. May God always bless You and your family, Darling!!! 💞💞💞💞

Your Dad will likely always be my very favorite quartet tenor. Taken from us way too soon, by our reckoning. You had a great honor, being his daughter. One day, we’ll see and hear him again!

I remember seeing them perform as a young child and loved Pat Hoffmaster! He was my favorite:) His life was cut far too short but am grateful for the blessing of his talent. Thank you to the Hoffmaster family for sharing their father and husband with the rest of the world! Looking forward to Heaven

Thank you for sharing your Daddy with us. I loved to hear him sing! I was in Jr High and Sr High school when this group of the Blackwood Brothers was touring. I made it to every concert in our area and had every album. Pat had an amazing tenor voice. He is dearly missed!

My dear Rene, I first met your dad when I was a student at the Stamps-Blackwood School of Music in the years 1974 and 1975. Back then it was held on the campus of Murray Sate University in Tennessee. He was brand new to the Blackwood Brothers back then and was newly introduced to all the students. By some providence, he and I hit it off and became good friends even though I was a teenager and he a grown man. Such was the nature of his character. He mentioned to me that he had been a part of a group in Texas called The Royals, when he heard of the need for a tenor in the Blackwood Brothers. In a short time during those two summers, I learned to love your dad. He had such a kind and friendly way to him that I knew was genuine. And, I know that Pat was that way to everyone. It broke my heart when I learned later that he had tragically passed away very young. It was so difficult for me to reconcile myself to the unfairness of life. He was such a good man, a wonderful talent, and a godly example to us all. Please allow me to extend, even though it is very late, my deepest sympathy to you. People often say that "when they get to heaven, the first person they want to see is..." . I hope that one of the first I see is Pat, and tell him what a great influence he was on me at such a young age. And, thank him for his godly life and giving his wonderful talent to the Lord. I wish you nothing but the very best in life going forward. I hope that by some chance, you may read these words. I have wanted to say them for such a long time. God Bless you. Matt

Had the privilege to meet him is Odessa Tx when he was with the Sound. Great man and the smoothest tenor I have ever heard.

I was blessed to have been able to see these guys sing this song in person at concerts during the early 80's. I wish someone would post a video of them singing, "Blessed Assurance". Nobody could sing that hymn like Pat Hoffmaster. John Cox was no comparison.

This was my favorite iteration of the BB’s. Pat was my favorite tenor ever - tons of power but never shrill. Jimmy was underrated, Cecil was solid and a fine emcee. And ole Ken. He could do it all, with quality. Add the best quartet pianist ever, (just my opinion) and it was magic every song.

Tenor hits fantastic high notes. Lot of tenors thin out; not this guy. Better than Bill Shaw in my opinion .
