      @@Chrissli3 yeah my buddy and I were on a ski tour a few years ago (before I upgraded/updated a bunch of kit) and decided to try and do a rough total of how much the gear with us cost, and it came out to about 6-7 grand (USD) per person. Haha. The wallet might hurt but the spirit is free!

      @d darko We are talking about what he was showing in the video, not a pair of walmart ski, and paper-mache boots.

    • @fredwells7403
      @fredwells7403 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @d darko To be fair, most people don't even have skis or boots. Or poles. Or any ski and snow gear actually.
      Hell, if you want to be decently comfortable in your clothing and insulation, you need to spend a pretty big chunk of cash.

    Excellent vid. I actually bought some Navis Freebirds with G3 Ion 10's, in part on your recommendation. The skis are spectacular, ridiculously killer in all condies. The bindings I'm less hot on; they released on me in an icy couloir last Tuesday. Prefer Dynafits from my old skis.

    Hi Nikolai, as I have a shed load (well a few) Icebreaker merino base layers so I have't added to my extensive Norrona wardrobe with their merino baselayers. What I have found useful is from another Norwegian company Brynje's mesh baselayers. I have the wool ones for holiday when washing them isn't convenient and the superthermo vest for winter biking here in England. I use these under the normal merino baselayers and find that they help to prevent that clammy feeling when merino gets damp.

    I’m looking for a combo that can rock both the resort and the backcountry here in Tromsø, but struggle to choose between the different series. I’ve been looking at both the pro and the pro light of lofoten, but also having an eye up for the Lyngen series.

    • @Nikolai_Schirmer

      Thanks!
      The camox is pretty sick actually. Had it in chamonix one winter, and took it out a few days that were unexpectedly deep, and they performed really well. It’s also a more fun ski than the atris when the snow is firm. Compared to the freebird they’re way more solid. You can charge on them. Which makes them a bit heavier of course

    Do you know what effect does weight have on ski length and type? I'm 190cm/70kg which is quite an outlier and I'm thinking of buying the corvus freebirds but I'm wondering if I just wouldn't be able to bend them into turns unless I ski extremely aggressively. I do this sort of slow super parallell skiing ignoring snow conditions on pretty soft skis (old wayback 84) and I'm thinking maybe I'm missing out. In particular in dense and heavy snow I feel I don't have stability to put weight forward and go fast.

    Hey Nico, great video as always! :)
    I get that you're sponsored by G3, but I'm curious about the G3 Ion 12 vs Salomon/Armada/Atomic SHIFT 12. So from one Scandinavian to another - Besides the 2 x 250 G weight saving, are there any advantages to the G3, or is the weight the main reason to chose the G3 over the SHIFT when going for a DH oriented touring setup?

    • @Nikolai_Schirmer
      @Nikolai_Schirmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Heyhey,
      Ease of use is the other factor you should consider. With the G3 you can go from walk to ski mode in a few seconds without taking your skis off. There’s a bit more hassle with the shift. Other than that they’re pretty much the same! If I were skiing the ski in the resort more I would prefer the shift/duke

    Super video informational video, you learned me more new stuff about skins/clothing/skis/bindings than I've learned in ages! love that you talk about mount points and a lot of stuff that nobody seems to talk about. I just got the atris in 189 and was wondering where to put the bindings as I do like the more forward mounting so +2 it is. Any suggestions for camox mount points as well? And do you use any sort of quiverkillers/bindingfreedom inserts so you can move bindings around? Alltid god stemning når du legger ut video og høy kvalitet! :)

    • @Nikolai_Schirmer
      @Nikolai_Schirmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sweet! Yes, so the reason the atris rides well that far forward is because the recommended one is -8cm from true centre, whereas the anima and lots of the other skis are -6cm. I like the camox at recommended. Just rode them there on Saturday. Feels good both switch and going forwards🤘 takk!

      @Nikolai_Schirmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pewpewpew8390 I haven't tried the Justis to be honest, but I think they look sick! My general impression is that Julien Regnier (who draws up all these) and Kenji (who does the engineering bit) really know what they're doing, and so far I haven't gotten a ski from them that doesn't perform. Julien does a good walkthrough of it here: th-cam.com/video/wRLuvWSK05Y/w-d-xo.html

    so it looks like you didn't mention anything about avalanche airbags, is there a reason for that? I am curious because I have heard experienced backcountry skiers say things like "avalanche airbags are either the last thing you get or the thing you never get because you should never be skiing in an area where an avalanche might happen," but don't they happen even when you think they won't? seems like if you are wrong that could directly be a life or death situation.
