- All versions of the Kia Niro, not just the EV, have a common problem with the backup camera, in the rain and in the winter, the camera gets coated in crud and becomes useless. The Camwipe in my video solves the problem!

Glad I received mine a few weeks ago, before the mad rush generated by your video. It is an excellent idea and product. It is a little costly, you could 3D print your own, but my vote is for supporting the inventors, if we rip off their ideas they'll stop inventing and we'll all be poorer for it.

My wife and I were going to buy a Niro back in July and we immediately bought it, we got ours a few weeks ago. Last night we finally brand new, 2019 version Kia Niro EX, but still brand new. We could not but a PHEV or EV because we live in a apartment and well no where to plug it in. But the version we get all gets great gas savings, and when we buy a house we will surely get an electric car. But today I'm going to install my camwipe. It's brilliant and wanted to thank you for this.

Enjoy the Camwipe, it's a great product. Just be sure to remove it if you use automatic brush car washes. I don't recommend using them as they do damage the paint.

I have to say that one thing I miss a lot since changing to the Kia EV6, is the Camwipe. I loved that thing.
Thanks for the info. Just ordered one. A person can always remove it before going into a auto car wash if they have concerns. It comes off in seconds so that would be not to much trouble.
My pleasure, and you are correct. Most automatic brush car washes have signs that you have to remove long antennae, or the stubby screw on ones, like I had on my previous car, the Nissan Note. So taking off the Camwipe before a wash would be 5 seconds. Thanks for the comment. 🙂

Yup, I agree....all mfg's should. Didn't Volvo include wipers and sprayers for the headlights? Now that was another thing all mfg's should include.
I wonder how many people that have seen this video would steal one if they spotted it. For me the V1, which is less easy to spot, is less prone to theft.
If someone is stealing a Camwipe, they are pretty low. I did not even think of someone stealing it because I would never even consider something like that. If it gets stolen then I will simply install another. I am happy to promote the name, it means that someone may look it up if they see it, then order one.

Interesting change. Why did you change to the e-Niro? I think it is a better car for several reasons, but I am curious as to your decision to go from the Kona to the Niro.

In a word “Wife”. I love the Kona we bought the top spec and I’ve had no complaints, however my wife loved our previous Kia Soul derv. it was a very roomy car for its size and had a reasonably high driving position.
The other day we had a test drive of the Soul EV. and wasn’t impressed by it, it just felt so different to our previous Soul. Mary then got into the Nero, bad move! She loved it, it’s bigger has better leg room in the back and for her feel a bigger car all round so that was it deposit paid, now the wait. What we do for 💓 lol.
Oh, should have mentioned the Hyundai was the first of the two makes to arrive in the U.K. and at the time fitted the bill. Thanks for all the tips, yours is one of the best channels I follow. 👍

How is the Camwipe holding up after some use?
I live in a country where it gets quite wet in periods all year round.
I have been using the Camwipe for about 2 weeks and it has been raining very hard for the last week. The Camwipe is doing very well and I would not go back to not having it installed, it is great. Also to note, the inventor has been using it for about 2 years with no issues.
Clever solution, nice video! I’m noticing a Soul on your driveway, would something similar fit on that as well? Is it an EV or petrol version btw? I have my Soul EV arrive in a couple of weeks, that’s why I’m asking.
Thank you very much! Regarding the Soul, it is my wife's 2019 Soul EV Luxury, she bought it and received it the same day I got my Niro EV, May 6th 2019. She loves it. I am supposed to do a video about why I would suggest she buy an older EV technology, I have just been too busy with my business. About your question for the Camwipe and the Soul, unfortunately the Soul has the camera much lower so it is not possible to use a similar device. I am very fortunate that the Niro has the camera right below the wiper arm.
EV-olution Why would you suggest her buying something older? Especially with EVs technology is improving so rapidly. If you can afford it, I would always recommend the newest. Wouldn’t you?

I’d like to ask an unrelated question though: how does the e-Niro behave on snow, going up a steep hill? I’m interested in the e-Niro, but that question has been bothering me a lot.
I live in Surrey B.C. Canada and while we don't usually get a lot of snow we can sometimes get about 6 Inches (15 cm) like we did this year. My Kia Niro did really well in the snow even up hill with M*S factory tires. Hope this helps.
Thank you very much. In Québec it is mandated by law that we use 4 winter tires in the winter (specific dates are in the law). In the winter my Niro EV has performed very well and I love it in the snow. I have Nokian Hakka R3 (no studs) winter tires and with the weight of the car it sticks very well. I will make a winter driving video as you are the 4th person to ask 🙂

Winter tires are mandated here as well, and of course it’s essential to get good ones. However, our current front wheel drive car doesn’t perform all that well even with the best tires (uphill, snow), so that had me in a bit of a worry with regard to the e-Niro.
Derrell Nicholls Thanks for the answer! That does sound rather encouraging. The Kona, which has basically the same drivetrain, does not handle the combination (a good batch of) snow + steep hill very well.
@@CaroAbebe It really depends on the driver and what mode you are in. If you have the Kona, or Niro, in Normal mode (not Eco, or Sport) and you accelerate normally, not too agressive, then you have no issues. I did notice that in Eco mode the car is way to happy to kill the power to the wheels when they spin. The Kona you are mentioning may have been in Eco mode.

Bonjour, ça me fait plaisir. Le petit bout gris est seulement pour le transport car quelques personnes avaient reçu leur Camwipe brisé car cette partie est plus fragile. Camwipe les a remplacés sans frais.

Have you ever thought about upgrading headlight bulbs to HID? If so, what brand?
The Canadian Niro top trim comes with LED headlights, so HID would be a downgrade. If you have a Niro and are thinking about upgrading your headlights, there is a person in the US who upgraded his to LED. Here is his video: th-cam.com/video/rI6ArdBao8M/w-d-xo.html
When you install the camwipe it can fall easily. I put a little gum that
we use to stick poster on a wall. it s call lepage fun tack.
Mine is on very solid and requires force to remove. Please make sure you have both pins on the inside where it clips to the mounting post.
With consistent use, does the brush eventually scratch the camera lens, degrading image quality?
Not at all. After almost 3 years of use there was no damage to the lens when I sold the car.
Who needs a rear camera, luckily I have had my driver's license for 34 years now, and was taught to use the mirrors to park my car....but....very nice idea indeed ;)
Mirrors don't show you what is below the rear window, like a high cement curb, etc.
EV-olution that’s very true....I once managed to “release” the exhaust of my car by reversing towards a gate...I had the gate clear in my mirrors, but they had protected it from truck drivers with small concrete “poles”. They were much wider than tall and sure enough they were painted red and white but I was little use at that height....that’s the only time a camera would have helped, but this was 25 years ago or so....
I have had a camera on a temporary car before and tried using it, but I felt what I was seeing was “reversed” to what I was doing with the steering wheel. Only later someone told me that you can actually reverse the picture using an option in the settings.....LOL.
Simple yet genius may also work on different cars/models.
If the camera is located similarly then yes. The Camwipe is a brilliant idea.

Nice, but how stabel it will be in a car wash? There is a possibility I thing, that the rotating brushes will tear it off ...

In the UK the rotating brush washes are almost extinct, why, because hand washes are cheaper and nearly always East Europeans, I always use them, but feel a bit guilty of exploiting them.
I have two comments regarding your question, which is a very good question by the way...
1) The device would rip off in a brush car wash, it is not designed for that type of abuse.
2) As a rule I never use an automatic car wash unless it is touchless. Just think of those brushes. You are worried about them ripping off the Camwipe, correct? Imagine what that pressure and whipping do to your paint and finish. Now imagine that the car in front of you had mud and pebbles stuck to his car when he had it washed. Now you let those same brushes, filled with debris, scratch your car.
So to answer your question, I would not recommend going through an automatic brushing car wash as it would probably rip off the Camwipe.

No, it is a brush that the inventor sourced and tested to get a brush that is not too rough and not too soft, that does not degrade outside (UV rays, temperature, etc.)
It looks great, but isn't there a risk of scratching the front of the camera ?
exactly, I thought of that, if the brush is a bit hard, it will scratch the lens...
The brush is very soft and will not cause damage. The inventor, Eldar, has been using it for about 2 years.

What I find a pity is, that during darkness the camera is of no use. Bad quality!

Honestly 54 Canadian dollars.? Ouch, I think I will clean it manually. Needs to be 25-30 dollars to make it a success. My 2 cents.
I agree that with the exchange rate the price is a bit steep, but that includes the 5 Euro shipping fee. The way I look at it is that I have a 54,000$ CDN car, so a 50$ accessory is not that expensive overall and the convenience it adds, in my opinion, is well worth the money. Just my 2 cents 🙂

@@EV-olution ahh i see that, good video but the prices is rediculous, the camera itself is 15 euros, this plastic toothbrush is 30. If it cant be made to be sold for 5-10 then it should be re-thought..... but then you read of so many on here spending 30 dollars on it.

I am able and learned how to drive in reverse and park on my mirrors.. No need for a camera
The camera can be very convenient when there is something lower than the rear window, and not visible from the side mirrors, like a cement border. It is in these situations that the rear camera is very useful.
