I can't believe your pre-rounding/admit/discharge videos were reported and had to be taken down! Those were BY FAR the most helpful tools I have used on my rotations to help with my efficiency. It's so sad that bureaucracy gets in the way of avenues that have proven to be so helpful for students and residents. Thank you for your awesome videos!
Thanks so much for your perspective!! You’re like the one person that makes me feel like going into internal med isn’t all that terrible. I don’t want to do any other specialty tbh
Haha yeah I think if you're going into medicine purely for lifestyle and money, IM is probably not the best choice. But if you're actually interested in medicine and you like the material, IM really is great. And you really do get to feel like a true doctor doing doctor things! :P
Fellowship is indeed better than residence for me, intern year by far is the hardest year in my opinion. Attending years are much better than training years:) so life is good 👍
Love when u read Reddit posts
Not a doctor in the US but can totally feel the struggle! Esp when some interns have to balance clinical works and research as well
From my understanding, doctors outside the US also have it tough! Really long roads to seniority and much lower compensation compared to the US. The massive amounts of debt aren't as high though. Wondering what your experience has been :p
Geez how did they get your EMR videos taken down?!!! That’s so unfair! I’m sorry! I would’ve liked to learn from those.
Haha thank you, maybe I will be able to remake them sometime! Won't be as easy though since they weren't okay with me recording the EMR which was the main problem
I thought 2nd year was a lot better in FM residency…until I did a month of inpatient wards at the VA Mather where we have Long Call q4days. It’s horrendous!
Great video I’m applying this cycle.. would love to hear more about how we could make IM residency better.
Feels like every specialty has more fun than IM. medicine is fun but the job has made it less so. What do u think?
A bit of a nuanced discussion - but I think a lot of specialties have their pros and cons. I know a lot of other people in other specialties including the more "exciting" procedural specialties who lament about various aspects of their jobs. On the other hand, in medicine we are stuck behind a computer all day and crushed by the burden of documentation. Really what is most important is to assess the bread and butter of each specialty and figure out what you enjoy the most - then figure out what your "worst day" could look like in each specialty and figure out if that is something you think you would be able to tolerate!
This was cool!
