I don't know why you guys don't do more videos often they are so enjoyable, even a weekly tour of the shop and a conversation makes my day I hope you can consider that thanks.
Cigars are one of the few things that bridge art and science, and I just find it fascinating. If I ever make it to London I know where my first stop will be. Thank you!
Thank you for this lovely video! My brother went to your shop on my behalf when he was visiting the UK, and met your father. He so enjoyed the experience and I now have a picture of them both at the shop, standing on my desk. God bless.
Many thanks amd blessings to Edward and Eddie for being so welcoming to me in their shop. It was the highlight of my trip to London and was beyond my expectations for my first trip to London❤
Eddie can you make a more detailed video on the meaning of strength within a cigar? And how that correlates to terms like “medium body” “full body” and if the color of the wrapper has anything to do with this “strength”? With your experience, would love to hear your explanation
They already mentioned that the color of the wrapper doesn't indicate 'strength'. I also heard Cuba doesn't like often to use the term 'strength' instead they like to go with 'body'.
Eddie, you are a class act. You make me want to be a better man, a classy man. You are such an inspiration to many men. I look so forward to your videos. Keep up these wonderful videos.
Eddie - Thank You for your wonderful contributions to the cigar community. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos, please keep them coming. The information you provide is priceless, and has helped me immensely. Cheers and best of health to you and your father - Edward.
Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge in the so much passionate world of cigars Eddie, this is just an incredibly valuable piece of information.
A friend sent me a selection of cigars from store around with a wonderful card with you and Avo. On the back you signed it wishing a happy birthday. Thank you so much for taking the time to make my birthday a special one.
Prof. Eddie Sahakian delivers! Excellent video, sir! I grew to like the cellophane wrappers, especially for smaller humidors - it gives it a safe buffer if humidity is not perfect and also nicely protects the foot, for large ring gauges.
A wonderful lecture at Cigar University from Professor Eddie Sahakian. I was always skeptical of the cellophane. Now I know. I am sure a visit to your shop is on many bucket lists. It is on mine. Cheers from Canada
I have passed your shop many times but I have never dared to visit you because I am an amateur when it comes to cigars, but next time I come to London I will visit your shop. Thanks for all the wonderful videos.
Could you maybe speak about some of the cheaper cigar options someone could get into if they're just starting out on their cigar smoking journey and don't want to break the bank!
This is difficult. Any decent cigar costs money. Affordability is relative. I know people who refuse anything over $40 a cigar. I have been to tobacconists who have rare cigars for over $1000. It depends on your budget. My brother started smoking Cohibas back in the 80s when they much cheaper. Still a good cigar to start with. But there are many others and you can spend a lifetime sampling the various types. As you earn more money you can afford better cigars.
I'm a smoker however not a cigar smoker, unless you count a blunt as a cigar lol, but I have every appreciation for curing a product to develop a more robust taste
I'm intrigued with cigars, and how it would be to unwind while enjoying one. I have never tried a cigar, and probably never will. But I still enjoy seeing the videos.
As someone who comes from lesser means throughout life, I find it astonishing that everyone from all walks of life can appreciate the finer things in life.
I was at a JC Newman cigar event and they mentioned that the cellophane used for cigars is made of sugar and water. The organizer also burnt the cellophane and no smell of plastic in sight. Has this always been the case.
Sir I really hope you know just how lucky you are. I'm off now to get covered in brick dust & hopefully my cheapo stick will be posted before I get home?
This was a revelation. Until now, I have avoided tubed or cellophaned cigars like a poor stepchild, no matter what the maker...it just didn't sit well with me but hearing Eddie say otherwise has given me a new perspective. I will give it a try this weekend as I trust Eddie's knowledge implicitly. Enjoy, my friends.
Yes indeed. Though they will age not near as quickly in tubes, a cigar in a tube (preferably glass for me Hoyo De Monterrey has some beautiful ones) will age with much more personality. Eddie put it well when he said, "it's a cigar time capsule". Aging while also preserving the beauty of origin time & place when originally entubed.
Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and experience about cigars, their packaging and the interaction between them. I've been smoking the pipe since I was in my twenties and only rarely have I enjoyed habanos: your masterful videos and the conversation you, your father and Kirby Allison kindly shared here on TH-cam, inspired me to try cigars a bit more regularly. It's a little additional joy I owe to you! Keep this exceptional content coming, please!
Thank you so much. Still new to cigars but I have already benefited from your advice by storing my cigars in a humidor but inside my electric champagne cellar at 11 degrees c Aging bubbles and cigars Yum
Hello good sir, I just wanted to know, do you ship to Europe? I consume about two to three cigars a day, usually Cuban ones, and I would prefer to buy them from you if possible.
Hi Alex, sadly we don't ship to Europe due to the various local tobacco importation regulations. I hope we can help when you are next in London though.
Greetings, Very accurate explanation on packaging. Although, I would like to add that cellophanes are not exactly like tubes the cellophane packaging is breathable therefore there will be aging on them but slower compared to naked cigar. Meanwhile the tube's as you said are time capsules. Also would like some content on vintage cigars how they taste now after decade's of aging on them. Best regards
Hello Eddie, I have a 125-cigar-capacity Ancora okoume humidor. For whatever reason, almost all the cigars I purchase (from individual sticks to entire boxes) come wrapped in cellophane. I don't buy the cigars for long-term aging - I plan to smoke them within a year. My question is - given the above, would you recommend removing the cellophane before storing the cigars in the humidor? It sounds like the answer is "yes" but I thought I would ask nonetheless. I welcome others' thoughts on this as well. The Davidoff of London videos are great - I would especially love to see more clips from your classy cigar lounge at the Bulgari. Keep em' coming! Frank
Is it advisable to retain the cigars within the Habano samplers' original packaging? These boxes are reputed to bestow a dominant essence of cedar. The boxes are quite gorgeous too.
Little question, if we also want to age our cigars, how do we know what the right time is 10yrs 20yrs 40yrs? How do we know what the maxime time of ageing is?
There is no objective test however we like to taste a cigar from the ageing box every year or so to see how they are developing. Of course ideally you need two boxes then - one to age and one to test periodically.
Given the very limited “ageing” of the cigar in a dress box as there is so little contact would that ageing level improve if the cigars were constantly rotated and rolled so that over a period more of the neighbouring cigar would have been in contact with the surrounding cigars. ( ie) Rather than sitting in a box and only one tiny part of the cigar ever touching it’s neighbour - More of the cigars body/leaf etc would therefore be touching through greater movement ?
Hi Alan, thank you for your comment and certainly true. The only problem will be explaining to my wife that I can't come home because I am rotating my cigars!
Sincere question: do you produce your videos with a nod to the “cozy” movement? There is this… eh, trend(?) where people view relaxing, soothing cadenced videos to get that “koselig” vibe. Great work, as always 👏👏
I am pleased that my voice is relaxing (apparently not the case according to my wife!) however it is not done on purpose. I will be researching "Koselig" as I have not come across before. Thank you for watching.
I look forward to these videos with Eddie. A man of culture, knowledge, and class.

When aging cigars in the box or a slb do you have to rotate the cigars or do you just leave them alone

so if a box of Trinidad ( for example) has a paper between the top and bottom rows should you remove the paper if you want to speed the aging ?
Yes you could but it would have a very marginal impact.
