this is maybe the best auto repair tutorial video i've ever seen. So clean, great camera angles, great audio. All the steps were visible and she did a great job talking about each step clearly.
Omg thank you all my stress has went away I thought I was going to have to search the junk yard to find this part you made everything so simple and your voice is so calming also lol
Excellent, as per the mechanic, I needed to replace the whole steering rack for my Honda CRV 2001, ($200) but after seeing this, all I need are the bellow boots....($25). Thanks.
I have an 09 civic sedan and would guess that its essentially the same job on it as this CRV. thanks for an excellent video. Nice ideas on using the tape to measure thread depth and zip ties doubled up! I havent seen that before.

If you're watching this trying to do the same on a honda element. The ti rod tool is too short. I broke mine loose with crow foot wrench. You're welcome!
Sue, how do you remove the 2005 CR-V inner tie rod when many inner tie rod tools are too short? And what size in mm do I need because 24mm will not fit.
About the cotter pin install. The torque spec for a Honda is very low, between 30-40 lb ft. It seems you have tightened it to a good 60 lb ft at least so the castle nut is too high compared to the hole. The pin should pass snuggly through the hole and between the nut’s castelations. As shown in the video, the pin is free to rotate and clear the castelations completely and thus is serving no purpose.
Would a clamp type removal tool fit due to tight space, or only the tube type tool fits? Also, don't you have to hold the steering rack shaft while undoing/tightening to prevent damaging?
Cable ties will not hold up for the long run. Do yourself a favor and get oetiker clamps for the inner part of the boots. You can tighten them by gently squeezing the tab with diagonal cutter pliers. Just don't squeeze them hard enough to cut them.
+Demetrios Papavramidis Thank you for pointing out that we forgot to show you that part of the repair! Yes, you will want to finish tightening down the zip ties after everything has been put back together. 1aauto.com
Nice video but she didnt specify the size of the inner tie rod tool she used. That was important to those DIY'er to get that tools perfectly in size with a tight budget.
Hiya Ariel! These tools are usually sold with a variety of wrench openings so that you can select one that fits. They are typically rented the same way (if you can find anyone renting tools these days!). Depending on the access on your vehicle, once the flat washer is bent back, you may be able to break the inner tie rod joint with a set of large channel locks, might save you some dough. I did notice that she did not show the step of tightening up the zip ties she applied to the inner side of the bellows cover. That does need to be tight with whatever clamp style fastener you might use.
So I found out my 08 crv is leaking from the right from and was told I would have to have the assembly replaced because it is leaking. Can’t they just replace the seal?
Great video, after watching your video, I will replace my car ‘tire rod,but I have a question “1a auto shows us build tire rod and Japan build tire rod. I really don’t know which tire rod should I buy??my car is 2008 Honda CR-V .can someone tell me which one should I buy “us build tire rod or Japan build tire rod “?? Thanks
+Chao Tan thank you for your question. Honda built this vehicle in US and Japan. Based on the 1st digit of your VIN# J for Japan you would purchase the part for the correct fitment
The 03 honda element and some of the handa polits. Can't use this method. I use a 29mm or 1⅛ sunex crows foot with large ½ drive ratch wrench. Flex head helps. Plus the rack is to tight to tie rod and tie rod is to long for that tool she was using!
2008 TSX here. Similar setup. I had an O ring pop off when I took off the inner tie rod end. The inner tie rod I bought from Moog did not come with any sort of O ring. Am I supposed to install the O ring? This video doesn't seem to mention it at all. Please assist, lol - Brittany

If you apply too much torque, you can yield the threads in the lug nuts. In that case, the threads are damaged and will not hold as well during repeated use. I personally torque my wheel nuts to 90 lb ft because at 80, i could free them with almost just the weight of my arm. 90 requires just a bit of strength to loosen after a whole season of use and is close to spec so perfect for me.

But you forget to tighten the cable tight for the rubber boot, thanks for this video
You guys and gals make great videos. You take your time and really explain everything clearly. Good job.

Using the pliers to lock in the inner tie rod was a great idea since it’s a tight spot. Thank you!

Nice work. But it appears that you forgot to tighten the inner zip tie on the inner boot flange. This looks like it will be really easy to do.
lol yeah right
@@bggraham83 I have noticed it too, I went back to replay it to make sure and she did. opps ;)
Thank you so much saved me a fortune doing it my self
Nice video. You forgot to tighten the boot with the plastic ties,
+Dirk Amoraal Thanks for the feedback!
Actually, it is very difficult to tighten the plastic tie due to narrow space there. I spent two hours to tighten it for my Cadillac Eldorado 1994.
@@Sejin_Song that's why you use a large hose clamp and not a zip tie
Excellent video showing all the steps clearly.
Nice videos presented on the replacements of tie rod end.

Did you do up the cable tie in the end? The suspense is killing me!

Wonderful job.
Wish there was one of inner passenger side on a 2000 lincoln continental fwd. Looks like the zip ties on mine are in a tighter area!!
She never mentioned the specification torque on the tie road

+momin khan Thank you for checking out our video and we will take note of your suggestion!
It's exactly the same
Good info, but the inner tie rod should really be torqued to spec. Hand tighten plus about 3/4 turn gave me the proper torque, not 1/8 turn

Should bearings be always replaced with tie rods?

whats that yellow stuff she put inside the tire rod
is that what you guys mean by pre greased?
+Aaron Gregory It is necessary to apply grease to the inner tie rod inside the rack and pinion bellow.

that torque on wheels seems too weak, why not just tighten it as hard as you can with the car's wrench wheel
