When the Hispanic guy got zapped, I felt that. He died for the kid. He didn’t deserve that, he couldn’t understand what everyone was saying and didn’t know what to do

The Hispanic guy lost the only person who would translate for him the previous round. I think he knew his time was coming and the translator did whisper something into his ear before she got zapped.
I think she told him that sides were being formed and the little girl and pregnant lady would constantly be at risk and others have already agreed the Hispanic guy should go because he can't contribute to the conversation.

#1 he is the only one to show proof/documentation/pictures of his kids.
#2 most of them seem to be from the Cali/Ari area (according to the movie script). I think there was more than 1 person who could translate but decided not to because it could be considered as "wasting time".
No doubt that he stepped off to protect the little girl was a selfless act.
The "glasses man" was the biggest piece of trash, with a few others.
I honestly think that once the translator got zapped, he knew his time was short/coming.
What makes his death/sacrifice "sad" was that going forward people claimed "I have a kid" but the Hispanic guy was the only one who carried pictures.
Sorry about the long rant. I do agree with you that his death was sad/selfless. I like to believe the translator lady gave him more time than what others would have.

The dude who did survive at the end was the one who put that guy who voted for the pregnant girl on the block.
They all agreed to "vote for the person next to you".
But the one guy and pregnant lady tied and the dude who survived at the end helped saved the pregnant lady, (at the time).
When I first watched the movie I really hoped he would have stepped off in the end.
I was cheering for the little girl, the pregnant lady, and the dude (who ultimately survived) along with the guy who never spoke.

I remember seeing this movie like 3 years ago on netflix, it was a real interesting plot. One thing i always thought would make it more dark would be if in the end, the winners are put in another room going through all of this again.
Theory: they dont actually die when they get zapped their memory gets wiped and they move onto the next round. If you dont get zapped you are send back to earth with the guilt of knowing you killed people and if you sacrifice yourself every time you win (I'm not sure what you win or if you just go back to living life normally)

What the ending strongly indicates is that for the aliens' new regime, they attacked the human population by having them reduce each other first. If 20 people enter a game and only one leaves, then this new society cannot rise against the aliens, because they can hardly trust each other. Every one of them a winner of the game. Perhaps the aliens will also pretend their dictatorship is a benevolent one, but the first step was destabilizing the humans and weakening their ability to trust one another.
I mean the aliens could just zap one more person on every ship.
But of course in the real world scenario, I think everyone would panic and will shove one another outside the circle.

I mean, they had lived longer than other ppl in the room. If it were me, I'd also say elders go first because you've already lived the longest you know. Then it would be going down the line i guess in age. Id want that little girl to live. Lets say we go down the line in age and just the lil girl and the pregnant lady were alive. Tbh, the pregnant lady should have died. If we were getting attacked and concorded by aliens right...... the only way to beat THEM and turn the tables is if there were none of us for them TO concord. Soo with her being pregnant and about to reproduce aint good. The lady first off, is older than the child. She already experienced so much, like idk driving, having a first love, u know gettin busy and (in the process) of havin a kid with someone. Shes already experienced way more than that lil girl. Whos to say if that girl did survive, would she be even ABLE to do those things, seeing as aliens take over and are dictators and they dont let us do anything. But its still a fact that she was the youngest, most innocent, ACTUAL person who was BORN, alive and conscious. To be fair, I wouldn't even want to LIVE like that, if we got concorded by aliens, without my family, without my friends, without my freedom? What kinda of life is that? Now, if i were PREGNANT, and was about to bring an innocent person into a world like THAT, id think twice about whats better for me and my future child u know. I like how it all ends up coming down to your personal morals, who's life is worth more, who deserves to die. Its an interesting movie concept
the game focusing on the circles, hence the title, pregnant women equal to 1 person due to being on one circle together. when the mother fell, the baby heartbeat was picked up by the circle and therefore became another person, so all those pregnant women at the end, still had their babies because they were on one circle so don't have to vote for their baby.

They're the only ones at fault, the survivor did nothing wrong, and the 5th to last carries that energy. I wouldn't say you can find yourself or your morals here. At best it tells you whether or not you'd die...In a death game made by aliens lol. However, there are some questions raised indirectly. Most important to me was how I respond to aggressive people vs. passive people. Would Red-tie man, an antagonistic(ish) force really outlive some of the quieter characters for example?

@@gummy5862 It's not, you're right lol. But you can get something out of it still. For me, I think an ethical hurdle is blaming the aliens for the situation rather than anyone in the room. The man who lived didn't kill anyone, the aliens did. I mean the man is guilty of being an asshole and you shouldn't trust him, but he made a reasonable decision given extraneous circumstances. Given the ending, I feel like the director wasn't thinking the aliens were at fault, but that's his problem. So call this thinking outside the box, I dunno.

It’s not really exactly clear what the message of the movie was either (assuming there was supposed to be one). At the ending where it shows the other people outside, it looks like most of the group are female, probably pregnant. Just goes to show that if you want to win over a pregnant woman in this type of game, you'd most likely have to play dirty.

I mean, there’s a bunch of children and pregnant women too, who clearly got there because of the heroics of others, not manipulation.
I mean they all were voting, most of the people who died died because they were forced to not because they choose to do so. The homophobe, racist ect people died, they were all selfish.
At the end there are 2 groups, children and pregnant woman, and second group is grown man. Now they all know exactly what they done and have to live with each other to rebuild society.

Good mystery movies should be watched fully than read recap. You are truly missing the tension, score and atmosphere of real movie. Recap is only good for bad movies.

I just realized if the pregnant woman remained they would have made her choose between herself of the baby, except it appears that if she kills herself then she would kill the baby. I read a few things though and it sounds like they never truly tried picking no one.

@@cat-mh2wp That leads to two possible conclusions. Either picking no one leads to everyone living, and/or there maybe a certain age where the aliens consider a person has the right to vote. We don't know how many months each woman was.
@@EM33700 we presume that although the pregnant lady died, the aliens picked up the baby's heart rate and the guy had to decide again since there was only supposed to be one person in the room. so if the pregnant lady was left, I doubt she'd have to choose between herself and her unborn child.

In the begining it was shown that when the lady tried to touch the soldier the buzzer rings(guessing its a warning before electical charges zaps out) . So, I am guessing she communicated this info to others, when they all woke up. Thus, nobody trys to push others out of their cirlce.

@Godzilla adding to this, at the end we find out that some circles, most even, had chosen to save the kids/ pregnant women as to present the complexity of said nature, its clear construction of morals and its variable adherence to them based on our own subjective metrics (though I thought the movie only came to reveal the superficial aspects of the latter but it makes sense considering the short thinking span there is between each death
