I agree with Woody; what I love about Haymitch is that he may look like a grumpy old drunk, which he is, but there's so much more to him. He becomes affectionate of Katniss and Peeta and he's suffered terrible loss in the past.

Haymitch is hella funny I wish he could have fallen off the stage in the movie.
So disappointing to see...not the movies; their portrayals are beautiful. But I find Effie one of the ABSOLUTE LEAST selfish people in the entire thing. She's never been remotely villainous. I love ya, Liz, but that characterization...just, no. By now it's definitely time to let go of that notion--that flippant dismissal of a fascinating and wonderful character. It's the casual, shallow, superficial, thoughtless, unfair reading of her. She's my favorite, and I can just go on and on about her for ages and ages.
And geez, woman, it's "Haymitch," not Hamish! xp
