    I use the Google maps as well with a truck app..You MUST ALWAYS CHECK WITH A MAP..YOUR RIGHT! IF GOOGLE MAPS MADE A TRUCK APP IT WOULD BE KING!

    Currently I'm using a combination of Google maps and a garmin Truck GPS. Typically I use the GPS for navigation and and Google maps for the satellite viewSo I know what gate I need to go into at the customer.However this may change in the near future, Up until this Monday I was using a Samsung Galaxy S5 So trucker's path was unusable And Google maps struggled on that phone , but now that I have a newer one I can explore other options such as trucker's path.

    The best way is the map believe it or not. Double check your route and the go with confidence with the gps. Low bridges, small streets, no trucks allowed…it happens

    I prefer google maps but the one problem I have with them is I very often (every day) go areas where I have no cell service and that leaves me without info. So I use a combination of gps and apps

    • @watcher206
      @watcher206 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if you go into the same areas everyday or not.. but if you do you could possibly download offline maps to solve this problem.

    For me personally, the biggest issue with Google Maps is driving in Chicago.
    Chicago has a lot of low bridges due to their metro/train system, and in many areas, there’s only certain routes that will get you under the railroads. Without knowing these routes, you will get in big troubles.
    90% of times other than Chicago is somewhat reliable.

    I don't understand why Google Maps don't have a device like Garmin does or have a setting on Maps for Truckers.

  • @cheapspace
    @cheapspace 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    just remember that google maps is not an end all app it also can be wrong you need multiple apps to really get an idea of whats going on. i have had satellite views that where old and showed no business but a field ....that happens. You also need to double check before you approach your last stop to verify your going to the right place and not some random neighborhood ALL gps's can send you to an incorrect location(google maps is great but it doesn't know your in a semi if your not paying attention you'll end up in a very dangerous situation like a low bridge for instance) if your not 100% sure call you dispatcher and find out or don't move an inch.

      I do too rand McNally bugs out sometimes and it doesn’t know where construction areas hence the Google maps I mainly use McNally only for low bridges and non truck roads another top use coordinates to exactly where you want to go ie truck entrance

    Trucker path is what you need to use along with google maps for satellite views. Google maps are meant for cars and it can lead to roads not suitable for trucks and low bridges is going to get you in a lot of trouble

    Does google maps have a truck route? Because I’m a new driver and I wouldn’t want to take a route that’s not efficient for a semi truck to drive on? And I’m sure that a lot of peoples fears

    Can't even use Google maps in my car. It's just bad. If you know where you're going and type in an address it will almost always send u a direction that isn't direct. I used to think it was due to traffic but then traffic would be fine when I ignored the map. It also tends to reroute me mid drive several times to the right it wants me to take even if I selected an alternative route due to wanting to avoid tolls that day. Shouldn't have to select or deselect avoid tolls in the settings everytime. Google maps n Waze will also take u through alleys and low bridges. I used GPS Google street view to spec out the place I'm going or any residential areas.

    NEVER DEPEND ON GOOGLE MAPS FOR ROUTING UNLESS YOU LIKE DRIVING A CONVERTIBLE SEMI IN BAD WEATHER. IT will send you places meant for cars only!! It is good for satellite view of shippers or receivers etc.

    My AT&T service went down last week causing me to loose Google Maps capabilities and since I do multiple pickups in the Chicago area, I was forced to buy a trucker's GPS. OMG they are still as bad as they were 20 years ago. Why can't they be as smooth and user friendly as the FREE Google Maps??? If Google came out with a trucker only version that worked exactly like the standard version, I would gladly pay $500 for it instead of the $500 crap Garmin I just bought. And what's up with the female voice in Garmin? She sounds like she's on drugs, all sad and depressed sounding.
