    Despite them having gone from the amazing and unpredictable Airplane to somewhat generic West Coast by this time, I still have a soft spot for them.

      They didn't go from Airplane. Jefferson Starship was a different and new band from Airplane (forming two years after Airplane ended).

    Howdy folks. This is the coolest. I won backstage passes to see the JS at the CU Boulder Events Center, in fall 1982, which is where the backstage and concert footage for this video were filmed. This was the first time I met Kantner, Slick, Freiberg, Chacquico, Sears, et. al. I had forgotten that a film crew was there the night. Surfing around on TH-cam, I found a link to this very snowy, Nov. night at the CU Events Center. I remember it well. At the 12 minute mark, you can see me (with red hair and freshly signed CROWN OF CREATION album) and my friend Eric, from high school, talking to Kantner. I still have that LP and the backstage pass; the LP has been signed 1X by Slick, 1X by Balin, 1X by Jack, 1X by Papa John (yeah, I know), 3X by Jorma, and 3X by Kantner. Grace and Paul signed it for the first time that night. Everyone except Spencer Dryden has signed it. And, you never know what's gonna turn up on TH-cam!!! Thanks for posting this video. Cheers.....MC Malthus.

    Black Widow best metal song of the entire 1980s or ever. Far better than anything any metal band ever put out but it got zero radio play. It should have been re released in 1987-1988 and got massive radio play when metal ruled.

    • @48nature
      @48nature 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Black Widow was written by Craig Chaquico, the lead guitarist in the band (music and lyrics) with additional lyrics by Grace Slick.

    I will say it again, back when the san francisco bay area had a great music scene. While the Jefferson Starship was a little szchopranic musically going from "miracles" "run away" "ride the tiger" to "jane" "stranger" "can't find love" they were a great band. The critics were never too kind to them which i believed inspired on modern times album "f..k you we do what we want" but I saw them live and they put on a great show and they seemed to be having fun doing it. Nuclear furniture was the beginning of the end. While it had a few good songs, they seemed to be running out of steam. But nonetheless I think they were still a good band especially as a straight forward rock band from freedom at point zero to winds of change. Miss those days. 🤘🏻✌🏼

    • @48nature
      @48nature 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was Craig Chaquico's influence as a songwriter (not just as lead guitarist in the band)

    • @rickyward542
      @rickyward542 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have seen about 50 Jefferson Starship shows and the solo's were always from Craig on lead guitar and Pete Sears on bass. When Paul died I wrote a tribute sentence using nine songs from Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. Here goes. It's No Secret, Today Paul Kantner is no longer Running Around This World, but his spirit is like a High Flyin Bird singing Let Me Fly to the Other Side Of This Life where I can wear the Crown of Creation and see The Light from the Windows of Heaven.

      @@rickyward542 very nice Tribute to Paul.
      Thank you for the info regarding the solos. Since Craig was the youngest one of the group, I see why they had him do the solos, plus he is a good guitar player.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No. he only played rhythm guitar. In fact, when it came time to double solos like on 'Find Your Way Back' etc. Pete Sears would step out from the keyboards and play the parts. IMO, Paul didn't write or contribute to any of the Jefferson Airplane/Starship's best hit songs. He wrote or co-wrote only 10 songs, that you've likely never heard of. Not exactly the driving force of the band, but he was "there". His biggest contribution was being Grace Slick's boyfriend for a short time, and they had a child together. 🤷‍♂
