This lecture was the hardest one for me. So difficult that I dared not let my heart communicate with you, I didn't cry at the end when you all cried... My ego activated its logical-analytical mechanism to protect me. To shield me from pain. The conversation of our imams, peace be upon them, metaphorically speaking, perhaps is harder than the tragedy of Karbala itself.
I pray to God to reward you for the effort you invest, respected Sayed Amar, and to enlighten my heart to the extent that it will overcome my ego... I want to cry, I want to sob just like you did when, God willing, I listen to this lecture again.

Salam. If you’ve just started reading about Islamic history, Peshawar Nights would be a great start.
Sayed Ammar a few years ago recommended two books on Karbala: one is Maqtal of Imam Hussain by Abu Mikhnaf, and another is Imam Hussain and the Tragic Saga of Karbala, by Ayatollah Ali Nazari Munfared. This book gives you a narrative of the journey to Karbala and the aftermath of what took place in Kufa and Shaam.
