Enjoyable to watch, wonderful adventure, nicely done film. The Coaster looks comfortably set up. It seems like you have a long footed mizzen, does the mains'l have a longer foot than standard, or is that an illusion created by the extra wide angle camera lense?

Thanks for the comments. No, it's all bog-standard. I just feel the rig works better off the wind with booms on both sails. The main boom is over-long compared to the sail so that the mainsheet can work at a sensible angle. I'm actually in the process of trying out an aluminium mast/bermudan rig (I just happen to have one lying around!). Not sailed with it yet, but it seems as easy to put up as the wooden mast, so all positive so far. Watch this space!

Using the outboard like that is impressive. I really must plan a trip in those waters, looks fantastic. I have a long footed mizzen and high peak main (R&J Sails); really like them, mostly for the improved balance and a more positive helm. Happy travels!

I really enjoyed this video, I’d love to do this, and ae admired drascombes for a long time. Can you launch single handed ok?

Yes, you can launch and recover singlehanded. It takes a bit of planning and you need a decent slipway with car access. I've got some footage of doing a recovery under very benign conditions in Chichester somewhere ... I'll post it up once I've finished part three :)

I'll second that. My Coaster launch and recovery is straightforward single handed. Even in a cross wind, a line can be used to keep the boat aligned with the trailor; by standers have been more then happy to tend the line on a couple of occasions.

When I recovered from this trip, there wan't really an opportunity to use a line to hold her straight, nor was there anyone around to help. However, I managed to keep her straight by leaving the outboard chugging forward, pushing the boat against the trailer until I was able to get some tension on the trailer winch. I was quite impressed with myself!
