straight-up thank you, a buddy of mine had birthday + christmas plans derailed for his girls because he discovered his alternator died today, so I'm helping him replace it tomorrow thanks to this. did his power steering pump and reservoir a year ago, that belt tensioner is wicked strong...
Thank you kindly for this tutorial. I followed it with great success yesterday! I found, i had to hammer down this part/spacer at the bottom of new alternator. Otherwise, you will spend the whole day shoving the thing into its place to no avail. Best of luck, cheers!
Very well done video. You walked me through every step of the procedure. Fabulous when you tell me which wrench is next and where they are hidden. If not for your video, I would have pulled the radiator fans. The unexpected part was when my belt did not stay in place as needed and I could not find the belt routing sticker. I was saved when it came up on the next frame of your video.
As instructional videos go, this is super helpful. I love the little extras like resetting the codes on the computer and stereo. You didn't HAVE to show that, but it saved me going through another search. You definitely made this look easier than what I experienced, but I'm pretty sure that's mostly because you're just better at this stuff than I am. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for taking the time to share this video with us. It helped me deal with what looked to be impossible to remove, given the limited space. I have a 2005, but it was pretty much the same deal. I thought from your vid that first bolt just had to be loosened, but I found this was just under a high tension spring applying pressure on this belt. I was not prepared for the amount of leverage needed to back it off and still have a hand free to slip the belt off. Getting it all back on again was also a trick, but I managed and if fortunately worked out and solved my problem w/o having to loose my work rig for a day ro 2 at the Dealership.
Thank you so much for this video! After watching this video, I was able to get the job done in less than 2 hours. I wouldn't add or subtract anything. Your insight and the way you communicated it was perfect!
couple of extra thoughts: 1. use small zip ties to secure the belt to the pulleys so you don't have to trust your memory. 2. Remove the power steering reservoir at the top front of the engine to get the hose completely out of the way. 3. Use a short 14mm socket to release pulley tension otherwise you may be blocked from pushing it all the way. 4. Might as well use some dielectric grease on the power wire. 5. I already forgot, but I think the power wire clips are spread and not push in. But, again, not sure.
Thanks for this nicely done video. I have a 2004 and it was the same instructions. Without this I would not have been able to do this and it would have cost a lot more than doing it myself.
Thanks for the video, I usually do all my own work but lately I been taking a break from automotive mechanics until just recently so mickey mouse mechanic told my fiance that he would have to lift the truck to remove the alternator AND that she, my fiance had to get antifreeze because he had to remove the hose, i'm like this asshole, so I'm doing the work myself and this video just proved that it can be done from the top. thanks again for this very informative video brother.
Hey I fallowed your video and I’m having wonderful success but I am having a hard time installing my new alternator it seems that the tab on the alternator bracket moved a little bit this is causing my alternator not to fit any advise on moving that tab around
Gabriel Romero The bracket that the alternator mounts onto has a bushing that slide back-and-forth here is a link to a video on how to maneuver that bushing with a homemade to.th-cam.com/video/gLgK1JCiQmY/w-d-xo.html
I replaced the alternator and starter, both are working fine but now the AC does not blow cold air. Is there something that I could have done like knocking something loose that would cause the AC to stop working? Any connections I need to double check?
@3:45 don't let this video make you think it is that easy, since he cut away during the most difficult part, the physical removal. I have been working over an hour to get the alternator out, and still can't get it to come out. My AC hose may have less slack than his. I've chewed the hell out of the plastic timing belt cover and the tensioner pulley trying to wrestle it out. I may have to get it towed to a shop, or figure out how to remove the radiator fan. I wish I never started this project.
I just finished doing my alternator and had a hard time with the serpentine belt. DON'T USE A 14MM DEEP SOCKET for the tensioner. When I used the deep socket, it interfered with the motor mount and didn't give enough slack to loop the belt over the tensioner.
How to Automotive thank you, I was more concerned about the transmission hopefully I'll find a good used MDX with transmission that has been I'm servicing every 30,000 miles!
Brian, thank you very much, you saved me a few hundred dollars.
THANK YOU! You saved me so much money and my job too. I followed same instructions on the 2004 MDX and was successful!

Thanks for all your help!!! One thing though: I think the radio code is different than the security code. It can't use digits higher than 6.
Nice tip on finding the radio code ;-)
Ozzstar thank you 👍🏻 love how you got the family involved with your channel.
Mines in the owners manual

mr c AC compressor is underneath the alternator in may have gotten unplugged
Thanks will check it out.
when u use 14mm wrench yo push on tensioner--that won't loosen up its screw correct? Thanks
Nope, it’s reverse threaded to prevent that
Good video bro
Thank you!

entman7 nice 👍🏻 got to like that.
My car runs for around 5 mins then dies it seems to start every day then does this do you think this is the alternator
Great Video Thanks
OrphanStrike thank you!
Are those first generation MDX reliable in your opinion? thinking about purchasing one for high mileage driving
Joon kinloch I would say they are very reliable cars. Just do your homework when you purchase it and make sure it's in good shape.
How to Automotive thank you, I was more concerned about the transmission hopefully I'll find a good used MDX with transmission that has been I'm servicing every 30,000 miles!
Joon kinloch I find these transmissions to be decent when the proper maintenance is done for sure.
I’ve had multiple MDX’s around 2001 they always have gone above 300,000 miles. Very good cars
Thank you Sir!!!!
CRM6718 glad to help. Thank You for watching !
Thank you
Just did this...but now I hear a clicking when I try to start it. Starter maybe?
Two Thumbs Up.
thank You !!!
Where is the ground wire for the alternator??
Why isn't the radiator fan being removed???
Sooo much extra commentary I can't even understand wtf???racism
Next time you do this pull the oil dipstick. Maybe you won't break it them
