TH-cam has been throwing dynamic soaring videos at me for a week or so and I finally watched Spencer Lisenby’s talk about the physics, aerodynamics and evolution of dynamic soaring. I had never heard of this and now I can’t get enough. The extremes, edges, and highest levels of nearly any pursuit can be fascinating.
Interesting that a rather small leeward gully provides so much DS power. Of course, the windward slope soaring look great at this location, too, and the foliage a good landing pad.
This is new to me and it's interesting. Is there a motor on it (I am hard of hearing)? Seems not because it's a glider. How does it work? I am guessing that you have to angle it into the wind in a certain way to make it go fast?
no - he switched from slope soaring (windward side of the hill) to dynamic soaring (leeward side of the hill) here's a good video about dynamic soaring th-cam.com/video/nv7-YM4wno8/w-d-xo.html
Tail end dynamic soaring stance I got a lot of energy that way but I crashed 4 times Mine was EPP you Got a lot of Confidence to do tail veiw DS in with a me olded glider I wonder if that glider is still in 1 pc
Then he reverses directions so he's looking at it taill first... I don't know what's bigger that plane or his balls made of carbon fiber..... Tail end view is tough...
If the plane crashes into the building, the flyer will have to pay a lot for damages to the building. It is not good place to fly. Why does he choose such a olace to fly? Whee is this place?
Well, maybe if he got up to 200 mph or more and the wings broke off cleanly when the model was pointed uphill and upwind. But I think those buildings are further away than they look. I suspect an airplane flying over the town would be a greater hazard.
John this hobby is not for you. You should go walk your dog, keep it leashed otherwise it could damage someone and then you will have to pay a lot for damages

This is a cool sound :)
I am impressed by the landing skills.
Amazing flight from a human pilot!
It makes a nice sound, looks like it is relaxing to fly when going that "slow"
where was this, beautiful background.
Well done...very nice editing too.🤠

That sound O.O nice flight
That's Discovery Bay on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. That's where I learned to fly gliders back in the 90s.

Great flying, DS'ing and landing a skilful pilot
Ouch on the landing!
Nice video. Where is it?
Wow, that is impressive to see how wind power can be stransfered and amplified into the glider. Is it anywhere close to how tornadoes form?
Did the wind change direction in the second half of the video?

@@unihillboulder thanks
Used to fly RC planes when I was a kid and something random would always cause a disaster. But it wasn't at 200 mph thankfully.
Pretty cool analogy to how a cyclotron works. :)
You have the video listed under Comedy :) Which model is this? It looks similar to a Staufenbiel Hawk III
Kinetic 100. Don't know why it listed under Comedy and how to revise the settings. Funny!

Is this an ultralight kinetic? Wind seems very mild.
I think it's blowing pretty well, looking at the foliage.
I know drag sucks but boy does it sound cool!
Where is this? You have the video categorized under "comedy" which made me laugh, so you were correct afterall. Insane flying by the way.

Tailend ds, very brave
I took most of the dihedral out of my ship it's difficult to fly.
Brave!

Foreigners s opinion... I'm used to it
