    We got a bit lost in Stockholm Central as the local train came in at a different part of the station to the train we were leaving on. luckily a friendly Swede spotted our white sticks and came to the rescue.

    I rode X2000 from Stockholm to Copenhagen in 2012 and had a great time talking shop with the crew. Back in the 90's I was a conductor on X2000 Amtrak had imported from Sweden to test on the Northeast Corridor. The ride was extremely bumpy and jerky on NEC tracks but smooth as silk on Swedish rails. Acela adopted X2000 tilt system that never worked properly without fouling adjacent tracks at full tilt so it was eventually disengaged.

      Sam it’s been a while. I know your fully retired but we run full tilt all the time been doing it for years on the Acela, even over metro north. The old girl is getting up there but she is still running hot. The X2000 will always be the best tilting train.

    As you mention all the X2000 trains are being upgraded with a new interior and a new control system. I recently traveled on one of the refurbished trains on this same route and liked it very much. The only thing I do not approve of is the fact that the seating in the bistro has been removed and replaced with more passenger seats. I enjoyed working at the bar stools looking out the wind when traveling on the older model. Hope you get the chance to try the new trains soon. Also, at 18:20 you can see a statue of Nils Ericson, the man who was responsible for the design and construction of the Swedish state-owned railway system.

      @@NonstopEurotrip It was. A 2nd Class car, cafe car & driving trailer, were shipped to Sydney for demonstration & assessment (and publicity for the state government). While the driving trailer was on display at the Royal Easter Show, the other 2 cars were hitched between 2 XPT locos (similar to British HST) in which the ABB tilt sensing hardware had been installed and used for press and staff trips between Sydney and Moss Vale.

    X 2000 is an excellent train. I took it with my wife Copenhagen to Stockholm. Not all the journey was at high speed and, unusually for Sweden, the accessible toilet was in a state. Mind you it was probably clean when it left Stockholm as i'm not sure what the turn round time is in Copenhagen.

    Great trip. Even though I watched X2000 train's video many times, I've just realised this train only has one Power/Engine Car with two driver's Cabin at both end of the train. Feels like Push Pull Loco Haulage Train, but this is considered as EMU.

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are right 🙂

    • @wasmic5z
      @wasmic5z ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's usually considered an EMU because the locomotive isn't a "standard locomotive". It can't be used outside of the X2000s. So you can't strap the X2000 power car in front of a regular old train coach. However, the X2000s CAN be used in various formations. In fact, it is possible to run a train consisting only of a power car and a cab car! This is of course never used in passenger service, but it has been used for some test runs.
      It's similar with the TGVs, those also have powercars instead of distributed traction, but they're still considered EMUs because the trains are used in a fixed formation.

    11:28 the record train in 1993 was heavily modified. The top speed of the normal stock is 210km/h, but the legal top speed is 200km/h. Even with no limitation, with only one power head they would probobly not go faster than 230km/h or there about.

      @@NonstopEurotrip Its worth saying that even if the target speed was 275km/h, and the new record was 276km/h, effectively the test was a failure.
      The idea was that the soft boggier would absorb the hunting-oscillation from the wheels. That kind of worked, but in steed the soft boggier start vibrating. While they did manage to hit the target speed, it was deamd that the vibrations was to bad to consider the test successful.
      The the system was modified to Regina, but still they didn´t manage to hit the target in a reasonable way. Then they made the so called "green train" that hit a new record of 303km/h now with out the oscillation issue in 2008. The test was mostly successful, but it turned out the solution was to expensive. So they worked in a different direction with a lighter dampened version version 3 (was sold to the UK), and then cheaper to operate version 4. Version 4 was bought by competitor Siemens to implement in there ICE 4 trains. This is what allow ICE 4 to go 250+km/h with out neither damaging the rail nor oscillating
      So the result of the 1993 X2000 record was basically the ICE 4 train

    Last year, the 10:24 was cancelled due to track work, the 11:24 was 40 minutes late on departure and 70 minutes late on arrival, and I almost missed the ferry connection to Helsinki.

    They had a set of these X2000 tilt train carriages on test by NSW trainlink in the 1990s and unfortunately they were unsuccessful due to loading gauge issues and reliability issues from the terrible track conditions of NSW railways in Australia.
    You could consider some train journeys in Australia with a focus or regular passenger trains rather than tourist trains. For example you could do Queensland Rail Rockhampton Tilt Train or the Sprit of Queensland. Or NSW trainlink XPT services

    I'm a train driver here in Sweden and although I'm not currently qualified to drive the X2 sets I've driven them during training a few times. Very impressive trains for their age, only complaint from the driver's point of view is the slightly restricted view from the cab (compared to a regular locomotive) and the poor acceleration. In my opinion they could do well with a power car in each end, but of course, that's a matter of cost.

    Well familiar with Gothenburg and SJ. Would query your distances as the direct route is quoted as 455 km and known as the Western Main line. Not sure about the diversion you were on, but quite a few services travel by a longer route on a daily basis. Swedish rolling stock is built to a higher standard than most of the rest of Europe due to the extreme climatic conditions. Also the loading gauge is very generous and Swedish trains run on the left. The WML was electrified in 1926.

    Tried on it Copenhagen-Malmo, Malmo-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Alvesta, and Stockholm-Malmo(Direct back to Copenhagen fully booked). The train looks classic but the interior is outdated by a lot. The charger plug is not working in the Danish Territory. And sometimes the train could get you a little bit dizzy when tilting quickly. toilets are not guaranteed to be clean. But is a nice try on such a legacy train model.

      From my experience, the refurbishment fixes most of these. Don’t know about the charger plug in Denmark issue as it doesn’t operate there yet, but more and more of the running services are getting used with the new refurbished sets.

    Nice to see the X2000s going strong back in the land of my ancestors! Meanwhile Amtrak's Acela Express fleet is starting to be retired. Had Amtrak been able to order off the shelf X2000s, they'd have been ready a lot sooner and lasted a lot longer!

Always proud to see the two Pride flags 🏳️‍🌈 flying proudly in Göteborg. Meals enroute have been consistently great and onboard staff welcoming and friendly. 😊.

    If I’ve been to Gothenburg? Haha I live about 70km away from Gothenburg and much of my family on mum’s side are from Gothenburg. But despite living so close, I no longer visit the city very often, and when I do I normally drive due to poor accessibility at my local train station (I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user) and chronic pain that makes train travel rather painful. If I do take the train, it’s about 40 minutes to Gothenburg. When it comes to Gothenburg vs Stockholm, I much prefer Stockholm in many ways, though I wouldn’t want to live in either of the cities.
    I have lived in both Malmö and Copenhagen before for some years, but then moved back to my peaceful little hometown little over 11 years ago now.
    Big cities have their charm and convenience, but nothing beats the peacefulness and having everything nearby when living in a small town. In Malmö and Copenhagen I had to take a bus to get to a regular size grocery store (and not just a little corner shop), here in my town I have both the two bigger and the smaller grocery stores within 500 meters from home
    X2000 was my choice of train when I went home over some weekends while living in Copenhagen or Malmö, I often picked first class on the train as it was actually often less expensive than second class on the same train. It’s by far the most comfortable trains in Sweden even though the tilting can be a bit much if you’re prone to motion sickness.
    Since 2015 I’ve been going with MTRX when traveling to Stockholm though, but only because it’s much better price than SJ along with having almost on the minute the same travel time as X2000. MTRX is nowhere near as comfy seats though but oh well. SJ is just overpriced, which is sad… I’d often get both ways with MTRX for the same price or less as one way with SJ when I was traveling to Stockholm for meetings. Granted my tickets were paid for by the organization I was traveling for, but I still had to pay the tickets to begin with and then had that cost reimbursed to me by the organization, and I didn’t want to miss too much money during the time between the ticket purchase and the reimbursement (which would often be weeks)
