    Thank you so much my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to explain this process.

    You could have used the fan blade and clutch from a Ford Explorer 4.0, which would have given you more room between the fan and the engine as well as used up more of the available space inside the fan shroud. There's a few different fans people are swapping into the WJ.

    Thank you doing the same thing already replaced electric fan 3 times

      Yes, those electric fan relays are expensive as well and aftermarket relays do not work.

    This was a good explanation, thank you! Now with you flipping the fan blades, will that change the direction of the air flow?

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, when you flip the fan blades, the direction of air flow does not change. The angles of the blades are in the same direction.

    How did it affect your mileage? Mechanical fans draw alot of power, but then again they are surely more reliable, so it's worth it usually. Thanks for the video and info!

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have not seen any major difference in mileage (still get 16-18 mpg for local driving, 22+ mpg highway). I am glad that engine and transmission is cooler (these have a small transmission cooler next to the radiator). The transmission is shifting better after stuck in traffic (no jerks). I do feel a bit slow when accelerating on the highway than before. But the clutch fan's whooshing sounds like a big truck, which compensates for lower power :-).

      @@DIYWithIndi lol awesome. Well thank you for the reply, and my apologies for the late reply. I am about ready to put a mech fan and clutch on mine because it needs some extra cooling help. Plus mechanical is more reliable. :)

    Hey man I have a 2001 jeep cherokee wj and I don't have a mechanical fan clutch on it is this what you did exactly and hows it working today ?

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct, I have put out the links to the parts you can buy from Amazon. Should be an easy fix if you follow my video.

  • @ronnyjohnsen6247

    The fan is mounted backwards.

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if you reverse the blades, the air is still going to go the same direction. As I mention in the video, I could not put it the other way as it will hit the pulley. I put a link to the other plastic fan that you can use. That is a better option. I did not want to return this, so went with this option.

    I have both fans on and when the electric fan doesn't work the mechanical one doesn't really cool it efficiently, could I need a new fan clutch?

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your electric fan works, I would not worry about replacing the clutch fan. If the electric one dies, you can replace with a new clutch.

    • @themrrd12345
      @themrrd12345 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIYWithIndi my electric one wouldn't work until messing with the connector. Had a new connector spliced in and it works now. Takes a couple of seconds to a minute to kick in.

      I just installed a new electric fan on my 2002 jeep Cherokee and it’s so damn fast it vibrates the whole engine and then vibrates the inside of jeep. The hum and vibration is so loud I have to turn radio up and feel the steering wheel and seat shake. I have a clutch fan also. I’m gonna disconnect the new electric fan I just installed. It’s on some super super speed with ac on and feels like im in an airplane landing.

  • @ricardobarro9252
    @ricardobarro9252 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This install is going to push air forward not backward toward engine because blades run backward as it spins clockwise as u face it. When car moves it defeats natural flowing air through radiator.

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check the rotation of the water pump pulley, it is counter-clock rotation. The fan runs anti-clockwise when standing in front of the radiator. It pushes air towards the engine, not forward.

    • @cwalke32477
      @cwalke32477 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't push air forward. But the efficiency, of the fan, is greatly reduced. I'd be concerned in a hot climate.

      So are you suggesting I install it first and then remove it and record it for you while reinstalling it so it saves you 5 mins? This video was helpful to many others because I showed what would go wrong if done the other way.

    hi what about the gap you had at first still you have the gap when you turn the fan to the other side

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe I did not understand your question. As I showed at 8:28 the gap is there and will clear the pulley if you put the blades curving towards the front.

      I still have the electric fan and relay in there but it does not work anymore. See my other video if you want to fix that relay or electric fan - th-cam.com/video/KhUDJLgLtBQ/w-d-xo.html

    I went to a lot of relays until I relocated the relay on top of the radiator support by the hood rubber bumper it seems the last long it's just went out recently so now I replace the relay and I'm replacing the fan if it goes out sooner I'm going to put a clutch fan in

    You have the fan installed backwards. Not pulling air back toward the engine. Lol

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if I reverse the fan, it still rotates in the same direction and will push air towards the engine. Not ideal but that is what I had to do. There are other comments on this topic. Better to pick the other fan (plastic one) amzn.to/2Raorj1 listed in the video description.

    Hate to tell you bro but that is the wrong fan ..i ordered what you posted .......AND ITS WRONG .. THE FAN BLADES SHOULD FACE THE OPPOSITE WAY TO PULL MORE AIR AND YOU FLIPPED IT THE WRONG WAY the curve should face forward ... TAKE THIS VIDEO DOWN .. YOUR COSTING PEOPLE TIME AND MONEY WITH WRONG INFORMATION....NICE VIDEO THOUGH ..JUST WRONG EQUIPMENT FOR REPAIR.

    • @DIYWithIndi
      @DIYWithIndi  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This fan works even though the curve is facing the other way. I have been using it for 4 years now and it works fine. Alternatively, I have added the link to amzn.to/2Raorj1 which is a plastic fan. You can try that instead as some others have commented here.
