This song is about the heroin addiction and death of Andrew Wood, the frontman for Mother Love Bone. Andrew Wood was close with many grunge bands during that time (including Candlebox) and his tragic death was a harsh blow to them all. Mother Love Bone were a very popular band and were about to hit it big when Andrew died. They would have been huge and their 1 album that was released is excellent. It truly is a tragic story.
I love their music but I have to admit that whenever I seen them live ( admittedly on some kind of TV broadcast of some sort) they were horrible. Their Studio music was by far better than their live performance.
Candlebox emerged from the Seattle scene in the 90's, same as Nirvana... Pearl Jam... Alice In Chains... Soundgarden... Their debut album sold 4x platinum in the US (4 million copies) in 1993 thanks to MTV singles 'You' and 'Far behind'... However, there was a backlash in 1995 when they released their 2nd album 'Lucy'... People accused them of copying the grunge rock sound, so the album sold a half million copies... 3rd album 'Happy pills' sold less, and Candlebox broke up by 2000... They reunited in 2008 and recorded new music, but they were not as popular as before, unfortunately... Currently, only Kevin Martin (vocals) from the original band is still in Candlebox today.
There’s a girl I will always consider my sister, not by birth but where you feel close enough to someone to feel like family. And this was always one of her favorite songs. I bought a CD single of it for her as a gift. And the thing is… she was adopted. So once she told me that, I understood why she related to a lyric like “You left me far behind.”
Asia & BJ as others have said this song was written about the singer of the band Mother Love Bone. His name was Andrew Wood and he died of a heroin over dose. This happened right before the grunge scene really exploded. Members of Pearl Jam & Soundgarden formed a tribute called Temple Of The Dog. 2 big songs came from that collabaration - Hunger Strike and Say Hello To Heaven. Sadly just about all the singers from the Seattle grunge scene have passed away. Andrew Wood , Layne Staley , Chris Cornell. R. I. P. to those who are gone.
Great song. One of those that I don’t care what the songwriter wrote it about. Like other good songs, the lyrics are vague enough that you can apply the song to many things in your own life experience
Such a truly forgotten 90’s band (The song was marketed as a love song but, it was about addiction but, with any music you can take whatever road on the context (Candelbox follow up album Lucy is criminally overlooked as a band they were never really promoted properly by there label casual music fans might considering them a one hit wonder which is heartbreaking (They were a hybrid of indie, Alternative, Grunge and pure Rock & Roll
Yea! Great song. Important lyrics - written for the deceased lead singer of a Seattle band called Mother Love Bone, the predecessor to Pearl Jam. Very important history of the Seattle grunge scene of the ‘90s.
Was backstage for the Candle box/Flaming Lips show at the Atlanta Civic Center when this song was on the charts. My ex-bro-n-law was the lead electrician there. The whole backstage area wreaked of weed and bourbon. They saved this song for the encore and barely made it through it because they were so messed up.
Great song great band this guy is an incredible vocalist so thank you both so much brings back some nostalgia. I like girls videos. I’ve watched a few of them now if I had more time I’m at 60 year old grandma it stays with her three grandchildren while my son-in-law is deployed to help my daughter and him of course is in about nine months. I’ll have a little more time on my hands, but I really enjoy you all. Thank you.❤
Love Candelbox! This song is about someone w addiction and he tried but couldn’t help. They have some serious blues rock sounds. The song “The Rain” is amazing!
Wife here...This song was everywhere during the mid ninties...Love Love Love Candlebox..This always reminds me of a great gal pal who was going through a horrific time with her Husband at the height of this song's popularity...(This Song will always take me back to this place)..
Candlebox is one of those bands where when I hear this song in particular it immediately reminds me where I was when I first heard it and what the room smelled like. Crazy what the brain remembers
Check out Candlebox song called - “You”. It’s dynamic. It came out during a very hard time in personal life and it really hits emotionally. Great and underrated band.
YES... aw now ya done did it... lol they are 1 of my all time favorite bands! This album and their album "happy pills" are sooooo great. All their stuff is absolutely incredible! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍
Andrew Woods death affected so many artists in the grunge era. Music is therapeutic The album Temple of the Dog is dedicated to Brian and is a collaboration of musicians. Mother Love Bone is a must listen. Always loved Candlebox's debut album.
this song has gotten me though so many rough times when i thought i had no other choice. Although you love endlessly for your loved one weather it be a girlfriend mother etc. addition will take over the love, the life you have for any even yourself. i loove this song so much. i wish everyone could hear this song so many would relate. I hope you listened to this over and over till you get the point, addiction will take the best and most loved people and "put them in the ground". People that don't know addiction will say " its what will put you in the ground" "what you know" for so many know the loss. please listen to more grunge will take you to another level. wish more people understood the struggle the hold drugs have one people. hope you all are well. love and respect. happy new year. oh check out pearl jame they are a 90's band. xoxxo
One of the best grunge-type songs of the 90's. Actually, that entire album is great. I used to play this with my band and it always drew positive reactions, without failure. I know, killer guitar solo. Just a great song to listen to in a bar.
This song has a lot of weight up here in Washington. I still live a mile from the abandoned mansion that they filmed the video in. Sadly it was torn down years back. It’s a housing development now.
You should watch one of the documentaries about Andrew Wood, the man’s life and untimely death inspired some incredible songs from many different Seattle bands.
The most underrated band from the grunge era. They came in a little late in that scene and then the music style changed but they were one of the best in that scene
Almost lost my son to addiction. Mom committed suicide. Funny thing is , I’ve always been so happy to be here! I pray for everyone going through this struggle. 🙏
He wrote that song for a friend of his that was addicted to heroin and died from an overdose. His friend was the singer of Mother Love Bone and after he died they got a new singer snd became Pearl Jam. P
I remember my family treated me bad when I was in my Addiction, but I knew it was tough Love. They gave & gave & I kept taking. I Thanked God when I finally got arrested for possession. I knew that was the only way I was ever going to Detox. Been clean ever since, But it’s hard to get my people to trust me again. Someday….
This song is not about a girl. It's about a friend and local Seattle music legend (Andrew Wood) who succumbed to a heroin overdose before he really hit it big. Basically he would've come up with Pearl Jam if he'd lived and then we probably never would've even heard of Eddie Vedder. There's an entire album dedicated to Andrew Wood called TEMPLE OF THE DOG and it's worth listening to when you get around to it.
A great song off a solid album. I was hoping for more out of candle box tho. Anyhoo, you guys need to check out some Meatloaf songs. “For crying out loud” and “bat out of hell” are 2 good ones.

Chris Cornell did a tribute song as well for Andrew ...Say Hello to Heaven, another great song by Temple of the Dog.
Mother Love Bone went on to become Pearl Jam. I loved MLB.
Mother Love Bone was a phenominal band. Still listen to Apple at least once a week.
Their EP Shine is great, too.
The first line of the song got changed. It was originally "And Andy, I didn't mean to treat you bad"... got changed to "Now maybe"
YES! Show some love for Candlebox! They are underappreciated imo, soo good!
They are!
I agree
I love their music but I have to admit that whenever I seen them live ( admittedly on some kind of TV broadcast of some sort) they were horrible.
Their Studio music was by far better than their live performance.
@@steveh7108 You know they were an 80s synth new age band before they changed things up giving us this album.
@@neighborlyfiend1484 I did not know that🤔
Their debut self titled album, "Candlebox" is such a great record..just pure excellent rock n roll..
Saw Candlebox at the AZ State Fair back in high school. Brings back memories. "You" is another smash.

Candle box "You" is my top ten of all time.
great song!
Also, Cover Me
"Rain"
One of my favorite songs of all time!! Great band!!
Love, love love, this whole album! One of the most under-rated bands of the 90s!

...Lannigan. 😔 Vedder stands sorta solitary. Mark Arm still around.
♥ 90s grunge! The pain/emotion just drips from every note!
Candelbox "You" uncensored lyric video. You guys I think will love it. You just feel everything in his voice.
Self titled Candlebox's album is just great, The whole thing is.
Hell yeah Candlebox!💪🏽
Great song. One of them where the lyrics dont even matter.
Great song. One of those that I don’t care what the songwriter wrote it about. Like other good songs, the lyrics are vague enough that you can apply the song to many things in your own life experience

I lost my sister 8 years ago tomorrow....this song crushes me....keep up the great work guys!
CANDLEBOX "YOU" and "COVER ME" is a must if you are dipping your tow into the 90s rock
Candlebox is maybe the most underrated band from the 90s. They get forgotten, but they are so amazing.
90s don't show up on the radar a lot, but when they do this is in the mix. Full on jam.
The song was written about two friends that had overdosed on heroin
Yea! Great song. Important lyrics - written for the deceased lead singer of a Seattle band called Mother Love Bone, the predecessor to Pearl Jam. Very important history of the Seattle grunge scene of the ‘90s.
love this song
Candlebox breathe me in good song shows their versatility
My favorites from this album are "Blossom" "Cover Me" and "You". Awesome reaction guys.
Awesome song, great band!!

This song is great.... couldn't share the pain they watch you suffer..... brilliant

This song was so special to me and my friends back in the late 90's. Thanks for checking it out.
Early 90's Seattle grunge was just different. This whole album is so good.
Been on my play list for 25+ years.
Candlebox is one of those bands where when I hear this song in particular it immediately reminds me where I was when I first heard it and what the room smelled like. Crazy what the brain remembers
Candlebox was one of the first groups signed to Madonna's record label, Maverick. So underrated was this group
Wow! This takes me WAY BACK! Thanks!
Check out Candlebox song called - “You”. It’s dynamic. It came out during a very hard time in personal life and it really hits emotionally. Great and underrated band.
For me the whole cassette tape was a vibe! This band got me through some dark days ❤
This is an all time great…
I remember getting this CD from Columbia House. I was 16 and still in High School. Time flies.
One of my favorite songs from the early 90 grunge era.Awesome choice guys👍
RIP Andrew Wood. Song is about Andrew Wood lead singer of Mother love bone. After Wood died the made some changes and became Pearl Jam.

Such a great band! Please do "Cover Me".
My god Candlebox... another live show I went to and it was amazing. Also one of those songs they played on the radio every hour on the hour LOL
Andrew Woods death affected so many artists in the grunge era. Music is therapeutic The album Temple of the Dog is dedicated to Brian and is a collaboration of musicians. Mother Love Bone is a must listen. Always loved Candlebox's debut album.
This song and album are in my top 10! Got to see them live at the Sellersville theater in PA great show!
One of my favorite songs. Going to go see when they come out to Las Vegas in a couple of months
Their self titled first album, and Live Throwing Copper, were amazing then and still are
The 90’s had some great music
Just as good today as it was when it first came out. One of my all time favorite songs.
This is one of the deepest songs and really hits home for a lot of people...
My 16 year old son heard me listening to this song, and now it's his favorite 😀
The music and vocals are very good!
This was one of three tribute songs about Andrew Wood of the band Mother Love Bone, Chris Cornell was actually his roommate...dark lyrics
Candlebox is the 2nd most underrated rock band of the 90s. #1 is Blind Melon.

great debut album! it was real!
He wrote it about his friend that died
Blew the candles out!! 😂(Inside joke)
Great album, back to back
Whitney Houston is my favorite vocalist. Candlebox is one of my favorite bands.
Don’t bury him yet!
Damn. Y'all found another one of my favorites from back in the day. Hope y'all liked it. Good find 👍😎. 🇺🇸. ❤️🌎✌️
Great song. You not only hear but feel the pain in this man's voice as he sings about his friend that passed away
Hey can you do a reaction on the "You"...I love Candlebox... one of the best band of the 90s... 😎🤘
This song has a lot of weight up here in Washington. I still live a mile from the abandoned mansion that they filmed the video in. Sadly it was torn down years back. It’s a housing development now.

Excellent band❤❤❤❤
This was really their only hit but it's a song for the ages. Madonna signed them but they never really panned out. The video is pretty intense too.
King of New Orleans by Better Than Ezra is about heroin addiction too. One of the best songs of the '90s.
Almost lost my son to addiction. Mom committed suicide. Funny thing is , I’ve always been so happy to be here! I pray for everyone going through this struggle. 🙏
Giving you major big 🫂 hugs forever.
Wow!! You too had no idea what the song was about,...even with the lyrics
He wrote that song for a friend of his that was addicted to heroin and died from an overdose. His friend was the singer of Mother Love Bone and after he died they got a new singer snd became Pearl Jam. P

Agree with your head movement bj…….great jam driving down the road.
I really loved listening Candlebox, great songs.
"You" is a great Candlebox tune. I like it even more than "Far Behind"
One of my favorite bands, try “10,000 Horses” off their Happy Pills album.
You, Cover Me and my favorite Blossom are where it's at.
Very underrated band. Chck out Mother Love Bone too. Great band
beautiful riff
I used to sneak into their shows when I was 15
This song hits way different at 52 ✌🏼
RIP Andrew Wood!!!!! 😢 this song is about the death of Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone….he struggled with a drug addiction and it cost him his life
great band for sure, unrelated but kinda in a way related note...there's gonna be a Clerks 3 soon
This song is not about a girl. It's about a friend and local Seattle music legend (Andrew Wood) who succumbed to a heroin overdose before he really hit it big. Great song
I haven't heard this in 15 years, I understand now. This was a part of his grieving process. Brush the leaves back off the gravestone
This song is what I listen to in remembrance of my oldest son who died 7/3/2016 to an overdose. It’s like they wrote it for him.
A great song off a solid album. I was hoping for more out of candle box tho.
Anyhoo, you guys need to check out some Meatloaf songs. “For crying out loud” and “bat out of hell” are 2 good ones.
Great tune
Great reaction! You should try Staind
"So far away"
"Tangled up in you"
You is a better song. 🔥
Great Band but they really had that one great CD & then not so good after. "Rain" is a great song from that same CD awesome base guitar playing
Their song " You " is better IMO. They came out of seattle but never got the love that seattles favorite sons "Queensryche " did.
