Replaced head gasket in BF8A today. A couple tips: no need to remove cam-shaft pulley. Be sure to replace t-stat if ever pulling intake manifold. Mine was blowing white after wfo run.
Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know the torque specs/ pattern for the head bolts. Have this same motor , had a problem with no water flow. Thank you
I've got a question about the video, which was really helpful. Thank you. I have the same outboard with a clogged oil pick up tube screen. Previous owner neglected it. 1-remove lower unit 2-remove exhaust flange thing 3- remove all engine mounting bolts 4- clean tube Does this sound reasonable?
What year is your Honda engine. I have a 1996 getting water into the oil sump also. No white smoke or sputtering runs perfect but oil get merky. Thanks great video btw
This is a 2005. I would start w/ making sure your intake manifold gaskets are in great shape. Then test it after that. Going all the way to the oil fill gasket is where the big work is, and you may save time & solve w/ just the manifold gasket. Good luck
I have an oil leak in a 86 honda 5 hp. The leak is coming from engine block gasket. Where the oil pan meets the block. Any suggestions? I have never tackled such a project. But I have worked on many cars and trucks. I just bought the service manual. I love this motor. Bought it new and it starts and runs great. Just has an annoying slow oil leak that leaks into the housing and out through a weep hole. Leaving an oil sheen on the water. Again the leak is very slow. Like maybe a teaspoon over a couple months. Thanks for any helpful comments
@@IFish4Tuna no water in oil. / just a small oil leak around the gasket. Letting oil leak out to the exterior of engine. And it collects in the bottom of the engine cowling ( or housing). Eventually leaking out a weep hole in the bottom
@@IFish4Tuna it appears I will have to remove oil pan to replace this gasket. Which is much more involved than removing an oil pan from a car. Lol. Hoping to find a video of this. But surprisingly there are no videos on the honda 5 hp ( BF50S)
Hey man thanks for the video been looking all over for one for a while. I am having the same issue with mine also getting ready to tear into it soon. I can't find a serial number on mine and I'm not sure the year but it seems to be the same as yours. What year is that
Did you ever figure it out? Also, if you happened to capture any footage of the procedure to change the impeller, I'd be forever grateful if you'd post that.
I can’t remember where I saw it but someone on a video regarding thermostats was saying that if it fails in the open position (or if you choose to run without one installed) that the motor runs too cool and condensation can (eventually?) introduce water into the oil.
Mine just has water in the oil. I drained it and put new oil in and ran for 1/2 hour per the manual and drained again and came out with water in the oil. It doesn't have white smoke coming out. Runs great. Not sure what's wrong. Any suggestion?

Hi it's not a lot of detail, but sounds reasonable. Good luck.

Does anyone have a Part Number for the Metal replacement Oil body Cover for the BF100A?

Nice video, thanks for putting it up. Just for future reference please do not pry on the head with a screwdriver. Tap the outside with a mallet.

Probably a Head gasket failure between water cooling jacket and oil passage.
