    My great grandmothers house has an elevator going from the dining room to the second-floor bedroom. This elevator was installed about 25 years ago, and it is 100% fail safe. It gets an inspection every year. It worked out very well for my great grandmother who had a lot of problems with the stairs. This was a very quick and convenient option for her.

    Why didn’t they install a mechanism to automatically open the door? Seems like an obvious inconvenience for someone with reduced mobility...

    All enclosed elevators and lifts should have a Phone or two way communication inside. The lifts with Plexiglass walls should also have power ventilation when temps get above 80 degrees it automatically turns on. Many customers are claustrophobic and like the openness of the Vertical lifts.

    My Aunt had an elevator installed in her home. She has a large 2 story, my Uncle passed away a few years ago, so when she had a fall coming down the stairs she had one installed. I'm so happy we live in a time where we have technology to assist those to remain independent.

    As a self employed technician, this video was very interesting. I was hoping to see more technical stuff like the safety and interlocks. What keeps the elevator from free falling if some component fails? Is there an automatic braking system?

    • @danielsegreti4475

      This unit is a Savaria V1504. To stop the lift from falling there are slack chain switches that when engaged the lift will stop.

    Up here in New Brunswick Canada any kind of lifting device has to be inspected yearly and they charge quite a hefty price to do ,so some places like Legions that had them installed have shut them down, just because of the inspection fees of over $ 500 CDN.

      Usually on the cheaper projects, the prices will be around the same regardless of region. With something like this, I'd imagine the price would vary drastically for this job based on region, due to local codes, pricing by local companies, pricing of the materials locally, etc.

    My school had an older model just like this. And if someone pulls the door while you're in it, the life won't move until they let go. So a trip that could take 30 seconds usually would take about 3 minutes. From ground to first.

      Lock washers are worse then useless. Once flattened out the do nothing and if they break the bolt is suddenly lose. If you need to secure a bolt thread locker is a much better solution.

    • @oscarmuffin4322
      @oscarmuffin4322 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What the other guy says. Lock washers are generally considered to be useless. Locknuts or use of thread locker is a much better way. Hell, if you're that bothered you could use lockwire or a castle nut and cotter pin.

    How did a guy in a wheel chair afford that elevator?

      Someone in a wheel chair can still work, for example, as a software engineer which is paid very well.

      They aren't that expensive if you provide the labor to enclose the elevator too. I'd still have someone else install the hydraulics.
