Rey Valera, an iconic figure, is known for his famous songs that are still being sung in videokaraoke. Among his vast repertoire, my favorite song of his is "Malayo Pa ang Umaga". This particular song holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of the difficult time I had searching for a job in the 1990s. During those days, I would visit the Export Processing Zones in Cavite in hopes of finding employment. Alongside my cousin, we would sing this song while on job hunts. However, my cousin eventually found a job, leaving me as the sole wanderer in EPZA, continually singing the song as tears streamed down my face. Even to this day, whenever I hear "Malayo Pa ang Umaga", it stirs up strong emotions within me, reminding me of the ambitions and dreams I still hold onto.
