Manual for cleaning the Gaggia Classic Espresso Machine:
For cleaning your Gaggia Classic, you gonna need the following things:
    - A backflush disc
    - A Allen wrench
    - A screwdriver
    - A brush
    - A tweezer
    - Two big bowls
    - Coffee Machine Cleaner
Step 1: Get the water tank out of your Gaggia Classic and put the espresso machine onto its back. Take your screwdriver and unloose the small screw in the coffee strainer. Put the coffee strainer aside.
Step 2: Now take out your Allen wrench and unloose the two screws which were hidden under the coffee strainer. Take out the small plate and put it aside.
Step 3: Put a teaspoon of coffee machine cleaner into one of the bowls, add boiling water and put all parts you just unloosed into the water to clean it.
Step 4: Take the brush and clean the part where the small plate was. Put the Gaggia Classic back up again, put the water tank back again and add some water.
Step 5: Now take the backflush disc and set it into the brewing group (where you normally put your coffee in). Add some coffee machine cleaner into the backflush disc and some boiling water. Put the brewing group back into the Gaggia Classic.
Step 6: Now switch on the Gaggia, wait until the right light is on and then press the button - like you would make an espresso. Wait 10 seconds until you switch of the Gaggia Classic again. Repeat 5-6 times.
Step 7: Get out the brewing group and clean it under water. Get it back again into the machine and now flush it again with clear water.
Step 8: Get out the brewing group again. Get your second bowl, add some coffee machine cleaner, add some boiling water and put all parts of your brewing groups separately in there (inkl. the filter basket). Let it clean.
Step 9: Now take out the water tank again and put it back onto the espresso machine. Take your tweezer and take out the black rubber ring, which you will see. Clear it under water (no coffee machine cleaner needed).
Step 9: Now clean all the different parts of the Gaggia Classic under clear water to get rid of the coffee machine cleaner. Put everything back together.
Step 10: Put the Gaggia back up again, put the water tank back again and add some water. Flush the machine again with clear water for the last time.
    Now enjoy your espresso.
I hope you liked my video "How to clean your Gaggia Classic Espresso Machine". If you did, please give me a thumbs up, if you didn't, please leave a comment why.

Really loved the dual angles in the video. I'd avoid putting the plastic bit (used for flow control) into the cafiza cleaner as the acid can damage the plastic, in the same way as it damages the rubber o-ring.

Should also add descaling along with back flushing & group head cleaning to the schedule. Descaling should be done approx every 3 months or so to prevent scale build up inside the boiler. Nice video Chis. The Gaggia with non pressurized basket can make excellent espresso if a good grinder is used. Cheers!

    • @upscalebohemian5372
      @upscalebohemian5372 4 ปีที่แล้ว

If it's clogged you need to descale it. Cleaning is basically a strong detergent. For hard water deposits inside the machine that clog it you want to use a product like Urnex Dezcal. It's cheapest to buy in the 900 g bottle, not the packets.

    • @PhillipGramly

we don't have hard water, so i do a descaling about every 4-6 weeks (i have a sense of whether i have used my machine heavily or not since the last descaling.) i was just running citric acid dissolved in water thru the boiler and steamer and soaking the baskets in the solution too. i put the solution in the water tank and run water thru the group for a minute or so and run it thru the steam wand for a minute or so (doesn't have to be at steam temp) and then shut it off and just let it sit for ~10 minutes. After the soak, i run the whole tank thru, alternating b/w the group and the steamer. then i clean the water tank and put fresh water in it and run that whole tank thru, again alternating b/w group and steamer. Then finally put fresh water in and it's ready to go.
But, i found that i do need to regularly remove the disperser and clean it too. also, i just replaced the group gasket after 3 years - that was too long - should have replaced it a year ago if not sooner. that needs to get into my regular maintenance too.
