I don't think I've ever read in the Security+ or CISSP "we don't actually send our public key". In the examples shown it's often the opposite! Very misleading of them. Thanks for the clear explanation.

You did a good job of explaining all this. The only minor flaw is that typically a normal everyday user like Alice wouldn't go to a CA to get a certificate, but a business entity (e.g. the bank) would.

Amazong video with crystal clear explanations. Thank you for this! I was looking into this to learn about Certificate pinning! So that the client always expects data from a single source. This introduces problems of not being able to rotate certificates regularly for clients like Mobile Apps where it would demand an update! Is public key pinning and certificate pinning the same? Can you do a video on pinning?
Glad it was helpful! I have added certificate pinning to the list of videos I'll work on. Good idea! You're right, certificate pinning can introduce some challenges with certificate rotation. Public key pinning and certificate pinning are essentially the same thing. A certificate contains a public key - allowing use to verify the owner of a public key. We pin a certificate so that we are pinning the public key it contains. Fundamentally, it is the public key that we want to pin. Hope that helps! I'll create a video :)
