You are so honest when talking about your career and your cloth before. I felt touched. Thank you for sharing the thoughts! It gave me some courage to be better.
I have my sets of jewelry (earrings & necklace plus a bracelet) in ziplock bags. These are sorted by colors into clear tubs with a label. When I need a certain color of jewelry, I just pull it off my shelf and match to my outfit. Great for traveling too! When finished wearing I just keep a cleaning cloth in each bin to wipe each piece and replace back into the ziplock bag. Keeps me organized!
I would encourage people who are doing this - to go into the shops and try on the clothes there if you can, when you are doing this part of your fashion journey. You can go through way more clothes with way less purchase. I know that in these times, its safer to do things online, but if you can do it safely - go in with a friend you can trust and try things on. Also respectfully, there's a thing about having too much to choose from, actually limits your choice more than expands it because the choices can be become overwhelming. (There's been studies on it). So another idea is to do a one in/one out when you've come to a place where you have "enough" clothes in your home (whatever enough is). Not suggesting a minimalist wardrobe here - its more about working out how much you can cope with, as you work out what you prefer to wear.
Thanks for the video! I grew up in a family that didn't have a lot of money and am very frugal. I tend to buy things that are cheap (clearance items) and end up not being happy with them. Am I really saving money if I never wear it? I am trying to be more picky and spend a little more to get things I love, but it's a struggle. One trick I learned from a blogger was to turn all your hangers around and turn them back when you wear an item. Go through your closet after a month and see how many things you actually wore. This is very enlightening and may help you decide what to get rid of.
I think you have a great outlook and the best thing is that your wardrobe works for you! Capsule wardrobe didn't work for me, but I do have a very small comfy wardrobe that works for me.
e one thing that organizing & trying on clothes from the closet requires is TIME! I have been working in a hospital the last 6 years & wearing scrubs every day. I enjoyed getting Stitch Fixxes, but soon realized my closet is overflowing. Started shifting seasonal things into an empty closet from my boys' room. Needless to say, I now have 2 closets that need organizing!! Cancelled Stitch Fixx because it was just building up in my closets. Have gone through briefly & donated quite a few trunk loads, shoes included. Still have too much. I don't think I could do a capsule 30 piece wardrobe, but I might like to try. Many things are "guilty clutter" I've paid too much for or am waiting to lose 5 lbs to fit in. Thank you for your help to ask those questions to determine whether it should stay in my closet or go.
Love this video! I also bought items to make a few outfits when I got my first adult job as an engineer. And I’m working towards buying pieces that I love instead of just having lots of clothes to choose from.
Great tips. I’m really fussy about how my clothes fit etc. I hate labels in them & cut them out if there are any. I’m not a follower of fashion. I just wear what I feel comfortable in. Sometimes if my feet are cold I’ll even wear socks with sandals.😀 I’m the UK & buy most of my clothes from M&S/Marks & Spencer’s as they are great quality, can be tumble dried & last a long time. Some people in the UK buy their clothes from a shop called Primark. I don’t like their quality. As a Latter-Day-Saint/Mormon I often struggle to find items that are church standard, as a lot of t.shirts are v necked & skirts & shorts are too short. I only have bright colours in my wardrobe, such as red, yellow & pink. The only darker items I have are navy trousers. It’s funny with the different words in the UK & US. In the UK a wardrobe is something we put clothes into, rather than a closet.
I love this video. I get all the wardrobe systems and how they work, but I would never use them. I love tons of different colors and styles and have a good idea of what looks good on me. I also love, love, love to stand out! In my mind, capsule wardrobes are the pieces you pick out to work together when packing to travel. I couldn't limit myself like that on the regular. Though, when I became disabled one of the first things I did was get rid of all but one pair of pants. I am a skirt and dress girl all the way and was thrilled that I will likely not have to wear pants for work ever again. I got some knit tights and 2 pair of leggings for under dresses in the winter. I actually have a secondary closet where I put stuff that doesn't currently fit or I'm trying to decide if I still like. The nice thing there is that when our clothing closet puts out a "we need plus size women's clothes" I can just go to that closet and decide someone else needs those items more than I do. Because of my disability my activity levels, and therefore my weight, fluctuate, so I do actually go among about three different sizes. Since I change my hair color at least once a year, a top that doesn't look great with pink hair might look amazing with green. I refuse to get rid of the nice stuff I haven't worn in ages because I get invited to benefits and fundraisers all the time and sometimes I can actually attend. I don't want to have to go buy a new fancy dress when I already have a few I love. Especially since I never know till day of whether I'll be able to go. Oh, As for jewelry and accessories, I have an extensive collection because I have always been fascinated with pretties. Now I make my own, so I can customize stuff for a particular outfit, if I want. I know I have more clothes than I need and a lot more than most people, but that's not where I'm going to do much decluttering. I feel like I have cultivated my collection carefully, donating what I don't care for right away. It's just really refreshing to hear an organization guru come right out and say it's okay not to have a minimal wardrobe!
I totally identify with not wanting to be noticed. My closet needs a major overhaul, and you have inspired me to try. Great video! Thanks, Laura. D in NJ
Thanks! This was helpful. And I just have to say, I love watching your videos. You're just so adorable. I feel like I'm having a conversation with my sister.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work. I sort my stuff by color and type. Not sure if that is good idea but have been doing it for years and it works for me.
I agree about capsule wardrobe. I kept amount of clothes to fit closet. Also, If there is not a hanger available, I must get rid of something. I like patterns and colors. Just black tan and grey is too boring.
Actually Cracker Barrel has some really cute earrings and jewelry, scarves, etc. that aren't expensive. I've gotten more complements on earrings I bought there than many other places.
Love this video! If you have a TJ Maxx nearby, their jewelry and handbags, etc. are the best value. Much nicer than the less expensive stores, often real silver/gold-filled and usually $15-20.

I actually hang my clothes by outfit. I like it best when I hang jewelry with the outfits too.
I like to do this when I pick out my outfits for the week. Most of my clothes are stored by type, color or pattern & season.

Thanks - and yes, I do think it is definitely okay not to have a minimal wardrobe!
I totally identify with not wanting to be noticed. My closet needs a major overhaul, and you have inspired me to try. Great video! Thanks, Laura. D in NJ
Loved this one! I love your closet! I always am impressed by your choice of clothing! I need to LOVE every item. I am working on it!
I love your fashion style.
I think the first person with capsule wardrobe was “The Emperor …New. Clothes”
Thanks! This was helpful. And I just have to say, I love watching your videos. You're just so adorable. I feel like I'm having a conversation with my sister.
Very good video ! It’s inspired me to shop for things I REALLY love to wear.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work. I sort my stuff by color and type. Not sure if that is good idea but have been doing it for years and it works for me.
Then I sort those for spring/summer & fall/winter. Works for me!
@@medleyl1970 good idea!
do you have or can you make a video on closet organization tips??
I agree about capsule wardrobe. I kept amount of clothes to fit closet. Also, If there is not a hanger available, I must get rid of something. I like patterns and colors. Just black tan and grey is too boring.

Cracker Barrel does have some very unique jewelry - I had forgotten about that!!
Love this video! If you have a TJ Maxx nearby, their jewelry and handbags, etc. are the best value. Much nicer than the less expensive stores, often real silver/gold-filled and usually $15-20.
Thanks for sharing!!
Great tips! Thank you!
What a great video Laura! Thanks so much for motivating me to go through my closet & only have what fits me or makes me feel good today 😘
Love stitch fix
Me too!
Loved this!
I don't have many clothes, and I don't really like most of the ones I have. But sometimes returning stuff is a pain! Help!
Great video!
Really like this video :)
A color and/or body type analysis (done by a pro stylist) might help you avoid mistakes and save a lot of time/money. 💸
Laura smith I love your smile
