It's really all about which you encounter first. I think people who never played the fan translation may end up prefering the official ones because they got used to them first. I gues we are lucky that the first game was official from the start or we would be dealing with double the new names to get used to.

The only localised name that I agree with is the one they gave to Nicole Swift, that being Tabitha Lloyd. I personally don't know how to feel about the other translated names revealed thus far.
Honestly Chester Knight is more on the nose with the chess motif. But I think it fits his personality a bit better. I think that Chester is a more abrasive name than Horace. And Knight/Knightly is an abrasive guy, so it fits
That's easy to do now when the game isn't out. But once its out and a whole bunch of new people become acquainted with the new names, discussions will become very messy for a time. Especially since newer players will have no reason to play the fan translation.
