What is a widower called in Luhya?
@@ambalelionel5506 I haven't interacted with that vocabulary so much. Although a widow is referred to as "Mama Mulekhwa"
You right a widow is Mulekhwa but a widower seems to have no Luhya term so far
Ooh I know why! It's because there was no widower in traditional Luhya. Hehe. When your wife dies, you remarry like almost immediately. In fact you're given a new wife on the burial day in some cases.
Yes that's it now you right
Good work siz, keep it up. Try compaire luhya of Kenya and the Zulu of South Africa. Its amazing.
You’re write cuz Ingwe in Zulu means leopard and luhya too
Especially Maragoli lingo.
My cousin got married to a Zulu girl and she has mastered 70% of Luyha (isukha) because of the similarities
This is so lovely. I am a Marachi, a Nambenjere, to be specific. You did a perfect job. I am watching you for the first time and I am now your fun. Well done my sister 🎉🎉
How nice to have a Marachi sister on board. I am so happy that you are A nambengere🥰. Thank you for coming. My day is made
Old luyia was more closer:
6=tsisasaba
7=musafu
9=tsienda
Luganda was among the 24 original luyia sub tribes.
I have heard tsisasaba among the kisa. I don't know whether they still use it. Some Samias use musafu
No😂😂 Baganda were never a Luyia sub tribe, historical Luhya sub tribes in Uganda stop in the East near the border of Luhya land Kenya
Kikuyu two is igiri. The numbers 2,3,4,5, 9 and 10 are pretty universal in all Bantu languages and accounting for sound change are instantly recognizable. One and zero seem the most different. Kenyan Bantu languages also seem to copy Swahili for some numbers, which are taken from Arabic.
You did so well bravooooo👏👏
Thank you😊
This was more like lugweri language in Uganda but again all of these languages are similar or something it’s just a dialect
Well done lady, I need even more since I am a Muganda dating a Luhya lady.
Good job!
Thank you Juma
You needed to compare Luhya with Eastern Languages mainly (Lumasaaba - Gishu). I think the Gishu or Samia even have your name Nekesa
Number one in lusoga is ndala..lusoga is one of the biggest ethnic groups in Uganda..again words like mutwe, yafanga, omulamu, uva..these words and many are found in luhya..I know because I'm half musoga and half kikuyu
I have a friend who is a Soga and she has told me that severally. So interesting. Does Kikuyu share some words with Soga?
Oh thanks for the question. All Bantus have words that are similar and Kikuyu is no exception. Mutwe for instance means head in Kikuyu, lusoga and other luhya tribes.
I am a muganda and munyoro and I love basoga and bamasaba❤️ greetings
The way arranged oneself for photo then the blue screen just covered up all!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Luhyas of Uganda are the Bagisu of Mbale.
Good work madam. Keep up. Except for 6 in luhya which is khasasaba
Khasasaba yes. We aslo say sita.
Thank You. Webale Nnyo!
Webale mukwano wange. I hope I got that right😄
@luhyalanguageandculture it's gwange😂 you soon getting them all right
@@rappermokas8434 oops! Gwange not kwange. Now I won't get it wrong next time😀
You pronounced the Luganda numbers well I myself have been learning Luganda for months.
Wow! Thank you for the ranking. What is your proficiency level in speaking Luganda?
I'm pretty good at Luganda now because I take notes and I practice the pronunciations. I still have a lot to learn of course but this is one language I haven't given up on. Side note: Marachi does have similarities with Luganda as you said.
@@LordMarkieMark I agree, writing down and practicing does help a lot when it comes to learning a new language. And it becomes more manageable when you live among the people who speak that language
I remember i was i kakamega to broadcast CECAFA in 2017, while in a restaurant, i said something in luganda and this lady trasilated what I said, it surprised me, i never thought there was a language similar to luganda in kenya, i always thought the Tanzanians were closer to uganda than the kenyans, in kagera people speak real luganda though and eat the same food as the baganda.
This comes as a surprise to me for sure! I had no idea that there is a section of Tanzanians who speak Luganda. Indeed all these language are more similar than different. I should do more research on that. Sounds more interesting.
@@luhyalanguageandculturekaribu ukerewe na kagera Tanzania uone Luganda inavyofanana na kikerewe na haya tribes
@michaelobunde753 It's a must check out. That sounds like an interesting point of language comparison. I'm impressed at how language is so interconnected
@michaelobunde753 fascinating. I would love to understand how Luos of Kenya and those of Tanzanian are similar or different
I'm New sister to your channel I'm a luhya kabras
Alafu you talk about luhya like its a mixture of several language but we are actually the same tribe. All luhyas in Kakamega understand each othere, the only alittle different luhya is Bukusu and Maragori. All luhyas in Kakamega count the like how you are counting in Marachi. Try say luhya othere than being spacific to your subtribe.
I'm tiriki i completely don't understand kabaras, bukusu.
Can you do learn olumarachi videos ?🙏🏾
Cleaophas, Could you please rephrase your question. I didn’t get it clearly. Coz this channel is made up of 99% Lumarachi videos as I teach the Marachi I speak. Maybe you could come explain more.
The language lessons are great @@luhyalanguageandculture
You could try bukusu n gisu it could much better
Had never thought of guys. What a brilliant idea. I’m on it! Thank you.

Thank you, Bwire. It's good to see you here again
@@luhyalanguageandculture Currently, in Busia or Uganda?
@@johnbwire7570 I didn't get your question well
are you currently in Busia or Uganda?
@@johnbwire7570 Oooh you meant that! No, I'm not. I mentioned in the video that I am in Uganda because I was tackling Luganda
Thank u for the good work, bt the pronunciation is kinda off, and our lunguage the rome matters, forexample, e yo' mwenda not eyomwenda, e ye kkumi, try reading em separately
Thank you, Edward. I'm surely learning. I so much appreciate your keenness and willingness to correct.
Number 6 in Samia is chisasaba
Number one in Luhya ndala is the same pronunciation in lusoga of Uganda.
Maragoli
One-ndara
Two-ziviri/tsiviri.
Three-zivaga/tsivaga.
Four-zine/tsine.
Five-zitano/tsitano..
I love Uganda ❤ sounds good
U only got one right in tonation 6 mukaaga, and eyokusatu otherwise gd trial for luganda
Thank you for your honest rating. I am surprised at how people actually put incorrect pronunciations out here. All the Luganda words I spoke on this video, I practised with Luganda channels and websites then recorded this video to test myself. I am glad to know better.
@@luhyalanguageandculturecan I help you out with learning luganda if you don't mind and you don't have to pay me anything I just love teaching other people my language
@@rappermokas8434 I would love that very much
Ndala mean another
Which language specifically. I love learning 😊
😅😅😅😅 in our language ndala mean another one
@@kjtkalungujuniortalented8778 That's exciting to know the diversity
Actually you spoke luganda very well
❤❤❤❤ omwana wefwe❤❤❤
Buntu language is the same because in kirundi eight :umunani That the reson why afican we are the same
Sita, saba are Arabic words not Bantu.
In luganda Ndala means - another one
That is so interesting
Luhya is really like Uganda. Even the English accent is almost the same😂
You have attention to detail 🤣
You got it wrong , 6, 7 and 9 your said Swahili words not luhya get your grandparents, or old people will teach you, 9 is shienda ,6 is khasasaba and 7 forgot
Thanks for your correction. Unfortunately, maybe you're new to this channel, and I understand. On this channel, I teach the Luhya I have spoken since childhood. I do not focus on indigenous Luhya because I cannot access it, and that doesn't stop me from sharing what I know already. So, I have never used the words Shienda and Khasasaba my whole life, yet I grew up in the village. I have never heard people in my village use it either. Also, Luhya subtribes are many. Which one are you talking about? But of course, I understand your point of view.
@luhyalanguageandculture I know you have never used those words, but to be sincere with you and luhyas in general, we use swahili alot hence mix the two , but ask around, a Marama and a Marachi we only differ when sounding names with D and T , Marachi will have D sound while we Marama use T
@@alukweKopite I understand where you're coming from. And If I had reasoned like that, I would never have begun this channel. Truth, is there is a lot of content missing on this channel because of that. But I got be honest with myself, not knowing these vocabularies can't stop me from teaching people at least what I know. Language interference is true and it's not going anywhere. Look around on the Internet and show me a book or an article or even a video where someone is teaching us indigenous Luhya. Nobody. So I decided, I won't sit back and wait just because I don't speak Luhya like my grandfather. Or because I can't afford money to pay a old person in the village to teach me the indigenous Luhya. All these resources are costly to get. But what isn't costly is my own spoken Luhya that I've grown up hearing people speak in my community. As I know, one day, will also be regarded indigenous. Thank you, for bringing up this topic. It's a difficult conversation but people can't avoid it altogether.
@luhyalanguageandculture congratulations for starting the channel, And teaching people Luhya , but most luhyas lost their original language , nowadays we have a hybrid , congratulations and keep up 👏 , great work,
"Lekha Khusinyikha bwan'gubwan'gu"
These all are bantus...there is no any different
Yes they are Bantus. But there are a few differences that I enjoy bringing out. Thanks for your commentary.
Very far apart, the bantu thing is a scam, very far apart, i think it's bantus who were building the tower of babel, and God scattered them and their language
Your sense of humour is on a whole new level 😄
