- On this episode of Escape!, Josh McDermitt, Alison Haislip, Amber Benson, and Dan Casey are all convicts trying to escape prison in the 1930s. Can they get out in time?
We’ve locked celebrities in a room together and thrown a bunch of puzzles and riddles at them to see if they can free themselves in under a half hour. Janet Varney hosts as we bring the escape room phenomenon to the screen.

Definitely the best episode so far. Dividing up the players like this and forcing each of them to find/solve stuff, communicate and cooperate really helps each person have their moment and offsets the quarterback problem where one person takes charge and just tells everybody else what to do.
thepudgyninja my first escape room was a ground of 12 people separated into 4 rooms. The communication and teamwork aspect was really great.
I’ve never heard of it called the quarterback problem
I’d like to know names for other escape room problems
There’s an escape room type show that rooster teeth is showing called weird place that had a separation communication type puzzle
The group was split in two
One group had a light board with a display that asked for a particular combination of numbers
The lights on the light board were numbered
They also had a microphone device
In another room, the other group had the receiver for that microphone, directions for the combinations, and buttons to go along with the lights
The idea was, group a could talk to group b but group b couldn’t talk back
Group b had the information but needed to find a way to relay it to group A
Also
As a punishment
A loud honking noise played in group B’s room when group A made a mistake on the code
The puzzle at 19:55, "Always gets the last word", so last word from each quote -> "Hang sheet from window"
Roman Numeral 1 was Eddie, so the first Phrase was "Eddie always gets the last word."

so they just need to shout out the clue and automatically gets 5 extra minutes?

no, all of those worked together as a single hint, and so they had to hang a sheet from a window.
I'd pay good money to see the cast of Prison Break attempt an escape room like this...

Also, one without a solution.
Giving the 'extra time' clues for the viewer to figure out was a good addition. It would have been cool to know what would have happened if they got that clue.
If they solve that clue, they get more time...5 minutes, I believe.

There´s not much to the bonus clues. If the team gets it right, a bell rings and they get 5 minutes extra.
FYI, I tweeted Janet Varney after the 2nd failed escape to ask why they didn't show solutions. All failed escapes after that showed solutions.

Did you notice how in dungeon escape episode the Serial Killer was called Eddie? Well, coincidentally, the name of The Helper trying to get Amber, Alison, Dan and Josh out of prison is also called Eddie!
MY THEORY
Eddie (Serial Killer) was caught and arrested by the police and sent to prison.
Eddie (Serial Killer) escapes prison and now is trying to help other people get out of prison (because he want revenge on the justice system).
Eddie (Serial Killer) becomes Eddie (The Helper).
I have a feeling that the name "Eddie" will be used in later "Escape!" escape rooms and will further flesh out the story of "Eddie".
Plus I believe the set for the "dungeon" escape room would have been Eddie's previous serial killer lair! Nice job connecting across rooms I totally missed that
That was a really neat escape room design and seeing them hand objects between the cells from the hallway shot was a really cool visual. Great job everyone who put that together!

for the time puzzle i got "Eddie Always Gets The Last Word" , ive been screaming it at my screen and when i saw all the clues i got "Hang Sheet From Window" XD

I was the same way about the 3x7 code grid.
3x7 code grid, the way it was displayed on screen kinda gave it away for those of us following along at home...
I think it's harder when you didn't see the clue by yourself but only heard from somebody else describing it to you
i was so angry that they didn't get it but laughing my ass off at how confused they looked after reading each one.
I'd love to see this group in another escape room. They were really fun to watch.

and JOSH killed the team like SO HARD! (Also DAN... but I admit his room is kinda empty with these 4 phrases which doesnt prove anything since they didnt get the 'Eddie' clue)
but it was nice of amber to put down her medicinals, get off her couch that she was lounging on in her housecoat, and come help out. lol

I get this feeling. That the final episode of this will be Janet's rescue.
Loved being able to pause at 19:49 to do the Bonus Time Puzzle.
I'm impressed that they got out, but I think I'm more impressed that they did it without using their hourglass clue. I hope they had it explained to them at some point before they left the set.

Okay, so I hear this one a lot and decided to look it up. First off, the word for a smell isn't "nauseous", it's "noxious", so points off for that.
Also, interestingly, if you look at the etymology, both of the words "nauseous" and "nauseated" have had both meanings "having nausea" and "causing nausea" throughout history. It looks like both words basically had the same original meaning, "to be afflicted with nausea" back in the early 1600's, but then at different times, each of them flipped to mean "to cause nausea" (it obviously varies depending on which source you're looking at). Then at some point formal rules of publication/writing settled on "nauseous" as "causing nausea", but the spoken vernacular never adopted that rule, so people were still saying, "I feel nauseous" and then getting corrected by pretentious English majors, a tradition which continues to this day.
But the word for smells is "noxious", a related but different word. So :P
I appreciate the work the people did to set these up and I like how it shows us the clues as they happen. Well done, G&S
I think this is best room so far from all of the episodes I've seen. Not to easy and not too hard and each person was able to contribute (or had the potential to contribute)

this is my favourite one of the escape rooms you guys created. its so original.
One of the better puzzle rooms. I really like this one. There were no huge connection leaps, people had to work together, no one could just stand and watch, and no one could hog all the clues. Very well done.
The bonus clue was easy, but I was not under the stress that these guys were under. 'Hang sheet from window.'
Janet is just too charming. I only watch these for her, honestly.
Amber Benson reminds me of a young Linda Hamilton. I'm talking Terminator 1 era.

Not sure what kind of budget hit these escape rooms take but I think you all should bring it back for a few episodes

This was a really good group, they all did very well especially having to work together from separate places not even being able to see each other’s clues and stuff

this is some awesome teamwork, that last clue was really difficult o_O
The wall miscomm was so frustrating to watch. 3 by 7, and they're trying to solve a 4x4 grid. If it had dawned on Amber earlier what the 3 by 7 clue in Josh's cell was referring to, the clue wouldn't be needed and could have been saved for something else.
Just gonna say that Janet Varney's voice is all Korra all the time and I love it.

The time bonus puzzle was really easy if you had all the clues, but getting all the information between them would've taken serious coordination
