  • Fall is here in Arizona, and it's the perfect time for lakeside camping in the 4Runner! An excursion to check out ancient cliff dwellings, beach shore campfire, lots of camp cooking in the pie irons, fishing, and just relaxing under the stars; followed by a frybread picnic on the way home.

    I learned a couple things from your video: put my sandals/house shoes in the door pocket, and put a mat down outside the side door. Thank you!

      Glad to hear it! 😄 I keep a book in the passenger side pocket, so I’m never stuck (again) without anything to read.

    I found you by camp kitchen box video(👍), but this was very relaxing. Makes me miss my buddy in Arizona. Oh and also hungry. 😆

    I like your style! I’m setting up my 2017 Jeep Cherokee, I watched over 100 videos on sleeping platforms. Yours won first place in my estimation!

    Do you think your kitchen box is bear proof?

    • @ShoestringMartha
      @ShoestringMartha  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely not 😂 So far, it's been raccoon and skunk resistant, but I think a bear could rip it right apart pretty easily.

    I lived/worked in Chandler for 17 years. Your videos are bringing back memories and nostalgic feelings. I regret I didn't get out more while I was younger and able. Good for you for doing as much as you can.

    Wish they would get the Apache Trail open again through Fish Creek. I spent many good times traversing that route.
    I just love your vibe of music, narration, editting. Glad Tristan showcased your rig. :)

      And yeah, it's been 2 years, and ADOT doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get those 7 miles done. No estimated completion date; not even a timeline.

    • @CasitaAdventurer
      @CasitaAdventurer ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Apache Trail was one of the highest rated Arizona adventures. Can't believe the state can't get funding to compete the repairs.

    This video made my heart sing! I miss camping in the SW US so much. Years ago I was a hotshot, so my camping trips were sponsored by the Forest Service and always on the smoky side.

      Probably not nearly as comfy either. I was briefly a reserve FF - but never did wildland. Good on ya! 👏

    Love it! Is the road there boat pulling friendly for an intermediate driver? 21' boat w decent sized truck.

    • @ShoestringMartha
      @ShoestringMartha  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those blind corners are too much for a chicken like me 😅 But I did see a couple braver folks pulling boats. I also saw on the Apache Lake Marina’s FB page that 11 miles of the road were recently graded, so it’s probably easier than when I went.
      Also that closure due to the landslide is still in effect, years later, so you still have to take “the long way” around.

    • @ShoestringMartha
      @ShoestringMartha  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! I don’t think I really had a recipe. If I recall, it was just chopped up walnuts and enough honey to make ‘em stick together. 🤔

    How do I get there?

    • @ShoestringMartha
      @ShoestringMartha  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Since I believe part of Apache Trail is *still* closed -- the same way I went. Take 87 / Bush Hwy to the 188 south, and then AZ-88 west takes your right there.

    I find your video so relaxing. I will visit that campground soon. What camp site number did you get? I like that it has the lake view but still a bit secluded based on the angles of your video.

    • @ShoestringMartha
      @ShoestringMartha  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much! The campground is Burnt Corral. We had site 35. It was at the very end, away from the boat ramp, on a little cove - so pretty peaceful. FYI, October 6-November 1, all sites are non-reservable / first-come, first serve.

    • @proud_mama79
      @proud_mama79 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much for your response. I was looking at the map and saw that spot. How early did you get there to get such a nice spot?

    • @ShoestringMartha
      @ShoestringMartha  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I went, I was able to reserve. I think it was later in November. If you are able to go during the week, you're probably fine. If not, you'll probably still be fine. I got the impression that it isn't that popular in the Fall, especially with tent / car / SUV campers.
