Beliau juga memperkatakan mengenai budaya perdebatan di Indonesia yang intense tetapi tiada di Malaysia. Beliau turut mengimbau kembali sejarahnya bersama seorang lagi Sasterawan Negara-Keris Emas.

Pernah jumpa Dato Dr Baha Zain ni dekat USM Penang dia dengan Sasterawan Negara iaitu Tan Sri Dato S Samad Said..masa tu sy kerja bancuh ayaq dekat cafetiara dlm USM..depa 2 orang yg hebat ini oder ayaq milo hangat tanpa gula jd sy bancuh kau kau boh milo lebih kat depa.
