I'm a Met fan ,I'm from Queens, N.Y. but I say it like it is, 1990 Reds had a crazy squad, baseball ain't the same no more, I miss my childhood watching all these games from the 80's and 90's....
@Jim McCracken Yes sir ...My Poppa loved Johnny Bench when I was very young. So I followed naturally. They were built the same and had the same batting style.
Sat in the 3rd row of the Green seats, behind home plate for WS G-2, I cut up a basketball into a Mr. Red "head helmet", with #44 on the back of it. Sitting in the stands smoking cigars, on my 21st birthday. EASILY top-5 days of my life. And the Nasty Boys were SOOOOO much fun!
My childhood heroes were the Big Red Machine, but my young adult-hood hero was Eric the Red, followed up by a tie between Chris Sabo and Rob Dibble. Larkin was no slouch, either.
1990 is the first year I can remember watching any sports. I was 10 and living in KY I was a Reds fan. That 90 team was a complete team and they were clutch. Great defense, great pitching and great hitting. I miss those days of Eric Davis,Chris Sabo,Larkin,Rijo,Dibble...etc. I can still smell that Autumn night way back in 1990 as a 10 year old when the Reds swept the A's. Some of the best times ever.
Dodger fan here. This REDS team had the same type of grit, Blue collar approach as my Dodgers just 2 years before in '88, and when we beat Oakland in 5 games. Both the DODGERS and REDS had great Pitching and won playing great Defense and our fielding was sensational. Edge to the Reds in Fielding but pretty even with pitching. Though I must say while we both disposed of the A's sooner than we ever thought possible, your Reds were were really going to town slugging the bats. Great Reds team.
@MrVelosh As a Reds fan I think the 88 Dodgers had a team that as you said won 2-1, 3-2, 1-0 type games very well adding Gibsons fire along with the Bulldog carrying the staff it put you guys in a position for the upset after Gibsons thrilling HR. Now the 1990 Reds as you said we had good offense & we had the ace in Jose Rijo but the difference for us was clearly The Nasty Boys Dibble, Charlton, Myers cause games were over after the 5th inning when the Reds had the lead.
Dodger fan here. I personally never watched the post-season if the Dodgers didn't make it to the playoffs. But I have to admit, there was something very special about the Reds in the 1990 season. I was 13 and remember watching every game of the NLCS and rooting for the Reds. They had such a great team and was amazed at how they beat the Pirates (w/Bonds, Bonilla, VanSlyke, etc.). I was rooting for them again during every game of the WS. Even though the As were good, I always felt Canseco and McGuire were so overrated and always failed during the post-season. The Reds definitely deserved to win the WS and did an AMAZING JOB! Even thought I am not a Reds fan, I will never forget this incredible 1990's team.
Thank you for adding this video. I'm from Cincinnati, and I was 12 years old at the time. I will never forget that season. Davis, Hatcher, Larkin and the Nasty Boys. Greatest group of underachievers I've ever seen.
I was 10 & turned 11 month & half after the World Series. Great memories Happened right @ that time when I was getting to the age that it mattered and the same yr my UNLV Runnin Rebels Won The NCAA NATiONAL CHAMPIONSHiP That same yr.
Overachievers you mean? They were good, but Barry was the only one who was great after this series. Davis always got hurt after this and even Barry got hurt a lot, but he won an MVP after this.
What makes this team different than most is heart and personality. So many of the players today seem so similar. On just one team the Reds had the Nasty Boys, Davis, Larkin, and Sabo. Talk about unique individuals! All season I do think Barry was the heartbeat of the team. I think he was the best all around short stop of his generation. Ozzie Smith may have been a better fielder, but when the game was on the line I would want Larkin at the plate. Larkin was a very good fielder in his own right as well.
***** I sure hope so. I think they will be rebuilding for at least the next couple of years and incapable of winning anything. It would be nice to see Votto get a ring. Everything will have to work out just perfectly though.
I Love remembering this series. I had just turned 19 when it started. My grandmother and I would rush through dinner and dishes so we could sit and watch our beloved Reds play in the series. It had been a long time since their last series. We muted the TV and listened to Marty and Joe on 700 WLW out of Cincinnati. Those guys sounded like they were as excited as we were. When Marty made that final call " Benzinger backing and calling... and the 1990 World's Championship belongs to the Cincinnati Reds!!". My grandmother and I hugged as if we had played the game that night. It's an awesome memory I have of an awesome team and an awesome lady. Thanks 1990 Cincinnati Reds. I owe you more than I could ever pay tou.
I will never forget that team and the best thing about it was that other than Jose Rijo, Randy Myers and maybe a couple other guys......that roster was all home grown players....Paul O'Neil, Charlton, Dibble, Larkin, Eric Davis, Sabo, Joe Oliver, and others all drafted/ signed and developed by the Reds.
Such a memorable summer. Went to Riverfront at least five times that season to watch the Reds. We had another 90 plus win team in 1992, but the Braves were beginning their reign of terror. If only the wildcards were incorporated into the playoffs then!
Upon being swept four-games-to-none by the Reds, the A’s still contended that they were the best team in baseball. Radio host Don Imus remarked on-air, “Well, the best team in baseball just got handed an old-fashioned ass whooping.”
It won't happen until karma balances back out with the Hit King sitting atop his throne in Cooperstown.... Which sadly means that Pete won't be alive to see it....
I've been a reds fan my whole life. Born and raised in Cincinnati. They won this world series a month after I was born. So technically they've won one in my lifetime but i couldn't exactly enjoy it lol. We haven't been competitive since 2013. Who knows how long it will be till we get back to the playoffs. 2012 was our best chance at a championship recently and we blew a 2-0 lead over the giants in a 5 game series with the last 3 games at home. I went to those three games. Game 5 I just got wasted cuz i couldn't believe be blew that series. The giants went on to win it all.

1955 Dodgers would leave Brooklyn within 2 years following the 1957 season. +ericradford2142 Me too! I appreciate that coming from a Padre fan. I like the Padre organization. Tony Gwynn is one of my favorite non-Reds. I saw him hit a grand slam in Cincinnati when I was a kid. Great hitter and class act. Not to mention you guys had one of the best closers in the history of the game-- Trevor Hoffman.
I was so happy the Reds beat and swept the " mighty" A's in that WS. Besides the Cubs ,,the Reds are my favorite team. I guess because when I was in little league I was on the Reds. We had some pretty cool uniforms for 1979 We had the white pants with the 2 red stripes on the sides and red button jerseys with the Reds logo on the left chest. No mlb baseball teams had solid colored tops at the time,, they were super cool to me!!
Thanks for uploading this. Brings back all kinds of memories. When I was 8 years old I had this on VHS and wore out the tape. I must have watched it 500 times.
Last week, I got the chance to meet Eric Davis, and even though I am a Phillies fan, I remember really enjoying that 1990 postseason - especially the World Series (because I didn't like the A's). He was one of the first guys to get me to take an interest in baseball from somewhere other than the 215 area code.
Reviving this... I worked as a vendor for the '90 season. I was 18, and got to see every home game. One of my best sports memories ever...and that is saying I've held the giant US flag on the field for Opening Day and the All Star game.
Thanks for posting this. Brings back a lot of memories. I was a huge fan back in this era. I had the VHS but lost it over time. Nice to revisit the 1990 season. So many awesome games!
No he didn't.. Hal Morris, Randy Myers and Billy Hatcher were acquired after Rose was gone. Davis, Browning, Sabo and O'Neill were in the Reds system BEFORE Rose got there. All Rose did was ruin Mario Soto and Rob Murphy's arms because of his gambling.
I've been wachting the Reds since I was five (when I started watching mlb) and I love watching this cause now a days the Reds aren't doing much but I still love them and this video so thanks for posting I love baseball ⚾️
Awesome video. Starts off with Randy Myers making a strong, bold statement about what the Reds need to do in order to win and be in 1st place. The narrator messed up, tho, stating the Reds first 8-games were on the road. The Cincinnati REDS ALWAYS start the season at home as the FIRST team in professional baseball (or sports for that matter). Then we get a glimpse of THE most important person on the Reds club...one of only two that was here in 70's and for all THREE World Series Championships.
Man that was a magical season boys. I was only 10 years old that year and only in my second year of knothole. I learned a lot from this team and would love for my kids to get to watch the reds in another magical year as a kid like got to.
Sweet Lou Piniella did a terrific job managing this club. Great pitching with Jose Rijo as their ace and with the Nasty Boys Norm Charlton, Rob Dibble and Myers, this team was tough to beat, especially when got clutch contributions from Paul O'Neill, Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo, and Mariano Duncan.
From a Louisiana boy that became a Reds fan by watching this special season let me say it was magical. For whatever reason ESPN televised a lot of the Reds games down here this season and anyone with a knack for baseball knew this was a very different team from the previous season. You could feel they were headed for something big. Still my favorite year of baseball hands down. Thanks for posting this Zach!
I knew this team had what it took to win it all when Norm Charlton ran over Mike Socia to score from 1st. That was a special moment. One I will ALWAYS remember! The 1990 Reds were a special group. From Larkin, Davis, O'Neil, right down to to Billy Bates.
The Reds started 32-12 and then played .500 baseball the rest of the way finishing 91-71. They sure were built for the playoffs as their superb bullpen gave up just 1 earned run in 31 1/3 innings in the postseason.
Jose Rijo, Eric Davis, Rob Dibble........ Those where my heros when I was 16...... To bad the Bengals got cheated 89 in the Superbowl...... BOMMER ESIASON,,,, ICKY WOODS..... LORD HAVE MERCY
What a team these guys were-the bullpen was so good and every player on this team made key plays all season long-Braggs catch was one of the best plays in Reds history and Rijo was just the workhouse you need to win championships-we paid the Pirates back for 1979!!Bob Welch won 27 games that year and Dave Stewart was awesome that year-we beat the two best pitchers in baseball back to back-Oakland were the defending champions and had won 10 straight playoff games before we swept them 4-0!!This team was one for the ages!!The MVP of this team was the whole team they were a team in every sense of the word
***** When we will see another team like this?We were one pitch from sweeping the Giants in 2012 and blew that series I think that was the best team we had since the 1990 team.
79steelymatt I totally agree with man the Reds lost the series in game 3 when my Giants won that third game in extra innings then won the next day then in game 5 when Buster Posey playing the role like Johnny Bench when he hit a grand slami off Mat Latos to win the NLDS.
Brian Davis You guys play until the last out and never give up and get down, that is the sign of a championship team and a great manager and team chemistry-I hate the Dodgers so SF is my third favorite team behind Cincy and Cleveland. That game was hard to swallow but I am glad you guys won that year
I remember that team. I started watching and listening to baseball the year before. That 1990 squad was Pete Rose’s team who helped and assembled the greatest Reds team since the Big Red Machine. The only two teams I was worried about playing were the SF Giants and the Pirates. And Marge Schott hit a row deal from the media. Yeah, she said some crazy things yet she was the nicest and most caring lady I ever met. I met her at the Sunoco on Kenwood where she paid for my gas and another fellow I was working with at the time. She was buying cigarettes and decided to help some working folk like us to get home that night as we were paying for gas with quarters. She was long gone before we figured out who had paid for our gas. Some racist. lol. But of course the national media won’t tell you about the countless acts of kindness she performed with the locals or the donations she made to Children’s hospital. None of it ever made the news.
My 1990 Redlegs had what is now referred to as "swag" You can now order this entire video on DVD through the Reds internet store or gift shop at the Reds Hall Of Fame. I just wish my main man Eric Keith Davis was able to enjoy that plane ride home and the celebration. He was still in the hospital in Oakland.
He had a great first half in 90 , but was below average for the rest of his career. It's a shame he couldn't maintain that level of performance , the Reds could have made the playoffs in 92 or won in 95 with a first half of 90 Jack performance.
Does anyone in Cincinnati remember Sabo's old Ford Escort? I think it was yellow? Here's a young man making millions driving an OLDER model Ford Escort. I could just see the parking lot...ferraris, lamboroghinis, mercedes-benzs, and Sabo's Escort. Watching this I cannot help but feel sad. As happy as I was, I feel horrible for Eric The Red Davis not being able to be there in this massive life moment with his teammates. I really wish they had one another one with ED - one of my all-time favorite Reds.
Sabo wasn't making millions , this was just his third year. Iirc , he only played one year after leaving Cincy and signing his biggest contract . Edit : he played four more years and made over a million in 91, 92 , 93 & 94
Game# 1 - Davis HR, Hatcher hit machine, Rijo dominates Game# 2 - Reds scrap, Oliver big hit Game #3 - Sabomania, 2HR and pick machine at 3B Game #4 - Rijo dominates again. What a series, what a team. Never will be duplicated.!!
I'm a Met fan ,I'm from Queens, N.Y. but I say it like it is, 1990 Reds had a crazy squad, baseball ain't the same no more, I miss my childhood watching all these games from the 80's and 90's....
Ditto my man. Was a great time
@elbob17The NBA has zero to do with this video
I'd love to go back to 1990 just to relive these Cincinnati sports memories!
Agree, but I'm guessing you weren't around for the BRM. 90's team was the all time Blue Collar WS champ. 75-76 Reds were the greatest teams period.
My favorite baseball team of all time...the 1990 Cincinnati Reds.
@Jim McCracken Yes sir ...My Poppa loved Johnny Bench when I was very young. So I followed naturally. They were built the same and had the same batting style.
I've seen this almost 10 times I am a diehard reds fan
Curt cox I watch this every year the night before Opening Day. Go Reds!
i was 12 yrs old the bengals were still good them were the days
Is there a way I can get this in DVD form?

Great Memories of a great baseball team!!
Thanks for posting this. Brings back a lot of memories. I was a huge fan back in this era. I had the VHS but lost it over time. Nice to revisit the 1990 season. So many awesome games!
I had the chance to meet Chris Sabo and play whiffle ball with him when I was 12. Amazing experience. Always been a Reds fan. Always will be..
Thank Pete Rose for this team he built it. Lou said that himself.
He's wrong.
Heel Charisma
I’m sure Lou Pinella was wrong.
MANCHESTER UNITED
No it won’t. It’s too lame and whimpy.
@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C soccer blows
The Reds are one of the few teams whom I think their old uniforms are better than their current ones.
1911forever I agree. their current ones do look a lot like these unis here..just a little modernized. I hated the pinstrips
Oh of course, they need to go back to them ..... !
my VHS got ruined over the years :( :( :( thanks so much!!!!!! this is probably one of my favorite things to watch ever!!!!!!!!
Loved watching this. As a diehard fan of the Reds, I can only hope the 2015 team will be as good as the 1990 champs.
Cincy Fan Zone not with the type of pitching we have
I miss Riverfront and those uniforms. Reminds me of the '70's.
I've been wachting the Reds since I was five (when I started watching mlb) and I love watching this cause now a days the Reds aren't doing much but I still love them and this video so thanks for posting I love baseball ⚾️
The grey away jerseys we wore this year are my favorite Reds jerseys ever.
I forget why - maybe weather - but the Reds DID open up in Houston. You can look it up.
Man that was a magical season boys. I was only 10 years old that year and only in my second year of knothole. I learned a lot from this team and would love for my kids to get to watch the reds in another magical year as a kid like got to.
Jesus this is so 90s it’s perfect
Marty and Joe.. Riverfront stadium..this team..oh man those were great times! 😍😌
Sweet Lou Piniella did a terrific job managing this club. Great pitching with Jose Rijo as their ace and with the Nasty Boys Norm Charlton, Rob Dibble and Myers, this team was tough to beat, especially when got clutch contributions from Paul O'Neill, Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo, and Mariano Duncan.
remember Big O'Neill basically won game 2 by himself & the team took off from there
Most of these guys had the best season of their career in 1990 and that is why they won it all!
Possibly the most solid team to win The WS.
I agree !!
This season was the year I was born. Mariners fan because of Ken Griffey Jr and a fan of the reds cause he went there in 2000
It's coming back to Cincinnati soon
Soon.
My favorite team always
The Reds Victory in the World Series is One of the Biggest Upsets in World Series History, period!!!
What exactly does “period” mean?
I knew this team had what it took to win it all when Norm Charlton ran over Mike Socia to score from 1st. That was a special moment. One I will ALWAYS remember! The 1990 Reds were a special group. From Larkin, Davis, O'Neil, right down to to Billy Bates.
The Reds started 32-12 and then played .500 baseball the rest of the way finishing 91-71. They sure were built for the playoffs as their superb bullpen gave up just 1 earned run in 31 1/3 innings in the postseason.
No matter how often I see Marge Schott's image, I will always hear Billy West's voice in my ears.
Siiiick graphics!! 1990 forever!!!!!!!
Jose Rijo, Eric Davis, Rob Dibble........ Those where my heros when I was 16...... To bad the Bengals got cheated 89 in the Superbowl...... BOMMER ESIASON,,,, ICKY WOODS..... LORD HAVE MERCY
I love some of the footage of old Riverfront Stadium. Always thought it looked so iconic.
A paint-by-numbers-concrete-dump like Three Rivers and the Vet.
@@fmaren opinions vary.
Since baseball season is postponed due to Corona virus I'm watching this I'm having baseball withdrawals
One of the Best Cincinnati Reds teams in History, period!!!!
Defines a machine. A Big Red one.
That game was hard to swallow but I am glad you guys won that year
Who would have thought after a season like that we wouldn’t be back in the 90’s @ least but now it’s been 30years. Sheesh
That LCS was one if the most exciting in history.
Yes it was David!!!!
Big O'Neill dominated game2 I heard he could of been mvp of the series
I still remember hearing about skinflint Marge making Eric Davis pay for his flight to Cincy after his bruised kidney. Stay classy Marge!
I went to a spring training game in Florida that year and remember saying , who's that Sabo guy , ha ha Spuds was awesome .
What’s so cool about the Reds is a lot of their legends are homegrown from Cincinnati.
Rose,Larkin,Griffey
Randy Meyers is from the same town I grew up in. Still is talked about around town on occasion
The red machine , love them
I remember that team.
As a Pirates fan, the Reds were the first team to break my heart.
98mph is easily 100-101nph on the stadium guns now days.
Dibbs was bringing SMOKE ⚾️ 💨
Where can I download the music in this video??
02:53 if there weren't any captions i would've guessed rob dibble and rick vaughn fr major league
My 1990 Redlegs had what is now referred to as "swag"
You can now order this entire video on DVD through the Reds internet store or gift shop at the Reds Hall Of Fame.
I just wish my main man Eric Keith Davis was able to enjoy that plane ride home and the celebration. He was still in the hospital in Oakland.
Real talk
1990 Cincinnati Reds World Series Champions
Jack Armstrong was definitely the most unheralded player on this team. Great pitcher.
He had a great first half in 90 , but was below average for the rest of his career.
It's a shame he couldn't maintain that level of performance , the Reds could have made the playoffs in 92 or won in 95 with a first half of 90 Jack performance.
Nothing real flashy but what a complete blue-collar team
Edit : he played four more years and made over a million in 91, 92 , 93 & 94
Me too cap but I just lost mine in a move a couple years ago. Breaks my heart.
A stills of jackace
Game# 1 - Davis HR, Hatcher hit machine, Rijo dominates
Game# 2 - Reds scrap, Oliver big hit
Game #3 - Sabomania, 2HR and pick machine at 3B
Game #4 - Rijo dominates again.
What a series, what a team. Never will be duplicated.!!
