One day i was looking at legendary creatures to make a deck around, as commanders. I found Archelos,, Lagoon Mystic. And its literally master oogway from kung fu panda. Now i am making proxys for many cards that would be on an Archelos deck as kung fu panda characters.
Card alters are always a really fun and interesting thing to get into for magic. When I can get them I usually do just because they're really fun to play around with

I have a Macho Man Randy Savage alter of Omnath, Locus of Rage for obvious reasons that was given to me by a good friend as a gift and it’s amazing. The artist who did it was MODFLY well renowned alter artist in the magic community.
A friend of mine gifted me four custom tokens on my birthday, that she had crafted herselfe. Green 1/1 flying deathtouch insects for my hornet queen. They look so amazing! She is realy talented.
Everyone loves a little bling in their EDH deck. Altered cards kinda add that without having to be bank breaking for a special edition that's hard to find
One of my favorite alters that I’ve seen was a Torbran, Thane of Red Fell altered to look like Uncle Iroh. I don’t know who the artist was, but I really wish I could’ve gotten one like it for my Torbran deck.

I'm making alters in my cards with acrylic for over 12 a 15 years. It's customized, I love them more than Wizards' "showcases". Wizards copied our work... And they are right! People love alters!!
I had Marta Molina do an alter of Sylvan Reclamation for me in the style of Lord of the Rings. Love it. Tip, if you want to commission a card by an artist to paint/alter, be sure to look through their portfolio to find the artist who will meet what you want done to your card.
My roommate is painting an Emiel the Blessed card alter for me..out of a Pegasus token.. because he just isn't in my budget and I had to make a unicorn blink deck. Glad you made this video.
my favourite alter is easily my Krenko, Bob Ross by Trayboar_Paints. Trevor is a great guy with a great skill for painting on cardboard crack. would definitely recommend getting stuff by him
I have a Vadrok, Apex of thunder jeskai mutate deck, and all but one of the mutate creatures in jeskai have showcase art, because the one that doesn’t is from the precon, so I commissioned some art in that style of souvenir snatcher so all the mutate creatures in my deck can look pretty. Also please get on that top-of-head-reveal.
I have appreciated the talent behind the alter industry for years, and I've always dreamed about getting a beautiful alter for my favorite card: spore frog. Unfortunately, as of right now I have not found any artists who are evil enough to endorse such a card. It's a sad life :(
I’m still waiting for that Gundam set! Char’s Zaku with Haste, Flying, Double-Strike, and there would be a handful of legendary creatures that have synergy with the Gundams in their color identity to act as the pilots and they would have alternate Gundam art too.
I absolutely adore alt art. My hope is that each plane/set will have unique styles. Zen risimg and ikoria look a lil similar unfortunately. That being said i'm insanely excited for innestrahd and the dnd set alts

Finding cards to alter and HOW to alter them is so difficult :O I dislike the extended border, it does not feel personalized at all. And a change of art... it's difficult XD What would I like? Heh, it's a difficult but rewarding process!
A friend of mine kinda does alters (idk their tagline or I'd tag them) and I got 1 of a snap caster mage. Only the art is of Shao Khan from the MK movie.
Not a fan of alters. I’ve seen a few good ones, but most are slight extensions of the art or jamming in other pop culture references (“it’s Vedalken Orrery but I drew a naruto on it!”).
I don't mind border extensions or theme changes but I'm not a fan of the pop culture references either, even when it's a reference to something I enjoy; sure, it's pretty awesome that some people can paint the x-men in great detail at such small scale, but what does it have to do with mtg? I don't really enjoy the prospect of doing crossovers in standard sets either, totally not looking forward to that. I understand how other people might enjoy it, but I thought that's what unsets and secret lairs were for? I really hope Im never forced to cast a Rick Grimes (as much I love TWD) if I want to play competitive mtg.

What is the etiquette with working with alter artists? What happens if you don't like their art that you had in mind? Do you just not pay for it or what? I'm really considering getting some cards commissioned...
I only have brief experience during a text exchange with an alterist (was out of budget for me, so i didn't go through) so my experience is not a lot here, but I would say you don't really have a choice but to pay considering they have your card. They spent time and energy on the alter, so unless it comes out looking like something a toddler finger-painted they deserve compensation. That said, I'm sure anyone with any business sense would work with you to make it right if possible if you really hated it. It's also your responsibility to vet your artist beforehand; take a look at other alters they have done to get a feel for their style and ability before even contacting them.
I think proper etiquette would be to only commission from an artist who you’ve seen their work, trust them to do a good job, and are willing to pay what they charge. As they say in this video, respect the craft. If you don’t have that trust maybe start with buying cards that are already finished.
i have a question. every time i play a card do i have to read it out loud, ( not my problem if they dont know the card untill it resolves correct?.) i am asking because my group waits for me to finish reading it out loud then they just counter my spell. to me this makes no sense. please help
I dont see how a stranger on the internet is going to help solve this problem. just talk to your playgroup about this. the way I do it, is I say the name of the card, and if someone is not familiar with it Ill read it out. my playgroup basically knows every magic card in existance though.

I like altered cards. But only by the original artist. My favorite thing to do at conventions is seeking out artists and asking them to alter my cards.

one (or 4) of the coolest alters I've seen is a person turn 4 snapcaster mages into the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. it was so cool looking.

I painted over my Revised duals, Chaos Warp, Forcefield, and black bordered anything with a white border. No regrets.

I used to alter cards in high school. I would bring some cards to art class and work on them there.

I personally don't like when "altered" cards are printed by wizards because I feel it makes hand painted alters less special
There is some pros though, mainly that they are legal card alters since you can't usually use altered cards in tournaments.
