    I must say you are one hell of a welder. You run your welder much hotter than I do, If I ran my welder that hot and at that speed I would have mounds but I do like the burn through to the back panel. My welds are not that pronounced in the back panel on most welds. I take my hat off to you Russ ;)

      +Cary Lamari Thanks Cary. I have a lot to learn when it comes to welding. So far the only experience I have is just working on the car. I haven't welding any of the thicker metal yet. I had a lot of trouble before until I got this 180C. I really like this welder.

    I'd say that was pretty awesome there Russ. Fantastic welds as usual. I want to see you doing some stitch welds soon!

      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +asicerik Thanks Erik. Going to have to get some gas before I can do any more. I may do some stitch welds on the doors.

    Looks really good Russ. Good tip on welding against the copper strip. I picked up some copper circular plates that I want to try to add 1/2 magnets to for sticking on the backside. Let you know how that works out.

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Idaho 2nd Gens Thanks Jon. Let me know, I have used some magnets in the past and sometimes the heat will break them. The bigger ones will probably work much better.

    I find sometimes I have to run a bit of wire to get the gas to the nozzle right when I turn the welder on. It makes for a bad first weld, so I'm usually welding on scrap until it cleans up. The car is looking great.

      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Greg's Garage, I probably should have done that. I usually do, but for some reason didn't. lol. Thanks Greg

    Thanks that was a nice detailed video. Too bad about the bottle thing, seems to me they should not give you such grief about it. I believe you are correct the panel was punched that way seen it in other after market panels.

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MidwestMotoRider Thanks, Probably just going to have to buy an 80. Thanks for watching.

    I also turn the heat down and wire speed up a touch when welding upside down. Gravity loves to pull molten weld pools to the floor 😀

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Velvethamma Yep, that gravity wreaks havoc welding upside down. Wasn't too bad once I got the welder dialed in. I do need to get some ear protection for this.

    In the area you were concerned about, I wonder if you cut two short pieces of angle iron, put one on the inside and one on the outside so it kind of sandwiches the metal between them. Then weld a long bar or pipe across the top of both of the angle iron pieces, then pushing side to side on the pipe you could kind of twist the center of the panel a little so one side will go in a little and the other will come out a little?
    Or you could just leave it like it is :). Can you tell little things like that bother me too! Great video!

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +toolmike100 Thanks, and yes that probably will work. I think I will see how the tail panel fits before anymore changes.

    I like the size tires and wheels on the back of your Camaro. When I get that far I will get with you on what size tires you have on the back. Also, I would like to swap a Steeljaw sticker for a double RR. thanks Jeff aka Steeljaw

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jeff, I will get you the tire size. These are just on there for a roller. I'm planning on using the stock Z wheels. I'm looking forward to seeing some more vids on your camaro. My address is Russell Reese, 3721 Caseknife Rd, Pulaski, VA 24301. Send me yours and I will get you a sticker in the mail.

    My miller 130 has 3 heat settings, not a dial. I keep it on mid. setting. Could you comment on wire size,heat you are really helping me on my '71 RS. Clamps start adding up. Also, Your clarity on comentary is great. Thanks.

    • @DoubleRRestorations

      terry, I find that the smaller wire works best for me. I'm using the Lincoln wire and I think they call it a .025 size while others call it a .023. I find that works best with sheetmetal. I started out using a Miller 130xp. They are great machines. I still use it some today. I'm glad to hear the vids are helping.

    really came out nice great job later

  • @cw2lido
    @cw2lido 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you find you are having to tweak the aftermarket parts versus just repairing the one you pulled off?

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cw2lido On this particular part it was easier just to modify the new part. Most of the parts on this car are too far gone to repair. I would have liked to repair them if I could have got to them first. Even some of the nos GM parts I have still need some tweaking. The repos I think have really come a long way since that last few years.

    how long have you been working on this car so far?

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Harry Powers , Harry I bought the car in 02 and it was in pieces. I lost my dad late 03 and the car sit for a long time. There was times I thought about just getting rid of it. I have restored all of the drivetrain, and all the small pieces to the car and the only thing really left is the body work and some interior pieces. As far as hours go, I never kept track of them. This car should have been finished long ago.

      +Double R Restorations wHAT MADE YOU START DOING VIDEOS?

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Harry Powers It does help if your wife is onboard with the project. They are very time consuming and money pits. Maybe somehow you could get her involved. My wife and I go to shows together and look at cars. When we go on these trips I also take her to places that interest her also. She like the Tanger Outlet Shops.

    • @DoubleRRestorations
      @DoubleRRestorations  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Harry Powers I had commented on one of Velvethamma's videos and sent him a link to a thread on a forum of my project. He encouraged me to make videos. Some time passed and we already had a camera so I decided to do an intro vid of the project. Sam at Classic Car Overhaul give me a shout out and that's how it all got started. It has also helped me stay motivated on the project and I have met some very cool people and made some great friends.
