My father was a similar style story teller, hearing Sammy is like hearing my father. My children all were blessed with his story telling. Although he wasn't a made guy or anything, his stories were just as compelling and or hilarious. I can't say thanks enough Sammy. But my fathers famous phrase comes to mind. "Don't give thanks, give money".

I know Joey B all my life, my father and Joey grew up together on Staten island. Joey had a small gym on Norway Ave, my father took me there when I was around 12 years old. Joey would put on the gloves and box with me, teach me. I never forgot that. Later on in life, I knew who he was and he always was a great guy to me. Helped me numerous times in life. Always was our friend. Knew his daughters, son's. The whole family, A LEGEND on Staten Island.

Joey was like an uncle to me growing up and i loved him
He was always laughing and joking around when he was at our house
which was almost everyday sometimes
I would always be taking rides with him and my stepdad all over NY and NJ and everywhere we went someone would always coming up and showing them the utmost respect and as soon as they left Joe or my stepdad would tell the story about how the broke that same well wishers arm or leg or face or put them in the hospital
As a young kid it made no sense to me later on I figured it out
I remember one time we were getting gas and the attendant got a little snarky with Joe and Joe got out of the car and gave the guy a beating Just then a couple of cops driving by saw the commotion and pulled in I thought we were all going to get arrested
The cops get out Joe was already done kicking ass and walks over to the cops and shakes their hands a within two minutes their all laughing I didn’t know what the hell was going on
Then the cops go talk to the attendant who was tending to his injuries
The cops come walking back with the attendant and he apologizes to Joe for getting out of line and we go on our way
Those were the days

In all of the high stakes sit downs Sammy was involved with, he always comes off like a genius lawyer who delivers the perfect closing argument to win his case. He remained calm & analyzed each incident logically without letting emotions taint his thinking. Its amazing how poised he remained when decisions meant either life & death. The lesson his stories teach is “doing the right thing” should be the mindset/motive behind every one of your actions. This way when others review your role in a situation, if they think “ I would have made that same move under the circumstances ” you will end up surviving.
