    Yes is an amazing band, and amazing isn’t really a good enough word...my favorite band for decades. Every song they record, they can perform to perfection onstage. Yes. Positive, spiritual without being religious, and they take your soul on incredible journeys, even after hearing a song a hundred plus times. TY for this reaction!!

    My favourite bass player in the world is Geddy Lee (Rush). The bass player in Yes is Chris Squire, who is Geddy Less's favourite bass player. Just within the last year or so I read an interview with Geddy and Alex Lifeson (guitar player in Rush) where they describe the one time in their lives when they queued up overnight to get tickets to see Yes in concert at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

    YES did quite a few longer songs, like this one, but while they repeated themes and choruses and stretched them out a bit, they always changed them up enough to make you appreciate _once again_ what they were putting together in a way that impresses. I know you'll be trying more YES classics in the future and you will be just impressed once again...and again...and again :)
    The big thing was the way they mixed together a dominating Industrial-Melodic bass line+eclectic drumming+a unique vocals sound featuring soaring harmonies with a pop accent. Weird but absolutely beautiful...

    Subscribed in hopes you'll see this. Yes is a really progressive band, with a long history, so there's a lot to get through it you're into them.
    Many reactors to them tend to do something like you did, then their comments sections fill up with recommendations for Close to the Edge (CttE). I truly believe you'll like them, and CttE, better if you stick to their early hits first, mainly Roundabout (an absolute must), Your Move/All Good People, and the one inexplicably nearly no other reaction video has covered: Long Distance Runaround/The Fish (one definitely leads into the other, ending abruptly without The Fish)
    Hit those three before CttE or Awaken. You'll thank me.
    And the stuff in the mid 80's has completely different sound and feel, mainly due to the (temporary) change in guitarists. Sad their only #1 hit was from this era

    I see the reaction video genre as a introduction to music course. I see the reactors as students of music history and also as mentors to millions of people around the world who are yearning for something new and better than what the media industry is shoving in our faces. When I go to stores and hear new music... I HATE IT. I Leave many places because the music is so bad. BAD. The music of the 60's and 70's is Wild Stuff. Soo experimental and the lyrics too are crazy weird. I Love that!! I miss that. When I was growing up my mom was a zappa fan. She danced with him at the filmore east. We had a poster of frank sitting on a toilet bowl in our bathroom next to the toilet. We sang along to Billy was a mountain (just another Band from LA. ) Those were the days.

    It looks like someone's cheating you out of the whole album - that's how you need to listen to this. NOT do a reaction - but just crawl into a REPLAY loop and listen to the whole album for a few days. This was the era was Album Rock was THE thing and for good reason. Fans are only cheating themselves by not giving themselves enough time for entire albums. (By the way, this group performed this entire album - and their others - live, on-stage, doing pretty drop-dead perfect renditions.

    • @BuffaloC305
      @BuffaloC305 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you see their live shows from the '80s into the 2000's, you'll often see only one keyboard player (Rick Wakefield is the most famous/infamous of them) and one guitarist, playing a hollow-body Jazz with pedals. The lead singer would sometimes do acoustic rhythms in those quiet portions, on-stage. The band had some lineup changes from time to time, with the originals coming in and going out, but always with the same lead singer (John Anderson) and the sorely-missed Chris Squire. The lead guitarist left for a vacation period, and the replacement guitarist scored on a couple of hit singles in the late '80s, and then there are performances with both of them - separated by a wide WIDE stage, I might mention, wink wink.
      The late Sixties brought out 'unorthodox' especially in keyboards because electronics were being perfected. It'd be another 10 years before those normalized but George Harrison was one of the money-spending leaders for that niche. The Moody Blues had a Moog Synthesizer (which is effectively keys playing tape-loops - hold down the key, the tape loop plays longer) which was fairly new. Then there were Emerson Lake & Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, King Crimson and YES powering that 'progressive rock' movement that often eschewed guitars entirely, or put them back into support-only roles. This was fairly different because the other side of the Rock Coin was all guitar-centric - think Hendrix, etc. Festival posters will often show a widely divergent band lineup - you could dance to some, trip-out to others. And/or both.
