On the evening of November 29, 1964, 2 years before the fight, Williams was shot in the stomach by a highway patrolman, for supposedly resisting arrest. The . 357 magnum bullet moved across his intestines and lodged in his right hip, doing immense damage to his colon and right kidney.
Then Ali had a Hernia that on Nov. 19 1964 for a rematch with Liston was cancelled. Then Williams found himself fighting for his life a week later. That stinks of rubbish. They knew that Clay would win the rematch because the Fix was in play. But they didn’t know what to do about mandatory challenger. So they purposefully cancelled the fight on the news Ali has a Hernia. No proof came to fruition. So they had taken Ali greatest threat of the title because he was not prepared to loose for a fix. So they attempted to kill him & his manager was on the fix, Bud Adams. These circumstances don’t just happen it was all done by design.

these events come in to place so well it doesent make any sense for them to be upon non thoughted plans that werent discussed in the offices it was setups

That’s correct, whether the fight between Sonny Liston v Muhammad happens in Boston or in Mayne. The outcome was the same, it was meant to delay the fight by a few more months, to ensure Ali didn’t face a prime Williams. Then when the fight was to take place between Ali v Williams, guess what his surgical costs & hospital expenses were garnished before walking out to face Ali. To add insult to injury Williams would have been told by Bud Adams and Co. you will see something if you eat punches and loose. So he walked around like a moving boxing bag. The same fix was set for Williams as it was for Liston.

Cleveland Williams is the reason why my Left hook is the best punch and why I am a hard hitter in Boxing

  • @JCATG

It never ceases to amaze me that Sonny Liston consider him the hardest puncher he ever fought-even remarking that Williams was so muscular that “even his eyelids had muscles” which I personally find hilarious-and George Foreman consider him as among the three hardest punchers he had encountered (alongside Gerry Cooney and Ron Lyle).
If lifeʼs misfortunes had not come his way during his prime and he was trained to be in the best condition and technicality, I am most certain that he could have beaten both Liston and Ali and become the world heavyweight champion.
Rest in Peace to the 'Big Cat.' God bless him and his loved ones.
And thank you for uploading this video tribute about him! I always loved watching his matches. Those left hooks were fast and ferocious!

One thing I noticed watching this tribute is Williams came out from his corner into middle of the ring in the same fashion. But you can see speed of leg movement as he was fighting Chuvalo.

i put a couple clips in the beginning of his corner start so people could see his style hands up wide left in fron and right by face for parrying during the chuvalo fight his speed wasnt the same but he still had a little bit but nothing like he used to

Sometimes life isn't fair at all. Many of these boys from the Ali era would probably be Champions today. Williams, Folley, Bonavena. Several that I am probably forgetting. I own copies of many of these films. Cleveland Williams was a bad ass!
