Fact: Victor Hugo's Les Misérables is a story about inequality in France. Jean Valjean, a well-meaning thief turned factory owner, tries to help the dying Fantine, a young single mother, but is arrested. He finds Cosette, Fantine's daughter out of wedlock, and rescues her from dismal circumstances.
I had friends that always talked about this musical, Les Miserables, 30 years ago. I never really cared for it. But this film actually was pretty good. I didn't know Hugh Jackman could sing.
First, this is from a book. Second, it's after the Revolution and Napoleon reign, during the monarchic restauration beetween 1815 and 1830. Laws were quite hard and vengeful against any form of mobs, errandry and thief, by fear of the poors and to protect property (many rich people were expelled and robbed during the Revolution). It was also the time of the Industrial revolution in France, with the same effect than everwhere : more poor in cities, even more inequality than before.
I never expected a recap of Les Misérables
But yay right
Imagine Hugh Jackman doing Wolverine the Musical!
6 years later, he did another musical.
