Lamp looks100% identical! Memories being made with your parents, which is priceless. Can't wait to see bedroom re-do reveal next week ,& by the way great narration voice.
Just found your channel yesterday and have been binging shamelessly. Thoughtful planning, precise construction, and immaculate results with every project. EXCELLENT and illustrative instructions. Your talents are beyond impressive across the board and you are a wonderful teacher. Just commenting to say thanks and boost the algorithm to get you some more well-deserved views. And I absolutely love your supportive parents!
Yeah baybeeeee!! I just love the way you'll take on a challenge and jump right in and make it work even though you've never done it before... doing is what gets it done!
I like the juxtaposition of the modern looking light fixture in that more traditional space. The draping of the electrical cord is well done. I made a light fixture for client to hang over an island, and made it in a way that it looked like an oil lamp that had been converted to electricity and we got some cloth wrapped twisted electrical cord and ran it in a similar way to the lamps. That shade turned out fantastic, I wasn't fussy about the wood base, but when on and in your chamber it does suit.
Ooh your lamp sounds super cool! And I’m glad you like mine! It feels a little weird at the moment - but I have faith that with all of the other elements I have planned for the room, it’s gonna come together
WOW. Yours looks better than the inspo ! Also.......DANG ! I have tried a similar shade in the past and totally understand the mental athletics. For those attempting this at home, take the suggestion of working up a prototype first, especially if you have bought some nice paper. And when ready. CLEAN YOUR SURFACE and WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST (or wear latex gloves) we don't need any unwanted oil stains on the beautiful artwork you have created. Cannot wait to see what's next.
It look seamless. I think you have such a great eye for balancing simple and more ornate design elements. I'm really enjoying your videos, I love that you actually care about repurposing materials and for that reason among many others I'll always come back for more videos. Glad your channel is gaining traction you deserve it !
What makes this better than the inspo is the fact that you did it! It's beautiful. The priciceness and dedication to taking this all the way is astounding. Good on you!
LED bulbs can be super harsh (not to mention unflattering) so better to live in filtered light! Sounds like you and your husband have a great thing going!
Looks great! You can get on/off switches that can install right on the lamp cord. The switch is a small wheel that is turned to click the lamp on or off. They're inexpensive, very quick to install and are available in the lamp parts section of the hardware store. Also, you could put your fireproofing solution in a spray bottle and spritz the finished shade very lightly, letting it dry and spritzing again a few times.
Yes,I was going to suggest spritzing _afterwards_ as a potential option. Though some spray bottles are a bit inconsistent and it'd be grim to get blobs after all that folding... 🥴 I think one of those incredibly fine 'constant misters' that hairdressers use might do the trick. The droplet size is uniform and positively minute. Either way, this lamp is magnificent, @REISSUED! 🤍
That is so elegant and sleek! I love it, and I love that you started with other people's designs and turned them around to your own interpretation. Excellent.
That is absolutely beautiful. It has a bright warm yet very soft light. I would have ended up wadding it up, hucking it out the window and gleefully running over it in my driveway but you really pulled this off. Very nicely done!
Haha I almost reached that point after folding 6 prototypes/mistakes before arriving at the right folds. But sometimes you gotta power through! I’m glad you like it ❤️
I love your channel! I’m also in the process of renovating an older home and trying to modernise features while still maintaining the original, beautiful details and design. It’s a balancing act. I also love that your parents are such a big part of the project. Thank you for sharing 😊
I watch your videos sometimes twice, you always have great ideas. A lot of trial and error here, but the lamp turned out better than your inspiration piece. I have no patience for this so I really have to hand it to you. You are so creative and ambitious. Kudos Andrew.. I’m impressed with what it cost you as opposed to the original.
Agreed - I absolutely _love_ Andrew's channel. 🖤 There's only a handful of channels I sub to (out of several 100s!) where I have notifications ticked to 'All" - and Andrew's is one of them. He's such a charming discovery... 😄
Andrew, i really like the Wooden Base. It's amazing how well you, Mom and Dad work together. It is a joy to see, my friend. Have a fantastic day! Kindest regards - Don
As always, the composition of your video is excellent, the journey is fun, and the result is inspirational! Yours is my favorite channel and I can't wait to see the bedroom!
You’re such a beautiful gentleman. I realise it’s not the norm to call a man beautiful but, I think you are. The shade looks stunning and in my opinion, better than the original. I’ve only just found you and I’m so excited to watch your other videos. Hugs to you from England. xxx
Well done and so clever. BTW, I love your sense of humor and hope you are as warm and friendly as you appear on camera ☺. Your videos are a joy to watch.
Thank you so much! I try to keep it warm and friendly - although there has been a lot of stress with the bedroom reno 😱😜 It’s gonna be worth it though 🤞🏻
Whaat? That looks beautiful! Great job. You earned the price of the store version because I'd have started weeping silently three folds into the process. LOL
Your videos came up on my TH-cam suggestion list so I subscribed. After watching so many Stewart Hicks and Phil Edwards videos, I guess the algorithm figured out I had a “type.” lol All the best to you and your endeavors! *hugz*
Always looking forward to your videos. Apart from being a great artist you have a sense of humor. "Reissued: where we make things more complicated than they should be"🤣🤣🤣 Love the lamp and the fireplace is looking AMAZING! Can't wait for that video to come out. Wonderful sense of style plus the patience required to execute it to perfection. Excellent combination of qualities. Thank you for sharing your house journey with us.
Very Nice Andrew. I'm not sure what rag content or weight of paper you're using. But using a folding or burnishing bone really helps in making 'crisp' edges for paper folding projects of all kinds. (A few bucks) Years ago, I used a handmade Mulberry paper from Japan to make some lamps with very thin balsa wood structures with varying success. I approached the 'flame proofing' 2 ways. 1. Use an acrylic gel medium to coat the paper & 2. Used a "standard to chandelier" socket reducer to be able to use a smaller diameter and wattage bulb. That works especially well for atmospheric lighting. I may have mentioned this before but I have a bit of a lamp fetish! LOL Another great project Andrew! Cheers.
That turned out beautifully. Good instructions, too. PS: I wonder if you folded the paper, then treated it would work. Maybe leaving it folded (like tie-dye) when treating. LED bulbs are cool enough the flame-retardant paper is much less a concern than with the old typical incandescent bulbs.
Andrew, the shade turned out beautifully! What a great idea! You are just so talented! I can't wait for next weeks video! P.S. That's so nice to have your parents here and to lend a hand! That's so wonderful! Great job!❤
@@REISSUED I love it! I bet the bedroom turned out beautifully like everything else I've seen. Stay cool, temp is possibly 105 with the humidity today!😫
Looks really cool! Definitely saving this video to try later! Also, the piano music in your videos always remind me of the sims 1 music (definitely a good thing)
While your comment made me laugh, "Where I make things more complicated than they have to be...", or something along those lines, I think you did great and I learned so much from watching you. I love those types of lamps, but the price tag seems to be high. Yes, it took some time, but it turned out fantastic! Great job.
OMG, so entertaining! Kudos on your perseverance -- but my question is: did you enjoy the process? Also it just makes my heart joyful that your parents join in your DIY projects.
This video was amazing and really helpful, thank you so much! Do you think you could do a tutorial on how to fold the first prototype on the left for a more curved lamp? :D
YOU: $168 is too much! I'll show you how to make it at home. ME: Hells Bells! I'll gladly spend $168 instead of trying what you make seem easy but I know will explode and burn when I try.
What a wonderful lamp. Does the paper have to be of a particular thickness? Also, instead of hard wiring you could just have one of those battery operated smart bulbs, it would look much cleaner on a shelf and Alexa can still turn it on.
If you said, I missed it, but how long did this process take, from the time you started folding your first sheet of paper to the time you turned on this beautiful creation? Of course, I would have to track down a base and lamp parts as well. I can see it taking me a month!
Hey there! The folding process definitely took me a bit of practice and the testing and prototyping are up a couple house of my life 😂 But the actual finished folding took me under an hour. And the assembly was pretty quick too!
Rather than have a cord is there a battery solution you could use to make it more versatile ? But loving the result Do you know what weight the paper is ? Usually measured in gsm Good job
Hi, enjoying your videos! Question…how would you help a brown leather couch, great shape but needs some reconditioning…can you suggest what product to use. THANKS!
The lamp looks beautiful. The amount of work that went into it boggles my mind. I can never follow even the simplest origami instructions, so I’m impressed! But what about your ceiling light? Those hanging cords make it look messy, not chic, imo. Can’t you wrap them around the arms on the light? Why are they there, anyway?
Thank you so much! The ceiling fixture is a bit of a conundrum - the cords all come out of the bottom rods to connect to the arms- just how the lamp is made. I hear ya about it looking a bit messy, but with my vision for the rest of the room, I think it’s gonna come together and feel purposeful 🤞🏻
You are not making things complicated, you are an artist figuring things out. It's always a process. Love the lamp!
Thanks Nancy! It just always feels like I take the simplest thing and make it so much harder 😂 Worth it though 🙌🏻
You can fireproof the already folded paper by spraying it with the borax solution in a spray bottle.
Was thinking the same thing!
Great tip! Thank you so much!
"Where we make everything more complicated than it needs to be" - words I live by!
Haha exactly!

Aw thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Your words of support mean so much. So glad you found me! Welcome! ❤️
What an absolute cool idea. The end result looks amazing, storebought & designer. Well done.
Thanks Chris! ❤️❤️❤️
May I asked what your native language is?
Yeah baybeeeee!! I just love the way you'll take on a challenge and jump right in and make it work even though you've never done it before... doing is what gets it done!
A color changing bulb would be so cute. What a great DIY dude.
Mine does change colors! I should have shown that in the video!
The ceiling light is a work of art. I would like to see you put oragami shades onthere.

I love your "complicated" artwork. Beautiful design as always. And there's always something therapeutic about watching you work. ❤
I just love what you do for your home search inspiration…

You have a lot of patience. The lamp turned out great I would have given up long time ago. Great video.
Ms. B. Churchill
What makes this better than the inspo is the fact that you did it! It's beautiful. The priciceness and dedication to taking this all the way is astounding. Good on you!
Aw thank you!
This is genius! Truly a stunning lamp
Love how this turned out! My husband is very sensitive to led light bulbs so I shield them with paper inside the fixture! He would love your lamp!
LED bulbs can be super harsh (not to mention unflattering) so better to live in filtered light! Sounds like you and your husband have a great thing going!

Thank you so much! Yes… even though it would have been easier to keep things “uncomplicated,” I kind of love that I ended up finding my own way 🙌🏻
Very cute. You have lovely parents.
Wow, how awesome was that?!!! All his talent and $5 compared to the inspo lamps! Love it!
Aw thank you! Glad you like it!
The lamp turned out amazing! Thank you for sharing the process!
Cool. The ceiling fixture, too!

It’s a tough balance to find, but it’s such an honor to work with the beautiful historic details. Keep me posted on your renovation! ❤️
Cool! That would also be nice if the shade were made from Japanese mulberry paper. Nice work!

On the Sputnik light fixture, maybe you could tie the wires to it with black wire ties and see how you like it.
You have the most unique diy channel on TH-cam, and it’s so awesome to see your subscriber count starting to grow!! So well deserved!!

Beautiful job. You are amazingly talented!!!!
Bro is creative as F'. But I really give him extra points for having the patience for some of the tasks he does 🥱😮💨😵💫😓🥴

Hi Andrew wow wow loving this lamp but then I love everything you do can’t wait for the next one ❤Australia xx

Absolutely beautiful! You have the patience of a saint. I would have given up after the fire proofing debacle! 😂
Omg I'm in love with the lamp 🥰😍
Thank you so much!
This is the difference between crafting and designing.
Looks really cool! Definitely saving this video to try later! Also, the piano music in your videos always remind me of the sims 1 music (definitely a good thing)

Love the lamp! Would definitely like to try my hand at making one of these. Oh and the fireplace is looking amazing!!! ❤
Definitely give it a try and let me know how it goes! 🙌🏻
OMG, so entertaining! Kudos on your perseverance -- but my question is: did you enjoy the process?
Also it just makes my heart joyful that your parents join in your DIY projects.
I did enjoy it! Folding was a little respite from the stress lately. Highly recommend for a little mediation time 😊
Very, very nice!!!
This video was amazing and really helpful, thank you so much! Do you think you could do a tutorial on how to fold the first prototype on the left for a more curved lamp? :D
Hey there! I’m glad you found this helpful! I linked the videos I watched for the more rounded lamp shape in the description box! Give them a watch 🙌🏻
Love the lamp, well done! You’re so talented ❤️😊
Impressive!!
Well done.
You're very gifted. Subscribed.
Aw thank you! Glad to have you here ❤️
You did a fabulous job!
It is perfect!

Nice!!!
Mom hands son a ream of paper and a wooden disk and says "Son go create something unique". Mission accomplished mom!! 💖💖🎶🎶
Haha something like that 😂❤️
So cool. Love it!
WOWZER!!!!
I was going to do this for an old lamp but I forgot and did not finish it. I have to try again.
Yes! Let me know how it goes!
What a wonderful lamp. Does the paper have to be of a particular thickness? Also, instead of hard wiring you could just have one of those battery operated smart bulbs, it would look much cleaner on a shelf and Alexa can still turn it on.

I love the effect! I wonder if the fireproofing is best on a specific kind of paper?
Great question! That definitely might be the case 👍🏻
Love the ceiling light. Hate the cords?
You can get rechargeable lamps now and use a base from one of those. It's not going to cost $5 though 😅
THANKS!
I loved this, like all you deco. What paper did you use?
I wish I knew! The paper was in unmarked packaging in my moms house, so I’m not really sure about the paper weight and type 😭
I often more times than not to find myself in more complicated sitz than were necessary. If it feels too easy it's not art lol
You’re spot on with that last statement! 😭😂
Remember when you could get a fine made-in-America Tiffany lamp made of stained glass and fine brass for the price of a paper lamp now? LOL.

Um not sure of that black ceiling light fixture. Looks VERY out of place and the cords look too messy
