  • THE RIDING STYLE OF FREDDIE SPENCER
The three-time World Motorcycle Champion revolutionized the sport with a new riding style - a different way of finding speed. In this film he demonstrates just how he did it.

Great Video. Freddie was special indeed. My favourite rider, along with Marc Marqez.

I used to watch him race in Arkansas at the I-30 track he mentioned. He would smoke the Triumphs and BSA’s on his Bultaco 360 Pursang!

He seems to be so intelligent, really nice person, such a pity he didn’t have a longer chance on the Marlboro Yamaha

Got to be a LEGEND to win a 250 and 500 championship in one year. Two different riding styles. Point and squirt or maintain corner speed . Not many riders adapted from 250 to 500.

"Not many riders adapted from 250 to 500."
Not in the same season, but practically all the 500c riders graduated via the 250s. Forget "got to be a legend", he absolutely IS a legend.

Interesting video, and lots of his Marlboro Yamaha footage in it so it must have been from the 89/90 timeframe. I always wondered if it would have worked better for him if Erv had accompanied him on the transition to Yamaha. He had some strong starts, but faded as the race went on, it's a shame he didn't get settled on the bike. It must have been hard for him to see Eddie on his old bike with his tuner.

American documentary commentators are beyond terrible, and the guy narrating this video is no exception. Freddie on the other hand is intelligent, eloquent and communicates his ideas as he rode his bike - in the simplest manner possible.

Actually not, no. He last rode for Honda in '87. He retired from Grand Prix racing at the beginning of 1988, and there were a couple of GP comeback attempts with Yamaha, in 1989 and 1993.
