    I just bought a Sony A7C.
I wanted a fuji X100VI but don’t want to wait a year to receive it. I also don’t want to pay a premium for that camera.
I do street photography. I bought the Sony 35/2.8, 50/1.8, and 85/1.8. I feel like I’m covered. The A7C was $900 and the 35 about $250. So I have an interchangeable lens body with excellent autofocus for 75% of the X100VI. I never wanted or needed a full frame sensor body. Fuji doesn’t want me as a customer.

I got back into photography a few years ago with the Sony a7c. Still own it but rarely use it. I also have an a7iv. I also own a Fujifilm x100vI an x-e4 and an x-pro3. The recipes are not gimmicky at all. It’s great to be able to choose a recipe/film simulation and know what your shot will look like. My favorite recipe is the Acros film simulation and it is black and white.
I’m usually defending Sony because many people say Sony’s don’t have a soul like Fujifilm does and are only computers. There is a definite difference between the two brands but I enjoy the shooting experience with both. Sony’s autofocus is still way better than Fujifilm’s.
In regards to the x100vI, this camera offers me things that none of my other cameras do. It has a built in ND filter, built in flash, the ability to zoom/crop to a 50mm and 70mm full frame equivalent shot (with a drop of megapixels) without having to carry any additional filters, lenses or a flash. I also have been able to shoot at night. The x100vI is not meant to be a Swiss Army knife of a camera but no camera is.
The a7c is a great camera but you have to decide what type of shooting you are going to do with it. I love the FE 85mm f/1.8 on it. My favorite lens though is the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8. I did use it on the a7c for a bit but ended up getting the a7iv to make it more comfortable to hold. I haven’t tried the FE 40mm f/2.5 but it looks great with that lens hood.

Well said. Sounds like you’ve got a few different camera options! I guess I need to give the Fuji a try. I just think for someone just getting into photography, being stuck at one focal length might not be the best option. I think the Fuji is more for the experienced photographer.

@@g2shoots It depends. If you want a camera to capture family and travel photos without having to edit then I think it is the perfect camera. If you really want to learn everything about photography then the x100vI is a great companion camera to an interchangeable lens camera. A Fujifilm x-e4 or another x-e series camera would be great because you can try different focal lengths and have the film sims. Fujifilm s color science is great. An xt-30ii is another great choice.
The Sony a7c is great as well but I got caught up in the hype for an x100v. I wasn’t able to find one at retail so I ended buying an x-e4 before it was discontinued.

I’m a sony boy, i have two bodies and i shoot work mainly with them. I have a fuji XE4 as well, and i gotta say, the ONLY reason that is preventing me from selling it how phenomenal the recipes are and how easy it is to just shoot & post without the need for editing..
If sony made fuji-like recipes i’d sell my XE4 right away and get whatever body that has this feature.

You like the recipes that much? I’ve never used them, but thought it was a little gimmicky and would take away from the editing process that I really enjoy. I guess I’d have to try them out and see what they have to offer.

Sony A7C will do everything that 99% of photographers need a camera for. Love this thing. I have a hard time trying to justify an upgrade.

Good video...but...but,,,stop using the words "starter" or "beginner"camera...What does that mean anyway...I have been doing photography since the late 1960s...I currently use 2 A7c bodies ... and an even older A7s...mostly for still/street..(retired US service man in Bangkok LOL)...Cheers

A starter or beginner camera to people that have always been rich lol. I used an original canon 5d up until a few years ago lol. I remember when the original a7 came out and it was a pipe dream for me to be able to afford it. I still use 30-60 year old glass on my 7Riii mostly. My only AF lenses are EF mount adapted. The 1990 Canon 200 2.8 prime is still a beautiful piece of kit.

$1,600 is a lot of money - hardly what one should recommend to folks just starting in the hobby
Wouldn’t a Sony A6100 or A6400 have been a much more budget and beginner friendly investment?

    • @g2shoots
      @g2shoots  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The reason I went with the A7C is because I started on the a6400 and quickly found myself wanting to go full frame.
