The Native 5 is a great knife. S30V is an excellent steel for folders.

Just bought one yesterday (04/20/2023). I already have the S110V version in G10 and a LW in CPM-SPY27. I find it really surprising that I love the Native family so much. I love to fidget with my knives. That's why I really love my Shaman but I love my Native Chief and my Native 5s just as much.

This is basically the small version of the standard Native Chief or vice versa. The standard version of the Native Chief is the huge version of this knife. One thing I love about the Native is that it's so easy to disassemble and reassemble. I just took my Native Chief apart, cleaned everything inside, lubed the pivot and washers and put everything back together. No hassle whatsoever.

I know I’m late to the party, but I love my native 5’s! I’ll take the liners any day!

Well done, mate. You guys have to call out Spyderco for their prices. They make great knives but go 20% over the odds way too often.

Hi all. I cut 115 times rope ,thicknes of rope was arround 1cm, and still can cut paper, tested arroud 20 times on paper after rope. I think it says enough about knife quality...

Because of this knife I bought the shaman. Both my favorite Spyderco knives. The native is small that's why I am so happy with the shaman but its small and perfect in the hand. So if you need a small shaman buy the native.

I heard the only advantage of S35VN is the ease of machining. I like both S30V and S35VN, but, lately, both Spyderco and Benchmade have moved away from S35VN. I have no reason to distrust their motivations.

I have never had s35vn from spyderco. I have had it from other companies and prefer s30v. I dont get the price. I have a lightweight in lc200n. To me thats the one to go with especially for the steel option. I may end up picking up this linerless g10 version. We will see.

I bought a native 5 in S110V direct from Spyderco a few months ago. I think they showed it with metal liners, but it was just thicker G10 when I got it. Guess they are trying to lose some weight.

Awesome pickups. I just ordered an xm-18 a few weeks ago (DLT exclusive swedged spearpoint) and didn't get that cool mat. Is there any way to get one of these solo without buying another hinderer?

Could you please weigh that knife and let us know what you find? Spyderco lists it as 3.0 oz and the 110V version with liners as 3.7 oz. Thanks!

Metal Complex Yep, when they went linerless, I thought I was destined to get one. I ended up deciding that I didn’t need a knife of this size that wasn’t a great slicer. Ended up with the Sage 5 instead. But the Native seemed hard to beat for a small hard use price - before the price increase. Now I’m not so sure.

I really wish they would make a production model with liners. 5 yrs after this video aired... the Native in g-10 is retailing at $202.

@notifysend1015 yeah... personally, I appreciate a little heft in my knife. I like something that feels "solid". I wouldn't shy away from an extra ounce, I don't think.

Price doesn't make sense compared to the Manix 2. Same materials but the Manix is $40 cheaper.

With regards to the washers running directly on G10, what are your thoughts on the Lightweight versions which have no washers. The blade runs directly on FRN.

I have the frn salt version and it’s fine without the washers. I just took it apart and added a little oil to the space between and it’s still quite smooth.

One thing that irritates me about spyderco’s is the little raised area at the top of the hole from the flat grind like on my para 2 . It digs into your fingernail when flipping them open. They need to do it like the shaman.

I was interested in picking one these up in G10 with S35VN, S30VN or S110V. I am not sure which steel to choose for good edge retention and to refrain from chipping. I am considering this knife due to size, shape and back lock. It will be a gift for my dad because he is used to back lock and left handed. Any guideline will be appreciated. Elias

So they lowered the steel quality from S35 to S30, removed the steel liners, and then raised the price for a knife that now cost less to produce?
I have a $39 knockoff, that were it not for the oval hole instead of round, and the branding marked TACNWO instead of Spyderco, made with S35 steel and black G10, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. And I don't feel guilty at all for buying it. Spyderco has plenty of my money anyway.
