Thank you guys for finding the gravestone of my 3 x great grand parents and 2 more relatives, all on the one gravestone behind the one in the narrow section you looked at with the stone bible on. I just saw enough to know the surnames, Kellet and Wilkinson and the dates to know they were my relatives. They lived on Wakefield Road near the church. My great grandfather Sam Tattersall lived in Metcalfe Street adjacent to the church and met and married Eliza Wilkiinson, daughter of Joseph Wilkinson enscribed on the gravestone. Have now been to see and photograph the headstone to add to my family history research. Many thanks for you superb work in showing people the victoriana legacy they left behind.
My Auntie Pat & Uncle John were married at that church, it looks funny/different without the roundabout there. I used to live on the same street as Mr Tetley. It's only about the last year that I found out about Bowling cemetery.
The headstones look fine. My grandparents house in Wetley Hill had headstones as the cellar foors...the writing was placed face down but discovered when fixing burst pipes.
When i was younger i distinctly heard it mentioned in relation to relations of my mums or dads that a Graveyard had been dug up to make way for a housing estate, this would have been in the 70's or 80's My mums family are mainly buried in Bowling and my dads in Scholemoor, i cannot think of any new housing estates, in my dads home area of Thornton and Gt Horton but my mum lived up Buttershaw so it was the other side of Bradford to my dad and in that area Holmewood would have been built around that time, or they could have meant the St Johns Church Cemetery, and it could have been the road widening as opposed to a housing estate.
I agree it’s disrespectful and costs involved for a grave plot and headstone just disregarded. I wonder if they consulted the families before they did the move? I will be cremated too.
I'm glad you do this boys you bring these people back to life for a short time keep it up ! 👍

some were 200 years old remains even in the 60s so not much left of them, bit of jaw, few toes, easy to fit in a shoe box
Find it sad I'm glad I'm getting cremated can't dig me up or move my headstone find it disrespectful to be honest
It does make you think twice!
