      Nobody knows why the wheel works. Does that mean we all have a problem. Closer to home, nobody understands AI and how it arrives at solutions, problem? You do not need to understand why it works as long as you know what imput it accepts and what output to expect ... and the most important, that it passes all the tests.

    It doesn't matter if it was cliche. Hearing "don't give up" from the RIGHT person can make all the difference - the "right" person in this case being *you* ... i.e. someone with experience in the field. As opposed to my mum telling me not to give up - as I'd expect it from her, and likely brush it off because she isn't a programmer & can't *specifically* relate. Someone out there will need to hear it, so don't be afraid to be cliche now and again :P

    One of the keys to learning anything hard is the *power of repetition.* Repetition is a close relative of _perseverence_ which is _the_ key ingredient to overcome hard challenges. Some people need more repetition than others (which is why your experience may differ from others) but we _all_ need repetition to cement skills.
    It's repetition that eventually lets you experience the so-called “aha moments” when you suddenly connect the dots, and level up. But without proper rest in between, as Stefan talks about in this video, repetition doesn't work. Sometimes you just need to walk away so your brain has time to process and digest information. Suddenly a few hours later, or perhaps after a few days, the solution to your problem appears (the “aha”) as if it had always been there.

    I mean, I think it's important to look back at how far you have come. Whenever I feel like I'm not a good programmer which I am still an amateur. I forget sometimes how much I do understand now since I started and because I have been finding time to do a bit of it each week, that reasures me. Therefore, going by that logic if you keep building up those hours, programming will start to become more comfortable, until one day your brain will wire and form the correct nueronal pathways to be a good programmer.

    I absolutely agree! Never give up and you'll make it...in any goal that you may have. As a rookie coder (little more than a year), I've been through too many roadblocks. I like to use TH-cam, Google, Stack Overflow and lots of trial & error to solve problems, and it always ends up working out. When it's a serious roadblock, I always seem to figure it out the next morning after I've had some sleep. (Although I hate going to sleep without first having figured out the issue 😂.) It's such a great natural high when I'm able to solve a coding problem. Never thought I'd say this, but I like coding more than playing Madden 😂😂. Take care.

      @@cautarepvp2079 coding Its like bodybuilding, you can't get six pack abs and great body in few months, it takes time. You need strong discipline and grit to keep following a routine. Not everyone can follow it for years. In my opinion, some people should not become developers. For example, in reddit I read a post of the type of person that Should not and can't become a developer. He was looking into learning to become a developer to "have free time" and earn a lot at the side to have free time to follow his true passion for music producing.
      This is a myth becoming a developer will give you a lot of free time making a lot of money. The learning curve is very steep and takes a long time to learn and become good at it. It's not like marketing that you can become good enough in a couple of months and just keep working. You will have to invest a lot of free time and sacrifice your hobbies and even social life when you are starting. To keep been relevant and compete. There is myth as well that you will earn a lot of money starting out. When I started doing freelancing I was competing with people willing to take Minimum Wage as well competed with a software engineer who graduated and was a magna cum laude, even he was asking 2/3 of what I was asking. People want things cheap and fast. So in order to compete, you have to constantly improve to bring more value, especially if you are self-taught.

Take it as a friendly constructive comment if you would please, but lately when I listen to you I get the constant annoying feeling that you’re holding back burps (barrages of them actually). Sorta like a giant volcano that’s about to burst with a humongous explosion of gas that somehow at the very last moment gets to be averted. I’m only bringing this to your attention because after a while it becomes incredibly distracting, especially when the content of your videos are so insightful and educational. I don’t know if you suffer from gastrointestinal problems (reflux syndrome, gastritis etc.) or if it’s due to too much coffee, or if it’s an emotional manifestation of sorts?! And heaven knows none of us is perfect, but if you could control that a bit while making videos, they’ll be much more enjoyable to watch.

      Hmmm ... interesting. I am not holding back burps. I am swallowing though ... I am going to ask if other people here this? Thanks for letting me know. I might move to a dynamic mic that has less detail.

    • @NothingMaster
      @NothingMaster 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stefan Mischook: Yes, I like your description better; it does feel more like you’re swallowing them. Didn’t think of it, but it could indeed be a mic related artifact, or at least a personal habit that’s exasperated by it. Anyway, best of luck and keep those wonderful videos coming.

    You do have my like. However, i would have appreciated to have a counter point of view. One does not simply learn code for the fun of it. Selecting the field you will work in, and stick to the plan is pretty much of a big deal. Coding for fun and doing experiments doesnt make time a critical constraint. You could learn a little bit everyday for years, ultimately you would become good at it. I mean infinite time means infinite skill. But what if you run out of time? Is giving up always a bad thing? How can you be sure you are not stopping yourself from thriving in another field?

    It's the same with learning foreign languages.
    I as a language learning enthusiast taught english to several dozens of my friends. Majority didn't even open materials that I sent them.
    Only one person reached 1 week of studies mark. It was the person with whom I spent least amount of time and didn't reach out to check for two weeks. (Usually I did the opposite)
    I thought she gave up long ago.
    Wow
    That girl continued for additional two month before she got severe ear infection and had to give up studies.

    Recently started listening to web development podcasts and an interesting topic came up. Design skills. So i went online to a website and took a design with a lot of fancy animations to try and build it myself. But i wasn't able to, which begs the question how much design skills do i need to have as a fullstack web developer

    • @StefanMischook
      @StefanMischook  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can be an amazing full stack developer with little design skills. Use templates, partner with great designers and just implement their designs.

    #1 Accept the fact you are going to hit roadblocks.
    #2 when you hit a roadblock, you are going to need some time. If you can't go through it, take a break.
    TIP: when you are in peak-performance mode, work. When you are not, don't work, rest.
    #3 Starting out is the hardest time. You are building muscles (learning how to think as a programmer.)
    #4 DON'T GIVE UP. The number one thing that causes people to fail is GIVING UP. Tenacity and consistency are key.

    What works for me is to learn before i go to sleep and when i wake up i magically understand better.
    I want your oppinion on learning to code on later ages ,i mean i am 43 for example ,i am not talking about the abillity or memory i am asking about how can a veteran be received by the industry with no experience.
    Is it possible for an old dog to get in?
    What are the possibilities for some one like me after learning only html,css,javascript.

      You're starting from the wrong end. Take the JavaScript and start learning data structures and algos. It will make your life easier. If you can't learn them, learn to draw them first. Coding will come with understanding.
