In this interview, Arshan caught up with Sugarhill rapper, DD Osama, during KTO’s most recent trip to New York. DD Osama quickly rose to notoriety after dropping “Dead Opps” featuring his brother, Notti Osama. Notti was tragically m*rdered the same month the video for “Dead Opps” released & went viral, racking up almost 5 million views to date. The song “E4N” featuring DD Osama and collaborators like Edot Baby, Sugarhill Ddot, & his brother JStar Balla, was released shortly after & dedicated to Notti. DD later dropped “40s N 9s”, which has almost 4 million streams on Spotify alone, while his recent video for “Back to Back” ft Dudeylo has over 2.3 million views in less than 2 weeks.
During their conversation, DD talks about coming from a YZY Shades event before his interview, not listening to Ye when he was younger, and growing up in Sugarhill, Harlem. They discuss his previews videos and interviews with youtubers like Buba100x and Noticuz, before DD talks about being inspired by his brother, JStar Balla, to start rapping. He lists his top 5 rap GOATs, including Lil Durk, Polo G, Rod Wave, Lil Baby, & Lil Zay Osama, before mentioning how his brother, Notti, passed away right as DD was blowing up. He talks about how Notti’s passing affected him before discussing how his song “40s N 9s” went viral. DD describes what he looks for in a beat, reveals his mom’s thoughts on him rapping, & talks about dropping out of school.
DD then addresses the rumors of his Lil Durk feature, before talking about having a large female fanbase & envious male fans. He talks about the benefits of having a diverse fanbase, describes his craziest interactions with female fans, & tells the story of a fan crying when meeting him. He young he can get a GED and he’ll be good. I lost my brother at 17 and I ended up dropping out due to the environment and where my head was at. My heart said stay in school but my mind couldn’t handle everything. Time does go quicker. I guess it’s something about being numb and you’re just trying to find that happiness that u once felt with your siblings even though it prob wasn’t perfect but hits hard especially if they were your best friend.
