Opinions on the ending are 50/50. Ive met people who've either really liked it or really hated it. In my opinion its not a good question to ask cause you should judge it based on how YOU saw the anime :D
That's also why I believe his void was made to absorb the illnesses of others. It'll have a negative toll on his body, but he's saving the other party from suffering. I wouldn't call that wimpy if you ask me!
In the near future, I plan on rewatching Guilty Crown because I wasn't in the best midset for it whenever I first watched it. Definitely not as bad as many people claim, I just didn't get to fully enjoy it at the time. Awesome AMV, by the way.
guilty crown is a dropped egg- it had the opportunity to hatch into something that will define anime for the next decade- amazing visuals, epic soundtrack, a good story, awesome characters, and yet, in the end, because of some asshole in charge, it ended up as probably one of the greatest clusterfucks in the history of anime. guilty crown should be remembered -as an example of how to NOT end an anime.

I hated Shu too, at first. But then I thought about it more, why would he suddenly change? That "hitlerisation" of Shu was necessary because he is indeed afraid. He's afraid of dying within that cage that GHQ set up, and after witnessing Hare's death he needed to make an efficient system where he and his fellow students can survive and escape. Remember, he's very weary of what people think of him. Despite that, he's willing to absorb the hatred because he knows he's doing the right thing.

I liked the ending. Although it leaves no room for a second season, it leaves the 22 episodes complete as a masterpiece.
