I went to the Shepton Mallet carnival this year, and it was incredible as always! The work all the clubs do to present the carts and other performers in between them, just shows human nature at its best. Proper old-school, timeless entertainment. It's so little publicised, I never knew about it until I was taken a few years ago, and I couldn't believe the scale of it! The carts are enormous and amazing... and they keep coming ! There's not just two or three or ten, there's dozens! All are wonderful. Everyone should see this in person, because I don't think any video can do them justice. Thank you for a great behind the scenes film, and thank you to all the teams and organisers.
Hi Jemma there's a lot of time and work goes into running the Carnival, it's unbelievable the work you do Jemma. It makes your truck driving work look easy..💯
Fair play, most don't know of the work, commitment and pride that goes into the carnival. Having lived in the area and worked with many carnivalites for over 20yrs, I can only applaud.
Just started watching your videos and, as a new pass class 2 with pretty much zero experience, I’m in awe of how you manoeuvred that monster through those narrow streets with such amazing skill. That was phenomenal 😮
thank you and welcome. confidence grows in time its not something that can be rushed. its a job where you will still learn new things after 20 years :)
That was different! Thank you for posting, really interesting. I knew about the carnival but had no idea how huge and sophisticated the floats are. A real credit to all those involved.
Thank you. Yes it’s like a little Somerset secret☺️ it’s fantastic, I’ve been very lucky to have grown up with it. Don’t know what I’d do with out it ☺️
Great video! The most spooky thing about technical failures is problems that just disappear. We once experienced (many years ago) that the engine suddenly stopped. Multiple start attempts failed. Two hours later when everyone had already gone home the problem just disappeared. All the years since then, the engine is working fine!
Yes it is odd when that happens. It’s like when your out in a truck and tell the garage you have a problems with it and when you take it in it won’t do it for them 😫🤣🤣
I grew up with Warminster carnival, always wanted to go to Bridgwater, we failed this year, but watched it all on YT and liked Jungle Maya best. A brilliant insight - thank you & well done 👏👑
It’s such a great thing to be involved in! Thank you! Means a lot,. We weren’t in the running for winning (only the none winners cup🤣) but we had a great season ☺️☺️
Well done great little video with some insightful commentary of the pitfalls and joy of getting around town on the big night....Cheers to all invovled.
Wow, this was really interesting, as I've recently joined Shambles cc it's awesome seeing behind the the scenes as I've watched carnival most of my life and I'm only recently realising all the hard work and time put into the carts and processions. Hope this year's build is going good for you and your club, can't wait to see all the carts out at Bridgwater come November (as I've never been to that carnival before)
Yes it’s crazy the amount of work and number of people involved. It’s great though. We are still dismantling at the moment and raising the funds for this years. I’m really excited about this years theme ☺️☺️
Excellent video, interesting and informative,I’m on Glastonbury carnival committee and was marshalling at Bridgwater on the corner before the start line, your cart looked amazing, will say hello when I see you, look forward to more great vids on your channel 👍
Yes please come and say hello! Glastonbury has always been one of my favourite carnivals. At the end of Glastonbury carnival this year the Marshalls were great. They came and spoke to us and we knew exactly what was going on and where they wanted us to go and really polite. Thank you ☺️
Damn! Lived in Bridgwater in 2007/8...i remember the carnival lol obviously don't know if you were doing it back then, but remember it was a big event there amazing to see you are still doing this.. and seeing parts of the town memories.. 😎 😎 😎
Yes I have grow up around the vagabonds carnival club. That was before I got my licence but I was road crewing on those years. 2007 we done circus and 2008 we done American Indians. It’s definitely a massive thing in Bridgwater, to me it is better than Christmas ☺️☺️
Thank you! I would have let so many people down that had put so much in the building the cart if I didnt at least have a go at getting it round. I’m so glad it paid off ☺️
This just popped up on my feed, absolutely love seeing the behind the scenes of carnival clubs and I really enjoyed your entry this year as I watched it in Bridgwater. Can’t wait to see what you guys do next year. Already counting down the days 🎉
I’m glad it did! Thank you! And thank you for watching and commenting. The ideas for next year are in but are top secret until Carnival. I’m really excited for it already though 😁😁
Loved this video! Sadly due to my shift pattern I normally see the carts leaving Weston lights off beacons on driver looking cold and sometimes wet! Keep up the good work..... and I will try and get a carnival night off in 2023!
Thank you! That is a shame. Weston carnival was really busy this year and surprisingly dry but yes you’re right it can be horrible in that drivers seat when the weather is bad. Hope you get to see it one year
This is another one of those "Things you didn't know you really needed to know." Came for the carting grain around the byways of England, staying for the village Mardi Gras circuit. 😀
How you managed to thread all that through those narrow streets is beyond me! I think we would call it a float up here in Lancashire. I want to see this years carnival, so do put some dates on your channel please.
They are called carts for our carnival as they were originally horse and carts so the name has stayed. There is lots of information on the Bridgwater carnival website if you were thinking of visiting ☺️
Thanks Jemma, of course check the website! We should be drilled up by then, so a good chance we can make it. Cart as in horse and cart makes sense too, makes you wonder why we call them floats. Really interesting videos and lovely scenery, but challenging roads for driving!
Thanks Scott! Really don’t know how all you guys that put videos out regularly do it! It’s so much work. We still have 2 carnivals left but if not there is always next year ☺️
I havent been for a number of years and when I have been have only been to Glastonbury. However the opposition party aka daughter, should be off to Uni so hopefully will have time to get down to Somerset for Carnival season. The Carts are so amazing. In Sussex are carnivals are totally different, with walkers with flaming torches, and we have a have a few floats. I know how hard it is to build a small modest float - its just no comparison so I have no idea how difficult it must be doing a 100ft cart. Definitely go and see. The videos are great well done Jemma.
Hey Jemma. I was parked overnight in Highbridge a few weeks ago and saw all the carts leaving Burnham. I'd never seen anything like it before! Really fascinating to see. I'd love to see the carnival taking place. It was me waving at you last week in Bridgewater in the Volvo. 😀
@@jemmawarren27 yes, I love anything like that. Bradbury's, who I work for, are real old school. Everything is painted and signwritten the traditional way.
Well done - Jemma & Dad good to see the fairer sex driving the cart , 😊 good on you Gal I Drove for many years for one of the Wessex Clubs , Shepton Wells & Glastonbury , in the Somerset circuit . Well done for giving a Drivers view - carnival to 100 foot carts . Yes cold & wet at times - & can be stressful at times . Part of the fun , so they tell me 😂 Well done again , for the video . Kind regards Steve B , retired from carnival duties . 😂
I think the drivers and road crew are sometimes the forgotten hero’s. Like you say it not pleasant at times but it is a rewarding feeling and yes we certainly have a laugh. What club were you involved with? Thank you for your kind comments ☺️

I love watching your videos on how a carnival cart works
Brilliant Jemma it’s certainly an eye opener to see what goes on behind the scenes and how much support you guys give each other well done 👍
Hi Jemma there's a lot of time and work goes into running the Carnival, it's unbelievable the work you do Jemma. It makes your truck driving work look easy..💯
Brilliant work Jemma. I went to the Bridgewater Summer fair in 1967 and remember riding the big wheel. Unfortunately I have not been to the Carnival.
I thank you very much for taking the trouble to make this clip it's very interesting and everyone involved should be proud of what they have achieved.
Fair play, most don't know of the work, commitment and pride that goes into the carnival.
Having lived in the area and worked with many carnivalites for over 20yrs, I can only applaud.
You did a great job, we wouldn't love to see all of it. We will to watch it all the way through and leave me and it Was great❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Amazing Effort All Round 👏👏👏😎
Wow this is incredible. Love it 😊
That was really interesting Jemma thank you x
How interesting. I never even knew this existed. It's on my to-do list.
These carts are amazing. I've never seen anything like it. Great job.
Amazing!!! I bet you love doing Wells carnival then with that nice bend at the top of the high street.
It’s one that I really like doing. Not so much when I’m going around but the sense of accomplishment afterward 🤣 I’m not right 🤣🤣

congratulations on your nomination Jemma, and that tip you did in stoke, what a pain !!! I've done loads like that over the years !!

Thank you! It really is! So lucky to grow up around it ☺️☺️
Jemma I like this video watch a few times ❤😊
Absolutely love seeing the behind the scenes of the carnival, be awesome to get more juring 2023 of the building of the cart as well
Glad you liked it! I will try to get some stuff over the next year although how the cart will look is always kept a secret until carnival day 👀☺️
Great video i am a massive fan of carnivals and this haas one of my favourites I have been to everyone and sometimes I see you driving.
It’s been a great season! So many great carts which is definitely what we want to see:) it’s been a good year ☺️

After spending the last 2 weeks driving ours round the circuit, just gone back to work at langdons and ive got the serious blues 🤣

So this is why I saw you filming yourself polishing the Vagabonds sign on the front of your cart in Weston car park! 😂
That was originally for a tiktok but thought I’d pop it in this 😁
you uploading this year?

The new carnival Ben lol
Better than my videos!

It’s our own version of a song called baiana, there are quite a few versions out there. A recent one sampled by nia archives is in the charts now
@@jemmawarren27 Thank you
The best vagabonds have done I think
It was a great one but I would still say viva Brazil in 1999 was our best ever cart. Definitely my favourite ☺️
