Pioneer National Bangkarera 2019: Stories Untold

The word "BANGKA" pertains to the the local motorboats in the Philippines used for livelihood or in this case, sports recreation. Combined with the word "CARERA", which means "RACE EVENT", the event "BANGKARERA" was born. Five years ago, Pioneer Adhesives a local manufacturer of Epoxy-an adhesive used a lot in bangka making started professionalizing and hosting bangkarera events. The rest is history.
This is the official mini documentary of the Pioneer National Bangkarera which was held in the beautiful Naga City Boardwalk in Cebu, Philippines last 2019. It was a treat to write and direct this documentary capturing the annual event. Every year I try to tell the story of the sport and the teams. Last year we got to go in depth with some teams as they explained the struggles and motivations they go through just to be able to travel from all over the Philippines to join Pioneer Bangkarera every year. One thing is clear.. the teams are in it for more than just the prize money.
