- Ukraine has "likely won the battle of Kharkiv", according to think-tank the Institute for the Study of War.
Military analysts say Russia was prevented from encircling Ukraine's second city - and has now given up on attempts to do so.
Since the start of the invasion, capturing it has been a key strategic aim of Russian forces.
"There was no shelling in the city for the last five days," the mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, told the BBC.
"Now it is calm in Kharkiv and people are gradually coming back to the city."

Cos this war indeed happen 8 years ago since me is a Malaysian or the same year, MH17 tragedy happen.
Cos civil war started in Ukraine after the opposition dethroned the govt of Ukraine using riots or how the country splitted since the old govt have alot of supporters or how they won election.
But the worst happen or how rebel borrowed a BUK from Russia since the new govt use airstrike on rebel area.
BUK is a defensive weapon, you cannot shoot other if they not flying or how MH17 tragedy happen.
Russia take back their BUK but Ukraine govt still use airstrike on rebel area or what known as Donbass today.
Russia ignored this war for 8 years since both side were Ukraine people but one day, they cannot tolerate anymore since many seek their help cos airstrike were daily routine and backed by video.
Russian say Ukraine were wrong using airstrike on resident area but they show Putin a middle finger.
When right or wrong cannot stand as conclusion mean win or lose must be used to force out an outcome or how war happen.
Russia win, Ukraine must stop using airstrike on resident area and accept Donbass independent.
Inshort, what happen in Ukraine today till bombed like living hell cos Ukraine should not disturb a sleeping tiger or that indeed the consequences since everyone aware on military aspect, Ukraine no match compared to Russia.
Inshort, if Russia have interest in Ukraine, this war should happen 8 years ago, not today.
And why not, you convince everyone here, Russia attack Ukraine mean they were wrong?

They’re already there, the M777 was involved in the pontoon bridge ambush where 70 vehicles were taken out. You can also see western arms in the bbc report, specifically the various rifles. It seems some groups have changed over from the AK to M4 or other arms supplied by countries.
Those arms are the reason Ukraine hasn't fallen yet😂

It sounds as though finally a positive achievement for one of its major cities, let's hope it IS a withdrawal rather than reload or reset for return. And the shift in fight will concern me. The potential shift in fight, combined with better weather are indeed things which should not be ruled out. Until now, Russia hasn't turned Kyiv nor Kharkiv into Dresden for example. They have clearly underestimated the psychological factor, but who could have known a few months ago that NATO wasn't dead after all (as the French president seemed to suggest) and that the West would make the fist it didn't in 2014. Military calculations widely used are that for every KIA there will be 3 wounded,so that's at the lower end(300 KIA,900 wounded) a1200 out of the fight every day.

They withdrew from Kyiv and freed up a bunch of Ukrainian troops right before attempting a breakthrough out of Izyum? And now they're doing the same in Kharkiv while they're struggling to encircle Severodonetsk from the north, and have a southern spearhead out of Popasna that's already getting bogged down? You want to conduct pinning attacks *while an encirclement is occurring*, because the encircling forces are extremely vulnerable to counterattack.
And despite your suggestion to the contrary, Ukrainian forces have been redeployed to help the east. Forces from Kyiv were used to clear out Kharkiv, and now forces from both cities are set up on the western flank of the Izyum salient within artillery range of the Belgorod-Izyum supply line. That's Russia's biggest concentration of troops on the entire Donbas front. Russia has already had to redeploy forces slated for the offensive to prevent Izyum from being encircled outright. So you're saying that they purposely compromised the logistical security of their primary breakthrough group and diluted their force concentration at the least opportune moment? It's actually less embarrassing for Russia to attribute this to enemy action than to deliberate planning.
