I've been having the popping issue off and on for about eight months, and I just saw an oral surgeon today who diagnosed TMJ Disk Displacement with reduction and was a little confused after I left. Thank goodness I found your illustrations and video. I'm no longer confused, and I really appreciate your very simple, basic explanation! Thank you!

When the click happens when opening, I believe that is your joint going into the right place. I'd recommend opening your mouth slowly then after hearing the click/popping sound close your mouth down slowly letting your jaw relax and see if your top palate is narrow. I believe this is a big cause for TMJ its all to do with your palate/bite.

I've just came across you had jaw surgery and with me dealing with the exact same issue I'd love to talk to you and just see what you've been through. Maybe email or something whenever you're feeling up to it of course. Itd just really help me out! Again hope everything's working for you and you're not in to much pain!!

Thank you so much for this! It's absolutely the best explanation I've seen! Do you have any suggestions for how I might improve a chronic closed lock? I have a 20 year history of clicking (disc displacement with reduction), which progressed to an acute closed lock one year ago, and with months of PT I've been able to increase to 30mm. I honestly don't think my well-intentioned PT understood that the closed lock was a mechanical issue, because he only treated tight muscles (and was kindly dismissive of my suggestion that my disc was displaced). I'm desperate to be able to eat properly and sing again! Thank you for your time.

How to fix anterior disc displacement without reduction?

  • @mdjaffer3286

    Hello Teacher
    I have doubt
In case of disc displacement with reduction when jaw defects to left which side lateral pterygoid cause this movement , is it same side or contralateral lateral pterygoid?

Oct 24,2021. After I got beaten up by my husband and I cried heavily by opening my mouth widely for long hours, Frm then I heard clicking sound and could nt open my mouth widely, only 2 fingers vertically an be placed in my mouth 😑 bt no pain I could able to do all activities eating, talking, smiling, w/o any pain no head aches. Just felt restricted mouth in the morning while brushing, slowly it's flexible bt heard clicking sound every time in a day. I didn't consult dr . Nov 24 2021 Again I got beaten by my husband on my cheeks multiple times heavily again i cried bt nt opening my mouth widely this fime . From this time, my right side cheek got swelled and severe sharp pain while eating even 1 spoon for a week. Continuos head aches on right side brain back to front always, sensation on right side Jaw, cheeks on any activity. Visited Dr this time and came to know that my right side joint (TMJ) is dislocated from its socket thru CBCT and xray scans. Taking care by not reducing using of my jaw like less talking, no hard food, no yawing heavily, nt opening mouth widely etc. One Dr gave tablets and then night guard. Another 2 drs suggested surgery. Please suggest whether dislocated joint (TMJ) will be moved to its original socket naturally ? Please doctor.
