Lots of Wright Bro. history here with more at Carillon Park nearby. Growing up in Kettering and Dayton in the 70's, we would ride our bikes to Oakwood to see how the rich folks lived 🙂 My father was close with the Charles F. Kettering family. I remember being in the Kettering mansion as a young boy with no idea of the historical significance of the property but was in awe of the huge house. Thanks for the trip back to my old stomping grounds.

Enjoying the Wright home as my granddaughter just graduated with her degree in aviation and did a solo flight in school So this fits right in to what her career choice for the future! Very picturesque home and neighborhood. Wouldn't mind living there myself. Glad the city has cherished and maintained. This historic property. Which should be a standard. For all historic properties. Instead of letting them fall into disrepair and knocking them down. Well done!
Recently I’ve begun a deep dive into all things Wright Brothers. Really appreciate the tour of Orville’s home he lived in with his father Bishop Wright and sister Katherine. Really sad Wilbur passed before it was built. Wilbur was the main catalyst in the invention of flying a powered lighter than air machine. Orville was also responsible, innovative, mechanical wizard, risked his life every time he went up in a glider or Flyer. Wilbur too. Theirs is a fascinating story. Thank you Billy and Trey for sharing this special place with us. It’s on my bucket list.

We're very proud of our heritage, contributing to what makes the world connected by air. The brothers have their resting place within sight of the drone at scenic Woodland Cemetary.
I am not a Daytonian, but used to spend summers there since that is where my grandmother lived. I remind next time you are in Dayton to visit the Air Force Museum, and Smiley's Pretzel factory.

Spa Guy this was interesting to see. It never occurred to me to look into the current state of Hawthorn Hill. I read (well audiobook listened to) David McCullough's Wright Brothers biography which I highly recommend. Is the home open for visitors? Did you just happen to show up when it was closed?
My mom use to clean this house and host events there when NCR owned it. I use to get private tours when she was there. When NVR left they donated it back to the family.

Wouw that house is part of history😀 looks a lot like Graceland, only seems bigger. They were the first to fly, there were a lot of patents fights I read and it cost them a lot of stress. Alo seing planes used in war gave them sadness. According to a study by Tara Staley they both fitted Asperger, people with this syndrome usually have an IQ from 130 and more but have sometimes difficultly with social skills, perhaps that's why they both never married? That also explains why they both did not have a high school diploma or attend college, people with Asperger sometimes get bored easily because they are so smart and therefore easily distracted and also sometimes have one or two 'obsessions' they are excited about and they want to know all about. But that doesn't mean there was no woman in the picture, in this case their sister Katherine who helped them with their aviation quest. I don't like it that psychology boxes people nowadays, but sometimes it helps to understand people and help them, Dan Akroyd is one of my favorite actors and he has Asperger and has been very open about it, but in the past there was not much known about this. I found it a fascinating video. Thank you Spa Guy ❤
I read a book on them. Absolute geniuses. . When they were teenagers they decided to spend a summer building a wrap-around porch on their family home. They did it without any carpentry skills at all. They figured it all out as they went along.
While North Carolina boys were perfecting makin' corn squeezins❤ and playin' basketball 🎉, (pretty darn good at both), our boys were inspiring fellow Buckeyes John Glenn and Neal Armstrong. Call it even. 😊
Now you have a choice I always pick in god we trust. But yrs ago people from Ohio. would get angry at first in flight on NC license plates that are still on many vehicles.

Yes it is open for tours but I think the tours start somewhere else and they are bused over.. We just happened to be there when they were closed..
